  1. Anything in the exemgr.log file? It's in C:\Windows\CCM\Logs
  2. Has the content been distributed to the distribution point or distribution group? Under the monitoring tab, distribution status, content status - does the application appear there with compliance at 100%?
  3. I've had this on a few applications i've tried to deploy. You can get more information by going to the monitoring tab, select deployments and then find the application that has failed to deploy. Once you select the application, you'll have a coloured circle depending on the status of the deployment and underneath that a link that says View Status. Click that link, then on the error tab it will show the failed deployment which should include an error description is far more helpful than the error codes.
  4. I am trying to migrate 2 collections from my configmgr 2007 r3 environment across to configmgr 2012 and am running into issues. I have previously migrated collections that are at the root of my collection structure in 2007 r3 and now have moved onto collection at lower levels. The collections I am trying to migrate fit into the structure like this: When creating the migration job I select 2 collections I want to migrate, untick the "migrate objects assiocated with the specified collections", choose the default security scope and the next until the end of the wizard. I leave the "transfer the organisational folder structure for objects from configmgr 2007 to the destination side" box ticked and run the job. The jobs runs. I've got a folder for "Riddlesdown Collegiate", a folder for "Desktops", 2 collections (S05-RM035 and S07-RM037) and 2 random clients that are not in the collections I have chosen to migrated. None of the clients that are in those 2 collections appear to have migrated across. All the collections in 2007 r3 are populated using LDAP queries against AD, I have checked that the 2 random clients that have been migrated are not present in the OUs nor the collections. If I migrate a collection that is at the root level, it migrates fine along with the clients in that respective collection. Does anybody have any ideas?
  5. What sort of details do you want on the CSV? Yes, all VMs are connected via 10GB virtual ethernet.
  6. Budget: a possibility The hyper-v setup we are using is clustered and we are using CSVs - the particular CSV the fileserver sits on is 3.64TB in size, 47% free
  7. I am after some suggestions on how we can improve our backup stratergy (mainly around the use of BackupExec), we currently do the following: MS DPM 2010 - backs up to disk: various SQL databases, DC system states, Exchange mailboxes Symantec BE 2010 R3 - backs up to tape: all staff/student files, shared drives, SQL databases, Exchange Mailboxes, DC system states We used to use DPM for quick restores but no longer have available storage to reliably backup student/satff documents, BE is used for daily differentials and end of week/month backups. End of Week backups are kept for 4 weeks before being overwritten, End of month backups are kept indefinetly. Our end of week/month backup totals around 3.5TB and is now taking upwards of 60 hours to run (starting at 7pm on a Friday). I suspect a lot of this is due to moving our main fileserver (which stores student/staff documents) over to a Hyper-V VM - the avg job rate when backing up that server is now 900Mb/min as against 2GB+/min when it was a physical server. We cannot use the Hyper-V plugin for BE as when it comes to restoring data you need the size of the VHD in free space to stage the VHD when restoring from tape. The server has 2 VHDs both around the 900GB mark. We tried to restore a small folder and the job took 12hrs, most of which was staging! I was thinking about disk-to-disk but then I have to make sure I have enough storage to get the sort of retention I am after. I could duplicate that off to tape but wouldn't it just take as long? Is there anybody baking up similar amounts of data? How do you do it in a reasonable timeframe and make restores as pain free as possible?
  8. Does the byte count stop? If so, I've had the same issue. Sorry to say I never got to the bottom of it. I had a case open with Symantec which got all the way to 3rd line support, countless analysing of logs and wireshark captures (over several months!) between remote server and media server didn't reveal what was causing the problem. They suspected either something on the server or some sort of network connectivity breakdown that BE couldn't recover from. We did find a work around that wasn't too much of a problem given the choice between completing the backup or not.... Restart the remote server just before the backup runs and it would complete without stopping. When you get the cancel pending.... you don't have to reboot the server to get past that. Kill the BE services (you also may have to kill the processes), restart them and the job will clear. Once you do that you won't be able to append data to the tape as killing the services means it doesn't write an end maker and you'll get "end marker unreadable" next to the tape.
  9. I've also been experencing this alot since we moved to Windows 7. I've got a case open with Microsoft because I am fed up with re-joining machines to the domain when they loose the trust relationship. They think it's something to do with the way we imaged the machines using SCCM, but i'm not so sure as out of 1000 or so machines not every machine has expererienced the problem (and they were all imaged the same way), they also will just loose the relationship randomly so I don't the issue is being caused by duplicate names (in this instance anyway....) Will update you all if I get anything meaningful...
  10. It's not set on the Documents folder and the Music/Pics/Videos are set to follow it. Plus, it's not happening to every user - I was adding that bit whilst you were typing your reply I think!
  11. On our main fileserver that stores all the pupil documents, we've recently noticed that the My Music, My Pictures and My Videos folders have all lost permissions which means us as administrators and staff can no longer access these 3 folders. It hasn't affected all users and the pupils are still able to access the folders themselves. The folders all have the same date/time stamp which suggests to me that whatever is happen is happening at logon. They are also redirected folders, set to follow the My Documents folder. Clients are Windows 7 SP1, Server is Windows 2008 R2 SP1 My intention is to setup auditing on some folders and audit the sucess and failure of permission changes, but in the meantime has anybody else experience something like this? Cheers Adam.
  12. What is the error SCVMM fails with? I've got to do this next week and if it is failing because of not enough local storage space then i'm going to have the same problem. Looking at this technet article: P2V: Converting Physical Computers to Virtual Machines in VMM it says a snapshot is taken and streamed directly to the host server. Does the source machine have any volumes bigger than 2TB?
  13. This talks about multiple accounts but might have some useful troubleshooting info in it: I moved my PDCE role and accounts started locking out! - Ask the Directory Services Team - Site Home - TechNet Blogs
  14. Also seen that the issue was tracked down to a group policy refresh setting. I have that enabled and have now disabled it to see if it fixes the issue.
  15. Yes, thats where the link in the SupportNet KB goes. It is a broadcom nic...
  16. Nope. A Dell server. In addition to SIMS/FMS the server also has our cashless catering software/db installed on it, would it really be going to sleep?
  17. On our 2 finance machines we are consistantly getting the following error when FMS is left open and not used for somewhere between 10-20 minutes: Read Failure. General SQL Error. [Microsoft] Communication Link failure. It causes a particular problem if in the middle of working on something like a bank rec for example. There is an article on SupportNet but it simply directs you to a Microsoft KB. In this case it talks about disabling the TCP Chimney Offload, which I have done and it's made no difference. I would raise a call with Captia but I suspect they will say goto Microsoft has the KB instructs. Has anybody else seen this problem and if so how did you resolved it? We are using FMS Summer 2011 on Windows 7. Cheers Adam.
  18. Damn! Working by those figures it could take a while for the bigger drives, I've got 3 drives in a R5 array - 1 @ 115GB and 2 @ 875GB. Thats the best part of 36 hours per drive! In terms of network speed - 1GB to the server switch and a 3GB trunk between that and the core. Will an offline conversion be quicker than a online conversion?
  19. I've got to do the same task with a similar amount of data in a few weeks, all be it I plan to do an offline p2v to avoid missing anything. I'd be curious to know how long it takes you as I've been unable to find any info how long it would be expected to take over BITS.
  20. Are the share and NTFS permissions correct on the folder where the background image is stored? I've had SCCM/WDS through errors before (not to do with custom backgrounds) and it came down to a combination of share and NTFS permissions.
  21. Not dealt with them becuase we have just had solar pannels fitted to one of our roofs, but have been getting a large number of e-mails from them. They are now added to the blacklist given they have a connection with NS Optimum whom I share your frustations about!
  22. You don't need to go anywhere near the LGfL site is you want to use USO accounts with Fronter, or at least we don't and never have since we've been using them. We goto http://fronter.com/croydon (in our case) and log straight in with our USO accounts...
  23. This was caused becuause I also had the FMS Autumn BETA on same machine previously. 6.93.236 is the db version for the BETA. Deleting that upgrade script from the setups folder fixed the issue.
  24. Just tetsing out FMS Autumn 2011 on our test server.... Restored a backup of our Summer 2011 db and attached it on the test server. I've run the upgrade, setup files copy across as per normal, dbUpgrade runs and I notice there are 3 upgrade files to run: 6.93.234 to 6.93.235 6.93.235 to 6.93.236 6.93.235 to 6.93.237 It runs sucessfully and then actual FMS application runs, every looks fine. When I try and login, I get the following error: There is a module/db incompatibility Current db version: 6.93.236 Module Requires db version: 6.93.237 The module version: 6.142.237 db requires version: 6.142.236DXi4500 Strange.... I saw the upgrade file to take the db to 6.93.237. I went back into dbUpgrade, pointed it at the upgraded files, logged in and it reports the db version as 6.93.236 and there are no files valid for this db version. Re-installed the FMS application in case something went wrong there, same error. I'm now out of ideas..... I've done nothing different to what I would usually do when testing. Anybody else had any issues?
  25. I probably should have posted to say i'd fixed it..... I guess I forgot! The answer is here: Deploying IE9 with SCCM OSD Task Sequence 4th post from the bottom. I added a step in SCCM to run the following command which fixes the problem. reg.exe DELETE "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components" /v "NoIE4StubProcessing" /f
