  1. Our carpenters have solved the "wall punch idiot" problem. Any studwork has a layer of Stirling board under the plasterboard. They now only do it once...
  2. English law really doesn't like anything "perpetual".
  3. Missing Oxford comma...
  4. Nope. I have it in a lecture theatre here, programmed it to be on yesterday for an exam. Thought "Hmm... bit warm in here" had mad panic looking for exam laptops that hadn't appeared. Got back to LT - 26 and rising. Hmmm... System claims it's on, but no cooling, just dragging hot air in from flat roof. Right, turn OFF. Noope - just keeps on truckin. Bggr - up on roof, and hit E stop. Proper man being summoned to fix it. Not the first time it has done this.
  5. Just for completeness, and outside the scope of the OP's enquiry. Pins 4&5 were "not defined" in the USITT standard. Sure, they are used for a second universe, but if you are doing that make sure all splitters/patches/etc are carefully considered.
  6. 2029? I can hold out until then... Should be on my way out before that!
  7. Once you find your dimmers, you could ask for advice over here in the Blue Room. Lots of knowledgeable folk all over the country; maybe even Canvey...
  8. In a previous thread, I was astonished to learn that the cabs have a 60A supply. I doubt the equipment draws that much, but that's a lot of panels to get even close!
  9. The DMX outlets on the bars are for "intelligent" lanterns (moving) or LED fixtures. None of the lanterns in your photo of the hall are this type, so there must be dimmers somewhere...
  10. Whereabouts are you? There may be someone local that could lend you a desk for a bit of fault-finding.
  11. The exchange might, but every link in the chain? ALL the little green boxes? Parents' modems?
  12. Won't last a day. It would have done in the days of twisted copper and humongous batteries, but with VOIP? Phones dead in an instant. For real excitement, consider a boarding school...
  13. Which end is that? If it were me, I'd take the controller to the "stage" and plug it into the first dimmer/light bypassing all installed cables and see what happens. Someone needs to work out what is going on, as the left socket is possibly an input the "lights" but the unplugged lead* should be connected to the plug. DMX should (in simple systems) be linear, with no T or Y junctions. To even guess as to what sort of controller would be suitable, we're going to need to know a LOT more about what you have, what you stage, and skill level of operators! *Needs fixing!
  14. I can see our AI asking their AI a question, and getting into a real muddle with plausible, but wrong answers... It could, but easier to dump it, along with all that heat. Isn't someone in trouble for running multiple unauthorized gas-turbines at a data centre already?
  15. Saw this little gem yesterday...
  16. For secondary / 6th form - forget paperless for now. Exams are still hand written - the kids still need to be able to write. It isn't going to change any time soon. I do know that some boards are trying it... Years ago we started sending revision materials home on DVD, then via a link. The kids just didn't do it. We've gone back to paper (MUCH paper) and they do do it.
  17. River Avon = River River Torpenhow = Hill Hill Hill You can just imagine it:- Legionary - (in Latin, obvs) "Oi! Yonder peasant! What's that called? Peasant - "Avon" (soto voce - Cretinous Roman)
  18. Scunthorpe has another hidden meaning in it... That said, I do enjoy the fact that our placenames "mean something"
  19. No more elephants doing elephant things...
  20. I read that someone is planning to shut down the United States Weather Service anyway, as you can get a weather forecast on your phone these days...
  21. All shiny and new... Thanks for the work!
  22. I may have told this tale already... I was having lunch in a boarding house, with a table of 15/16 year old kids. A very dour, taciturn boy on my left. Child on right says something about chicken legs, and dour boy and I proceeded, with no prior communication, to persuade the table that KFC were investing $millions into genetic research aimed at four legged chickens.
  23. Clickview also has the benefit that your teacher can ask for that programme that was on LAST NIGHT and you can still, legally, get it!
  24. Well, them aliens did something to me, but I can't remember what? Is that perhaps why you keep walking in circles?
