GPO to remove these options from explorer window?
ihaveaproblem replied to ihaveaproblem's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Hi, Sorry, but how would I go about doing this? -
How to pin Application Shortcuts to the start menu?
ihaveaproblem replied to Gilleen's topic in Windows 7
The script works nicely, so thanks. Is there a way to remove pinned items after you've set them to pin using this script? Example, I pin IE and Word but then decide I no longer want word pinned. Removing the code to pin word from the script has no effect. Is there a way to make this script so it's first step is to delete all pinned items, then it pins the items you have listed in the script? -
GPO to remove these options from explorer window?
ihaveaproblem replied to ihaveaproblem's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
will give it a go! EDIT Not work Gives an error when trying to add the adm file with that change. Thanks anyways -
Thanks, so do you think setting a rule to prevent helppane.exe from running will stop help? The strange thing is my Winows 7 Enterprise does have winhlp32 in c:\windows (I've not placed it there) and if I double click on it opens the help feature. Anyways i'll try blocking helppane.exe

From my searching there doesnt seem to be a GPO to do this. I can remove the help link from the start menu, however there's still lots of ways to get into help through explorer windows or by pressing F1 for example. I was thinking a software policy to disallow C:\Windows\winhlp32.exe from running would do the job. I've done this and I can still access help. Any ideas? Win 7, Server 2008 R2

Ok I found that it appears in computer config. I can only use this as a computer policy then? Thats a bit rubbish... -
GPO to remove these options from explorer window?
ihaveaproblem replied to ihaveaproblem's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Thanks I copied the text and saved it as a .adm file and placed in %windir%\inf I want it to be a user specific policy so added the template in administrative templates on user config. I cant seem to find this policy to enable though? When you add an admin template is it auto enabled or do I need to find it some where to enable it? -
I attempted this on a HP probook laptop before. Conclusion was the finger print reader was to unrealiable ( Often not detecting finger ) and could take many attempts for a sucessful logon, so it wasnt worth the hassle letting staff use it.
-
You could use this if all you want to do is copy and replace a file e.g. copy /y \\server1\shares\hello.txt C:\windows It will copy the hello.txt from the share to c:\windows on the client machine and replace the file if it already exists. If your using windows server and group policy you can set it as a startup script to push it out to the machines you need to.

Unable to install Sophos 9.7 on windows 7
ihaveaproblem replied to hfnistelrooy's topic in Windows 7
Cant help with the problem. Have you emailed sophos support? In the past for me they've always provided a very good and fast support so it might be worth shooting off an email to them if you havent already. -
Laptop, HP, 6530b. Seems to be happening nearly every time you start the laptops During start up they get to the windows 7 animation and freeze there, or get past the windows 7 animation onto a black screen and then freeze there. Strangely if you boot into safe mode first, then restart the laptops they load perfectly fine... not sure why. Once you log into windows it pops up saying receovered from a serious error and thats the minidump ive attached.
-
sorry for being stupid, but what are these?
-
Thanks Mark, Having this problem with a whole class set of laptops where they get stuck whilst booting up windows7, so hopefuly its not the ram! Was hoping the minidump would tell me a driver was causing it and which^^
-
If one of you dont mind could you possibily look at the minidump file and tell me what the cause is please? I dont currently have the software installed to read it. If no one can no worries and il get the software installed next week. thanks:) 2shared - download 090211-27643-01.dmp ( Couldnt seem to upload the file on edugeek ? )

Start Menu Redirection works but shows additional shortcuts...
ihaveaproblem replied to Sam_Brown's topic in Windows
Do you have the option ticked in your GPO that says something like 'copy existing shortcuts over to the new location'? -

Redirected start menu empty
ihaveaproblem replied to ihaveaproblem's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Yep that was correct. I needed to add the server to the trusted intranet sites and after doing that it stopped the message. You can push out zone sites using the following group policy User config - admin templates - windows components - internet explorer - internet control panel - security page Enable 'Site to Zone assignment' and enter your sites with the correct value So i added, server.domain.local with the value of 1 because that = intranet zone -
Redirected start menu empty
ihaveaproblem replied to ihaveaproblem's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Brilliant ! That did the job. Thanks very much. only thing now is the shortcuts are opening a security window saying ' Do you want to open this file?' and having the option of open or cancel. -

Redirected start menu empty
ihaveaproblem replied to ihaveaproblem's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
All permissions are fine. This has been set up for a long time and was previously working fine. It's only on new windows 7 clients the start menu keeps appearing as empty. Edit Previously running XP and it worked fine. Only since upgrading to Win7 the problem has started.
