I am on the lookout for a very cheap laptop for my missus, currently she has An Acer Aspire One Happy... it's not happy and she's not happy it's a garbage machine... As slow as anything and you can't upgrade the damn thing! She regrets buying it actually so looking for something cheap n cheerful for her if anyone has anything kicking about... Ta.

I'm a big fan of the VAIO, I have one and it's a really good stable,reliable machine - I also recommend them to people if they need a new laptop... all I hear is good things about them.. UNtil someone bought one with Windows 8.1 on it of course.

PFsense basically is built on PFTables.. from BSD. One of the most stable secure firewall platforms, configured correctly you'd be very secure. PF: Tables

Yeah, needs a lot of space.. the Postgresql DB needs 12 gig alone, then the repos take up a hell of a lot of space... but once you have it working it's great. The paid for alternative if you run actual RedHat is... Red Hat | Red Hat Satellite But Spacewalk is exactly the same product, open sourced.

Hi All, For those of you who run many Linux servers be it RedHat based or Debian or any other really... check out Spacewalk!! Spacewalk: Free & Open Source Linux Systems Management Brilliant piece of kit, I have built my server and have just updated all my Linux servers / machines in one go... faster too as I'm pulling my updates from a spacewalk local repo. Good package management too .. you can add/remove packages from Linux - and even build full machines straight from spacewalk using Cobbler, using the packages you select. If you only have a small server base I guess it'd be a bit of overkill but I have at least 10-15 servers so I find it much easier scheduling updates via this than using each server or using crons directly on the server itself. Check it out.

It's a shame Libreoffice in browser is in Developer.... I couldn't get it working correctly.

Could I make one global Goole Account and just let everyone sign into that account and use the apps ? Theres only 10 of us this is why we have looked at restructuring the Network.

Google Apps would be great.. is it free and how would users use it... Would they need to create a google account ? Office 365 will be out of the picture as we are trying to ditch everything MS and go open source.

Hi all, We are trying to move over to Linux, we have got the clients built using Spacewalk (Spacewalk: Free & Open Source Linux Systems Management) and we can manage all the systems remotely.. However... a big stumbling block... Office! The way the machines are built means they auto login to a Firefox session that is in kiosk mode, this is mainly because everything we do is web based and this is the way the company wants to go... everything web based. We have been testing how it would work and it seems to be going well it's just the issue of using some sort of web based office suite. Does anyone know of a web based office suite OR a way in which I could run LibreOffice (or similar) in a web browser... OR at a push a terminal services version of Office on Linux. The version of Linux Im running is Fedora. Any Ideas welcome!! Thanks Chris.

This can be done.... We bought 4x IBM X3455 servers off of ebay for about £100 each for a lab environment, 12 gig RAM - 664Bit Quad cores etc... 2x Running VMWare 5.5. free and 2x running KVM. Data backs off to a network share.

It's a proven fact that pfsense, is almost unbreakable to hackers not 100% but then no firewall is... there are videos on Defcon showing how good pfsense really is. I use it on a major ISP network for VPN and Firewall and never had a compromise yet. Running steadily for 2 years +. I've also implemented it at Cafe's etc for wifi connectivity using captive portal. Brilliant free piece of awesomeness. - it's build on BSD too so it's definitely solid!

Well I think I'd be wasting my time in giving you my opinion - Since I run pfsense all over my network in different buildings, on point to points etc .. .I think you'd know what I'd choose !!

ok did you do a physical to ESXI server ?? When you get to destination.. set all your drives as Thin Provisioned

Why not just use VMWare converter and convert your physical machine to a Virtual on ESXI ?
