  1. I'll give it a go - thanks
  2. Yes I've had a look at the other threads and I've managed to disable the systray icon and the hotkeys. Still doesn't solve the problem on the desktop however...!
  3. Hi, Got a small problem - I've disabled the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver from the systray (using startupCPL) and I've disabled hotkeys, but I've realised that the students can still right-click on the desktop and select Graphics Options and Graphics Properties. As you can imagine, they LOVE setting the resolution so high that the monitors cave in! Just wondering if anyone has a workaround for this problem (except for disabling right-click!).??? Ta very muchly Alan.
  4. Sounds like your profile might be playing up. I sometimes delete the ntuser.dat file from documents and settings to sort it out.
  5. I hardly ever re-image the office PCs - tend to buy them new ones every few years and get them imaged while they struggle on their old crappy ones. Smooth transition that way.
  6. For all those who support primary schools - how much do you charge per annum? Sounds like its somewhere between the 2-3K mark.
  7. JCollings - point 1) is absolutely spot on. One problem I found was a lack of consistency when it came to new technicians taking over the support.
  8. My old school used to support 9 local primary schools. There were 3 techies at the secondary school who were assigned 3 primary schools each, for 3 hours per school per week. My old school used to do this to finance a 3rd technician and also because it helped towards achieving Technology College status. You have to be careful though - from my own experience the primaries can become too demanding and expect you to rush over when something goes wrong. If you want to go down the primary school route I'd suggest setting some firm groundrules first!
  9. I would agree with the comments regarding PCL5/6 printer issues. Seen this myself a few months ago and turned out I needed a PCL5 driver.
  10. Looks pretty decent, must be worth a shot. Cheers!
  11. Hi, Does anyone know of any free software that can perform Server Health Checks and maybe check group policies and active directory? I'm running a windows Server 2003 network. Ta! I've already tried Spiceworks btw.
  12. Flight Simulator would look ace on one of these bad boys.
  13. Sorted it - Needed to authenticate against our Proxy - DUHHHHHHHH!!!
  14. This is a wierd one and its driving me crackers! I've just created a new ghost image for a Compaq Evo machine in the same way I create images for all my workstations. Part of this involved downloading the latest service packs, shockwave, flash etc. from the internet. However, after the computer joins to the domain it refuses to connect to the internet even though the proxy settings and network settings are correct. Ive checked that the computer is in the right OU and is picking up the right Group Policy so I'm a bit frustrated now! Am I missing something really obvious here? I've tried allsorts, including: Removing IE8 and reinstalling IE7/IE6. Installing firefox and Opera Renaming computer Leaving/re-joining the domain Deleting inactive profiles Uninstalling and reinstalling applications. Any ideas would be appreciated
  15. Sounds like a lot of unneccessary hassle to me!
  16. Pro Evo FTW.
  17. I'm having the same problem - any ideas how to resolve it?
  18. Hi, I'm just wondering whether anyone has a Tandberg Storageloader and can recommend it for me? We backup a lot of data so something similar to this would fit the bill. Does it connect to the backup server via SCSi? Does it work with DPM 2007? I'm looking at the LTO-4 version of this. Cheers! Alan.
  19. Around 1000 kids 600 workstations 1 laptop per staff member 1x NM (me) 1x Part-time technician. Its an absolute joke.
  20. Think I've figured it out now, cheers for the help. I'm new to this sort of thing! EDIT: I've got it set up so I can RDP internally to the Sharepoint Server with the External IP address, but it doesn't seem to work outside of the network... ? I'll figure it out eventually I hope!
  21. The ISA Server already has an External IP. Don't think its possible to give it 2 is it?
  22. Hi, I've got a Sharepoint Server which I need to publish in ISA 2006 to allow Ramesys to RDP and ICMP to it. Before I can do that, I need to assign a static external IP to it. I've been given an external IP by our ISP, but I'm not sure how to assign the Sharepoint Server with the IP. Does that make sense? At present, the Server has 2 Local Area Connections, both with internal IP's. Is it just a case of changing one of these from the internal to external IP address/mask/gateway or am I barking up the wrong tree? Thanks!
  23. I'm also looking at buying the Tandberg StorageLoader LTO-4. Does anyone currently use this hardware and can confirm that its a good piece of kit? ta.
  24. Hi All of the students here have a 'site' in Sharepoint which I have to create manually. Basically, when they log into Sharepoint they can click on 'my site' and access certain things. I am currently having to create these sites 1 at a time! Any ideas on how to bulk import these sites? Sorry if this doesn't make sense, I'm new to Sharepoint.
  25. My Bootable Hiren's USB Stick - Bailed me out a million times!
