  1. @vikpaw - I think I will do that in future, although I don't plan on moving it to another server anytime soon. We ended up with just resetting them all as people discovered they were not working.
  2. I did try a migration out on our test server first, logged in with my own user account and it worked. When we did it on the live server, logged in with my own account and it worked as expected. Given that it worked, I didn't try other staff user accounts, it would have been difficult to do it without knowing their password in any case.
  3. By following the guide release by Capita on SupportNet - Resource 20241. Detached the db from the old server using dbAttach, copied it across to the new server and reattached it using dbAttach.
  4. We migrated our SIMS DB to SQL 2012 last week when we carried out the autumn upgrade, moving to new hardware at the same time. We followed the instructions from Capita as there is no migration utility yet and now a large percentage of people are getting invalid username/password errors. At first, we thought it was the usual forgotten password syndrome, but we've reset close to 100 passwords this morning already. Has anybody else migrated and noticed this behaviour?

    Spiceworks 6.1

Can't say I've had any problems since I upgraded to 6.1, all working perfectly well... What kind of "dire" performance issues are you having? Also, what do you mean by it was forced upon you?
  6. I'm trying to add 2 additional nodes to our Hyper-V cluster (it currently has 2 nodes) and I am running into problems with the iSCSI configuration. The storage is a Dell PowerVault MD3200i and everytime I create multiple connections to storage I end up with the Access LUN appearing in Disk Management within Windows (Disk 4 in the screenshot). As far as I am aware the Access LUN is something to do with in-band management of the SAN. On the 2 nodes currently in production this LUN doesn't appear and I can't work out what I have done differently. I've installed the MPIO feature, configured it and subsequently un-installed/re-installed so many times as I was sure that was the cause of the problem, but I'm still not getting anywhere. Having that LUN appear in Disk Management is causing a problem with Cluster Validation because it is expected to be on the other nodes which it isn't. Anybody know why it's appearing and where I am going wrong?
  7. Shaun, Another couple of questions.... 1) Other than the cost of the firewall, is there any other costs associated with moving to Option 2? 2) Do you (and can you) still use the LGfL assigned IP range? Cheers Adam.
  8. Shaun, Which model of Palo Alto firewall have you got? Cheers Adam.
  9. After deleting all the profiles on the machine, no S-1-5-21 folders existed other than the administrator. Logging back in produces the same problem.
  10. We are starting to see a problem with selected students where their home drive will map but the location is unavailable. The exact error reported in Windows is: U:\ refers to a location that is unavailable... As a result of this folder redirection also fails with the following logged in eventvwr: Log Name: System Source: Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy Date: 28/09/2012 09:08:11 Event ID: 1085 Task Category: None Level: Warning Keywords: User: CURRICULUM\ey12test2 Computer: RM137-16.curriculum.riddlesdown.local Description: Windows failed to apply the Folder Redirection settings. Folder Redirection settings might have its own log file. Please click on the "More information" link. I've created 2 brand new test accounts, tried to log onto an affected machine for the first time and instantly have the same problem. Permissions are correct for the affected users, we know this because they are able to log on to other machines and access their documents without a problem. Something seems to trigger the problem and then the only way the machine is useable again is if we re-image it. Profiles are all local, deleting the local profiles of affected users doesn't make a difference. Anybody have any ideas?

  12. As part of our new image we've deployed Smart Notebook 11 to classroom machines. In previous versions the screen capture button would allow staff to capture the screen (I presume like the snipping tool in Windows 7) and then allows you to paste the content. In version 11 this button seems to be greyed out with no visible way to enable it. I've been assured by a member of staff that is worked in version 10 and she used to make a lot of use of it. Anybody seen this or know how to enable it?
  13. If you want to use the enterprise voice features you'll also need the plus cal in addition to standard and enterprise cals
  14. Never seen that error before, but one thing I did notice that you don't have in your installation properities of Setup Windows and ConfigMgr is the FQDN of the management point. I have this in all of mine: SMSMP=SERVER.DOMAIN.LOCAL
  15. I've answered my own question! http://support.capitaes.co.uk/websupport/RenderXSL.aspx?KB=KB111497.xmlFalse
  16. Just wondering how people deal with Year 11 students going forward into Y12? Previously, against better judgement, we've dumped all Y11 students into a temporary tutor group and then moved them out into their respective tutor groups when they enrol for Y12. The main reason is because the staff wanted to get their timetables sorted before they enrol, even though they are not 100% sure they will all come back. This year I don't want that to happen because it's caused discrepencies with data and I'm not sure it's the correct way to do it. Is the correct way, off-roll all Year 11, then only re-admit those who come back (as it will depend on their GCSE results)?
  17. I've just created a TCP port on my laptop, sent a test page to the printer I've been testing the issue with and it printed instantly. I've then sent a test page to the printer (with my laptop as the print server) and again it prints instantly.
  18. Not using IPv6. IPv6 still enabled on the NIC but it has always been like that without any problems until recently.
  19. @DaveP - no other network problems as far as I am aware of or that we are seeing, we already have multiple vlans @m25man - Check the resolution on the printer in my office, it's set to 600dpi which appears to be the factory default. Topology wise the printer and the client (my laptop in this case) are plugged into the same switch (core switch) and the print server is plugged into the switch with the rest of the servers. There is a 3gb fibre trunk between the server switch and core switch - actual distance is no more than 2m. Yes, when I generate a test page on the server to the same printer we still experience a delay. I haven't tried setting up a TCP printer port on my laptop and printing to it directly, but I will. I don't think it's a latency issue on the network as I am not seeing any other problems that might suggest that, nor a printer problem becuase it's happening to more than just one printer, different models aswell! We have Print Manager Plus installed. I've stopped the service for that so I can rule that out as being the cause.
  20. We have approx. 50 network printers and in the last week or so printing to them has become increasing slower to the point where it will take 2-3 minutes from submitting the document before the printer kicks into life. The document I have been testing this with is only 53kb in size. The same thing happens if I generate a test page from the print server itself. I've looked at a number of threads on the technet forums which suggest disabling TCP Chimney Offload, RSS and Autotuning on the print server, I've done this but it's had no effect. There is no firewall between the server and clients, all the clients are Windows 7 Enterprise x64 SP1. We have Antivirus on the server but on-access scanning is disabled. Does anybody have any other suggestions on how to improve the performance?
  21. Have a look here: SCCM Client Push install issue with WMI and RPC - Chris Stauffer at myITForum.com It uses dynamic rpc connections....
  22. Is the firewall enabled on those clients?
  23. $$<05-25-2012 09:05:16.323-60> ---> ERROR: Failed to connect to the \\172.16.16.17\admin$ share using account 'Machine Account' That suggests to me that the machine account for the configmgr server is not part of the local administrators group on the client machine. In configmgr, goto Administration, Site Configuration, Sites. Then on the ribbon, click on Client Installation Settings. What have you got under the Accounts tab?
  24. I've seen 53 on some of my clients, primarly when you push the client to a machine which isn't on. When you start the push, look in the ccm.log and you should start to see lines like this: ---> Connected to administrative share on machine RM075-A using account xxx ---> Attempting to make IPC connection to share <\\RM075-A\IPC$> ---> Searching for SMSClientInstall.* under '\\RM075-A\admin$\' ---> System OS version string "6.1.7601" converted to 6.10 ---> Creating \ VerifyingCopying exsistance of destination directory \\RM075-A\admin$\ccmsetup ---> Copying client files to \\RM075-A\admin$\ccmsetup. ---> Copying file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\bin\I386\MobileClient.tcf" ---> Copying file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\bin\I386\ccmsetup.exe" ---> Created service "ccmsetup" on machine "RM075-A". ---> Started service "ccmsetup" on machine "RM075-A" ---> Deleting SMS Client Install Lock File '\\RM075-A\admin$\SMSClientInstall.RCA' Execute query exec [sp_CP_SetLastErrorCode] 2097152153, 0 ---> Completed request "2097152153", machine name "RM075-A". At this point look in the C:\Windows\ccmsetup directory on the machine where you should have the files required for the install. Do you have those files? If you do and the install still isn't happening, then I think you need to post the ccmsetup.log and client.msi.log files so we can have a look and see what might be going wrong. If you don't have those files, there should be lines in the ccm.log file (on the server) which should point to the problem.
  25. If the install is working but the client is not being picked up in the console that could be down to the Boundaries and Boundary Groups not being configured correctly. What have you got set for your Boundaries and are they added to a Boundary Group? Also what do the ccmsetup and client.msi log files have in them?
