I bought 4 homeplugs, 2 pairs cost me £28 .. from currys online ebay store, I use these along with my cheap knackered thomson / zyxel router. Have you tried changing the wireless channel on your router ?

Yeah theres all sorts of settings to do with VCI settings etc, however it's not just those settings you need to make a non KC router work, they add whatever they add to the firmware for authentication etc - the network they use is really old and hasn't been upgraded, even the fiber network... it's just replaced cable from copper to fiber they havent put any new kit in or upgraded anything it's just all ... old. So this is why they load custom firmware.... so that routers work on their network properly. It's a PITA. - You can get some routers to work perfect, Draytkes work as do technicolor tg670's.

Yep Yuppet here, with Cobbler. We use it for server deployment mainly but can also be used for PC clients too.

Tried that one a while back on one of KC's business connections.... it didnt go too well !!. It's the way the the modem authenticates over the network, It's PPPoA but not done at their end in the traditional sense of a standard PAP/CHAP handshake as you need other settings to be absolutely correct before it will connect, there's other factors too. Cheers though.

Its the actual modems were the compatability issues are, the wont support anything other than the routers they supply... even asking about a 3rd party one is a no go you will not get an answer, if you go into Currys or PC World here you actually get told 'dont buy our routers if your a KC residential customer as they wont work properly' It's that bad!

Id like to know the price of the Drayteks too... well @mac_shinobi.. .. depends whether the draytek 120 works with a KC connection!! - Netgears have a major problem with KC.

I could get a replacement from my ISP, but they load customised firmware onto every box, as they don't use standard ADSL settings - so you can't just go to currys or what not and buy a standard wireless ADSL router, as it may not work!!

Try both modes! One of them should work... not played with bridge mode via wireless before!

You may have to do DHCP Relay on one of your routers so that both routers don't end up doling out IP's... On your bridged mode router you will need to set it's gateway I'd of thought to your sky router... but this is purely guessing as I've never done it .. and yes I'm of the same idea, you can connect via a Cross-Over cable or bridged mode.

Hi all, Why Can I not find a decent router for home use ? My Technicolor TG582 provided by my ISP, has, for want of a better word... Fried! I've been trying to sort out a new router (not that I can afford to buy a brand new one right now). I'm on an ADSL2+ connection. The way I have it setup now is I have a Thomson Speedtouch 516 (single port) in bridged mode, with a Zyxel something-or-other Wireless router. The Thomson, serves a basic purpose, useless if you need wireless, or any port forwarding etc as it's locked to ISP firmware and have tried to re-flash 2 of these boxes and both times failed with Thomsons own firmware. I'm now on my third, port forwarding is almost none existant - you can only open ports it already has ... IE if you have a web server on port 80, fine it'll work but my CCTV is on port 3380. You cannot add this port to it's list it just fails, and if you try and edit the ports of another service it fails and reboots. Anyway, So the Zyxel, setup in PPTP mode to do the authentication on the Thomson, Any setting you commit - the router reboots. Any setting you commit will not be set/enabled after a reboot so you have to do it twice, then when it reboots the settings will be there. WPA2, if you put a '.' (that's a dot) in your WPA2 key.. nothing will connect... remove the dot and everything is A-OK! Another thing with the ZyXel is, the PPTP (PPPoA) is very basic, Username, Password and PPTP Server Address only configurable - struggled like hell to get a static IP configured on the WAN Interface, once this is configured - every 24 hours or so, according to the logs the PPTP connection gets dropped and doesn't come back up, a reboot brings up the link. Router has been factory reset about a dozen times!!! Because of port forwarding not working on the thomson properly, even though I'm routing through the ZyXel the thomson is only in half bridge mode so ideally I need to forward all ports to the ZyXel... you'd think this is a simple task!! Nope. Will only forward the ports it wants to forward. So no access to alarm or CCTV over the internet, and my VPN wont connect either! It's a shame DD-WRT wont work with ZyXel routers, Even if I ran pfsense I'd have to run it in bridge mode but at least I now my connection wont drop every 24hours and it would be stable - and Wifi I could at least captive portal securely! I wish I could afford something that would run pfsense!! And breath lol... I cannot wait to get FTTH. I can use ANY router I like then!

Have you tried doing iot manually, set your TP-Link and Sky router up on the same Wireless network, Same SSID, Same passcode, Same Frequency... See if that works. Admittedly - I've never done this before for wifi.

Uninstall VMWare tools... if it's installed. Vmdk2Vhd is a simple utility to convert virtual hard drive images from VMWare's VMDK format into the Microsoft's VHD format. This is a sector by sector copy operation from one format to the other and the source file remains unaltered.

We are migrating over to thin clients here - slowly.... LTSP on Fedora 20 & CentOS. Main reason is we cannot afford the extra licensing from MS just yet. So Linux Thin Clients for us is a viable option. Most of what we do is web based anyway with online portals etc so all that is needed to the client is a Web Client (Chrome or Firefox). All we do is change the VLAN on the network port. boots from PXE into Fedora, login with Windows Credentials and viola. You're at the desktop, which has shortcuts to shares.

Hi all, openSUSE.org I'm usually a big fan of Fedora, but I've gotten a bit bored of it lately so decided to go to something different that I haven't used in a long time. I've chosen OpenSuse. I have installed it on my Vaio, I'm quite impressed with the latest KDE... It's fast! More so than Fedora or Ubuntu. Installing things is no hassle through Yast, not had any dependency issues etc. Everything is 'just' working straight out of the box! But I'm amazed by it's speed, with have all effects turned on too! A breeze to install which is always good, my battery seems to be lasting anywhere between 2 and 3 hours. On Windows 7 Ultimate with full screen brightness my battery lasted about 30-45 minutes. Looks like I'll be staying with Suse for a little while longer, not sure I was going to like it but it's been spot on so far!

Generally, RM will come and build the server for you and the only VMWare image I know about is one that RM use for training, CC3 will now be End of Life. There may be a CC4 training image but you'll probably have to pay for that and have some sort of contract with RM.

I've always wanted a MAC, one of those nice G5's would suit me fine. Never really had experience of MAC, never had the chance - most people I Know use PC's, either Windows or Linux. I'm running OSX Mavericks on a PC, this is purely for training purposes and works great. However I do like it's stability and ease of use and can definitely see why people go for MAC's. I'm amazed at how fast it is too, it's pretty rapid - 4GB RAM isn't a lot these days either!
