Plays video fine on my PC and the MAC we have in the office!

Unfortunatly not mate, i just tried changing the password does nothing until you turn airplay off then back on thenit asks for the new password. Devices already connected with old password continue to show their screen.

OK so had it connected for half an hour, didnt log me out or prompt for the password. Turned airplay off and back on and didn't ask for the password again from my iphone 4s. Hope this helps

Hive just phoned me up after registering for the free bonjour gateway and they supply AP's and such and hopefully can give me a hand getting the gateway to work in our school. Driftingashore - Im on the free trial at the moment but i just set a password to test for you and if you turn airplay off on the device then back on it doesnt ask for the password again, only the first time. I did it all within minutes though so im not sure if theres a time limit. Ill leave it logged in for awhile to test for you. Will keep you updated.

Thanks You had any problems with the audio with airplayserver? Sometimes it works, othertimes it doesn't no matter what device is connected. Can't even get Reflector to launch when airplay is turned on Tried installing Hive Gateway, can deploy it and ping it but the hive manager isnt picking it up

Again the only thing im thinking of is that we have an admin wifi and a student wifi, if students want to show their screen to the board as well as teachers, we cant have the teachers on admin and students on the student wifi as airplay button doesn't show (just tried it) Also if you push your device to a computer connected to an interactive whiteboard, would you be able to control the app from the whiteboard? I dont think that's possible, but would be really cool if you could!

ooooo i think the wireless card might be the way forward then! USB dongle or PCI Card? We have slim cases so would need a low profile wireless card, USB dongle would be better suited i expect if it does the trick

OK so i put the MAC Mini onto our wireless (same SSID as server) and now it works This means every PC that needs to use it would need to go wireless dispite going on the same network? I don't think thats going to be an option Any way round this or would we need to buy wireless cards for every machine? Could you fit the wireless card, connect it to the ssd (same VLAN) and still keep the ethernet cable to the network (2 ip addresses on one machine)?

I do have bonjour print services installed. Will the icon only appear once it detects an airplay server? Our pc's are on a different VLAN to our wireless, im guessing we need to therefore host the server on a wireless device or get a wireless card? Subnet masks are the same on iphone and pc with server running.

The issue for me at the moment is i cant find an airplay icon on ipad or iphone by double tapping the home button?

Can someone explain how to use / setup 'airserver'? We were going to go down the route of apple tv but this sounds better! Just looking for the icon on ipad / iphone i cant find the 'airtime' logo

We purchased a MAC Mini in the end and used Apple Configurator which has worked well for deploying apps and preparing the ipads / naming them / inserting wifi settings / setting restrictions etc The only thing its lacking is the ability to deploy ibooks which is a real pain. US have the ability to buy books on the VPP but we don't yet in the UK I phoned Apple and they said only 5 devices can use the same apple ID so if you have gone down the route of setting up multiple ipads with the same account you may have done so against the terms and conditions of itunes. Don't worry if you have, we did this at first then had to change it...they don't make it very clear online! You need: - A MAC Device (MAC Mini, iMAC, MACBOOK) - Sign up for a VPP license for your school - School Credit Card Its very simple to use once you get the hang of it. We started getting ipads through the door quickly as the new head loves them, we created multiple Apple ID's, and bought multiple app store vouchers but it was a nightmare and using the configurator and VPP is so much easier! I'd strongly suggest bidding for a MAC mini and a HDMI monitor (cheapest option) so that you can setup multiple ipads the same across the school without doing tonnes of manual work. We tried meraki without much success, they did send me a guide for education deployment the other day but the service is blocked by our council and is an ongoing battle so went down the MAC route and no regrets. I know very little about MAC's too so you don't need to have much knowledge to use it. We can only prepare 2 ipads at a time because the MAC mini only has 4 USB ports (2 used for keyboard and mouse) but we will buy a HUB at some point to connect more up. Importing a spreadsheet of VPP codes is very easy indeed, buy the apps from the educational store, they send you a spreadhseet of codes, download the app on itunes on the MAC, add the app to configurator and then it comes up with a warning saying its a paid app then a buttom appears to import the spreadsheet. Put it on a USB, import it to configurator and it will then allow however many codes you bought to be distributed. You must buy one more than you need so that you can download a copy in itunes on the server to get it into configurator. So if you have 20 ipads that need an app, you must purchase 21 i believe. Yeah, thats always going to be the problem, there is no easy solution and terms & Conditions for both apple and amazon seem quite sketchy on this issue

OK now its been suggested to use Kindle App and Kindle books in the same way, might be easier as it syncs to all devices that have the same account but i don't know if there are any complications with this!

Excellent. So if codes have already been used, when the backup is applied to the others will it reasign them? Does it work in the same way as preparing but with a backed up image?

Good Point. That could work but apple configurator has already used codes for paid apps we if we were to re image them from a backup, would that screw things up? I agree, although its half way there, its not good enough for educational use yet.

We have managed to find a work around! As we had the google drive app installed on the iPads and we use it in the school, we downloaded the free iBook on the mac, dropped it into google drive, logged into google drive on the iPads and opened the iBook file up, it then asks what you want to open it with, select iBooks and it imports it in Means doing it one by one but it works and with only 16 currently it's manageable for now until the VPP iBooks are sorted! Also means no fiddling around with iTunes or iTunes accounts on the iPads!

This is such a pain!!! Thank-you for confirming this. I was starting to think Apple wasn't too bad to work with once we got apps working on a mass scale but i'm back to square one looking into doing something i was avoiding in the first place. Could we create 1 itunes account and download the books onto each ipad using that ID? Obviously only for free books at the moment and at the moment we only have 16 ipads that need them so its not as bad as it could be yet.

Ok so we msanaged to sort it but now they have come back to us and said they need ibooks. 1) I cant find books on the VPP program in the UK, only in the US 2) You can't allocate them out through Apple Configurator :(

I have given them an account to logon and buy apps from the Education Store themselves and they seem happier about the idea. Fingers crossed!!

My school are not happy to put a credit card on file for the volume license after doing all this, you cant use itunes gift cards to purchase apps through the volume license agreement so what do we do now? haha

We have the MAC Mini, a volume license and apple configurator. Profiles have gone onto an ipad ok, but we are having trouble working out how to add apps in the correct manor. We download them in itunes store, no worries but it asks for an apple ID that isnt the facilitator or designated owner of the VPP. Do we create a new itunes account just for use for downloading apps on the MAC Server? When purchasing apps on our volume license do we then need to use one of the codes for the itunes account on the MACServer to get the app into apple configurator then import the rest of the codes in a spreadsheet to deploy through configurator?

Hi, Anyone else managed to solve this one? At the moment i have run the following command to make a GAL based on company field, bulk select mailboxes and type the company name in (school name) New-GlobalAddressList -Name "MCA_GAL" -IncludedRecipients MailboxUsers -ConditionalCompany [sCHOOL NAME] This created a GAL based on all mailboxes with our school name entered in them. The problem is you then have to add the school name to the company name field everytime you setup a new mailbox. Also you can't add a company field in a distribution group, therefore you cant have groups in a GAL either? Is there still no way of setting a default address book in outlook 2010 via GPO for all users to another list other than a Global Address List? The reason we have to do this is because our exchange is part of the academy forest and includes every email of every academy in the default global address list, thereofore we have created a custom one

Sorry i meant startup script. I have sorted this now, had to run msiexec /a "AcroRead.msi" /p "[update name].msp with the 11.0.01 patch before it would allow me to run the command successfuly on the 11.0.02.msp. Effectively this upgraded ArcoRader to version 11.0.01 then to 11.0.02 but both had to be applied in order. You can't just patch the .msi it comes with straight to 11.0.02. Might be helpful for others to note. Changes were made to the AcroReader.msi and it now stands at version 11.0.02, added to a group policy and deployed successfully. Thanks for your help
