  1. Why on earth is all of the bloat in 'Enterprise' - it should be rubbish free! I'm going to muck around with some W10 images over half term but sorry I can't actually do anything other than feel for you on this issue. Does the user do it on LTSB with no GP applied?
  2. I'm not sure on this one but does the address resolve externally and does the PTR record exist for the address and point to the correct IP?
  3. I would bet money that the bottleneck will be storage here - what is the storage backend that the databases are sitting on? Ideally you want the databases on a separate set of spindles with their own LUN/Datastore to get the best performance. We had to deal with it running from shared datastores in my last place and performance could (with reports and logging in) be absolutely awful. Up the vCPU to 4 if possible (but remember licensing implications) and make sure you have at least 8GB of RAM assigned preferably 12-16 and make sure SQL server is capped 2GB below the allocation to prevent it swallowing all of the RAM.

    NovaT4

My previous school moved to NT6 probably around 2011-2012 as well, NT4 was retired before then and probably shouldn't have been used back then let alone today Tread with caution friend, it sounds like a recipe for wasted time or botched imports. That said, I could never understand NT6 on the rare occasion I opened it up to look inside it.
  5. Using OPSoftware's OPSmartDesk here, it works quite well but it is slightly annoying in some of it's features and usability is a little lacking in some places but on the whole it does a good job.
  6. Is your server on a non public tLD like .local?
  7. Icinga for up/down and resource utilisation, Cacti for network graphing Both are still a wip here, but worth the work
  8. It is starting to improve but it really isn't brilliant at the moment and the QA process on their releases of late has been shockingly awful - almost as bad as the time frame between knowing of the issue and releasing a fix for it. That said, I'm sure Mic will pick up on this soon and see if he can action this. I just hope their hiring of extra staff and so on makes a difference, because if not we may be waving bye bye to Impero at the end of our current license term.
  9. If you expand the search by choosing additional columns you can, and it would expose any service accounts etc you have. tbf I didn't read this thread properly before and neglected to see that this is about the run box for some reason I thought it was just browsing file shares. I wouldn't want my lot having access to run either, just gives them another vector to do something untoward (that we, don't know of yet)
  10. I feel for the staff, but the company itself and it's manglement I do not feel for... utter rip off pain in the backside company to deal with (from my previous experiences a few years ago)
  11. I have incoming mail off on our helpdesk for this reason, otherwise it gets CC'd in to all kinds of crap and then you have a hundred jobs open about something that only needed one job. We moderate our all staff lists as well so nobody can send messages advertising a washing machine for sale etc
  12. Ahh yeah if the datastore is full then defo get on it soon as possible. Snapshot disks can bust the defined size of the VHD so can eat all of the space on that datastore Or bad things will happen™
  13. Ooohh I managed to leave a snapshot running on SIMS on ESXi once... that took a looooong time to merge and almost failed Defo shut down over half term and see what happens (I know this is Hyper-V)
  14. Any filtering appliances that could have gone awry? Have you got Outlook set to cache at least a month, I had problems with Outlook while it was set to live... any blip in internet connectivity gave it the right hump
  15. Working alright here, what's happened?
  16. It's a pain but if file permissions are set correctly is it going to pose much of a security issue?
  17. In the registry, do you have SIDs hiding in the profile list that are pointing to directories in C:\Users that no longer exist? HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
  18. Excellent! Has anybody here made it on to classroom preview? I want!
  19. Sounds to me as if the replication was not working correctly before it failed, chances are you were making changes to the policy on the dead DC and the changes did not replicate to the good DC. Unless I am misunderstanding what is going on here, have you actually lost the settings in the GPO, the GPO itself or the admx definitions?
  20. Then I suggest you get an old box with a few NIC cards in it, install smoothwall express or pfsense etc and configure that as your gateway. It will handle failover a lot better than your current setup.
  21. How many DC's do you have, are they replicating correctly? Anything in the event logs?
  22. Oh mate I feel for you! I don't know what they recommend these days but we moved Solus3 on to it's own box (or box doing other updatey/utility things) due to how much of an absolute resource hog it was. I hope it's come on since I last used it as it was a right pain in the backside. I would look to go to latest release on S2 and then get S3 up and running for Summer release but certainly speak to SIMS support to assess where you are in terms of releases and make sure you have everything you need. S2 might need reconfiguring if it was LEA supported before glhf
  23. I'd start with looking at your DSL stats specifically attenuation and snrm to see what is going on. If you're a big distance from the exchange then you may well find your upload speed could be better than download
  24. There's a lot of conflicting information now... my MS provider has quoted me for two seperate items WinRmtDsktpSrvcsCAL ALNG LicSAPk OLV NL 1Y Acdmc Stdnt UsrCAL WinRmtDsktpSrvcsCAL ALNG LicSAPk OLV E 1Y Acdmc AP UsrCAL However I also, have just added licenses to our server by inputting our agreement number and selecting an appropriate number of licenses. How come Phoenix have said it's legit without paying?
  25. I wouldn't like to be in your position! If I were you give SIMS a shout and make sure you have an upgrade path. I've been out of the SIMS game for a couple of years but when I left it was a SOLUS3 job
