Hi, Bit of a strange one. I recently migrated my SIMS/FMS data to a faster, more reliable Server. As part of the migration I upgraded to SQL 2008. Since the migration, some computers are taking up to 5 minutes to log into SIMS.net but once they are logged in everything seems to be as normal. SIMSLOAD is taking forever to load it seems. However, on some computers it goes into SIMS.net really quick?! This isn't down to the performance of each individual computer as I've seen SIMS.net load pretty fast on the slower computers and slow on the faster ones. Any ideas? Sqlservr.exe is using 1,493,696 K of memory and hardly any of the CPU in the new Server (which has 10Gb RAM). Ta. ps, if I do a completley fresh install of SIMSInfrastructure and SIMSInst it seems to work fine. Really don't want to go round every school computer and do this though!

Please don't turn Edugeek into Experts Exchange. Keep the banter. It helps to raise a smile after a day of trying to resolve stupid SIMS problems!

Having worked alongside 4 female techs and 4 male techs in various different schools, I can also honestly say that the girls come out on top.

I thought it was really disappointing to be honest. I was execting it to be a lot funnier.

I actually once had an interview for Mi5 but didn't pass the exam. Gutted. I could have been a fat ginger James Bond.

Hi all new Network Managers! Quick question: in your role as NM, are you expected to manage and maintain the Telephone System? I'm curious because it has been written into my job description, although I have no existing knowledge of the system. I've been given £12K to spend on a completely new system, so I'm a bit nervous of buying into the wrong system! I just didn't realise this would fall under my remit! Alan.

What type of PCI slot are you putting it into? PCI Express? -
They are wanting to enable sharing of their own. Thanks, I remember doing this myself now a while ago. I'd prefer them to do it through Outlook 2007, but that would be too scary and confusing for them apparently! Cheers.

Hi, Does anyone know whether its possible to share staff calendars in OWA 2007? I know its possible by using Outlook 2007, but some teachers insist on using the OWA version through the VLE. Many thanks.

When you say your Ghost Server died, do you mean that the Hard Disk with the images on died? Were they not on a 2nd partition or backed up anywhere?

Hi Does anyone currently map a https address as a network drive? I know it is possible (something to do with WebDav and stunnel?) but I can't seem to get it working!! I basically want to map student Sharepoint documents at logon, rather than them having to log into the VLE and manually uploading their work. I understand that Salamandersoft has a way of doing this, but I want to see if there is another solution to this. Cheers. Alan.

Hi, Bit of a strange one this. We want to allow students to save their work directly into their own Sharepoint 'Site'. At present, they have to save to a home folder and then manually import these documents into Sharepoint - essentially this means that the students have 2 seperate areas where they save work, which isn't very sensible! When I, for example, create a word document - I can go to File > Save as > My Sharepoint Sites > voila! it works. When the students log in, they don't get this option. Is this something I have to change in group policy? I dont want the students to be able to see 'My Network Places' but at present this is the only workaround I can find! Any ideas? Hope this makes sense. Alan EDIT: Just a thought... Is it possible to map Sharepoint sites as network drives???

Cheers. I'll give it a go. Main problem is that the HDD is quite small so I can't really afford to create a storage pool.

Hi I am about to attach a LTO-4 tape autoloader to my Backup Server which runs DPM 2007. I was just wondering - if I was to perform backups straight to tape would it still want me to create a storage pool? Hope this makes sense. Alan.

I'm guessing it is somewhere in the future now...
