Defo PfSense with openvpn works a treat, and really easy to setup and export the utility so easy install and start at both ends. you could use something like Deltacopy to send the data to/from the servers.

LOL ... yep. Ive just setup disk pass through too so that if A user plugs in a USB-Stick its passed through or redirected to the RDS.

Mangaged to get it working this way: Linux machine is on fedora, installed printer and used the -r flag on rdekstop and used printername. Printer appeared on the 2012 Remote Desktop Session and printing works fine.

ok so how would it work then, the PC / local printer will have nothing to do with the RDS Server at all. But local printing is a must through Linux thin client to Remote Desktop session... If I add print drivers into Print Server Properties then add the logon script will this work do you think ?

OK, how would I do the first option ? Namely in Server 2012 R2 ? The printers wont be on the same network as the RDS server.

A question... I am thinking of running R-Desktop or similar on some linux boxes but in think client mode so it's full screen and runs at bootup.. Typically the RDS server will be one that we have hosted elsewhere. Linux machine will be setup to access the RDS server over the internet via RDP /RDesktop etc... Im thinking about local printers... how would they work ? Could we install the printer locally on the Linux machine and would it pass through to the Remote session ? Thanks

Hi all, Im sure a while ago I saw something on the internet (I think it was made by Dell) A KVM drawer. You could use your own Keyboard, mouse and monitor. The monitor part you would take off the stand and use the 4 Mount holes on the rear to attach it to the mount inside the KVM drawer... as it went back into the rack the monitor fell back and everything fitted snugly into the rack just like a KVM should. For the life of me I cant find anything on the internet about this but I'm sure iv'e seen it!! Anyone shed any light ? Thanks in Advance

Yes I DIY most stuff on my car, 185k miles... and to be honest it hasn't cost me anymore on servicing / repairs than a low mileage car. I service it regular and its due a new clutch which was supposed to be done today but a mess up at the motor factors has scuppered that, it's a diesel I get fantastic mileage out of the 1.9 VAG lump. High mileage doesn't bother me at all.
