Are you reffering to this group policy? Change Start Menu power button In my case this policy is set as 'Shutdown' to display on the start menu and it still sometimes logs off like jamesbrown mentioned instead of shutting down.

Hi - Me again.. Sorry for yet another new thread asking for help. Seems like i've asked for alot the last few days. I'm just a little confused. I've set up my documents redirection as follows. Advanced - Specify locations for various user groups Target - Redirect to the users home directory The redirection works fine. On the client PC if you click your name from the start menu two my documents appear. Is this how it's suppose to work? Seems odd to have two my documents. Bit confused over this.

Same problem here. Not sure why it happens and to be honest i've not looked into it much because of bigger problems. I'm in the proccess of creating a fresh set of group policys because all the currents ones were made with server 2003 and designed for XP. This should fix it is it is something in GP

No problem And thanks very much for the reply. I will take a look at the admx files. Quick question not related to this issue. Do most 'big' software’s have admx files available? I’m still fairly new to this and didn’t realise for instance that adobe had these.

Serial key is entered and the product is activated. It's the prompt asking you to register your product and be signed up for updates and stuff.

Anyone know a way to disable the prompt that asks you to register your software when you launch one of the programs?

Anyone who knows the answer I like the idea of a pre-set value to set the password as, but for security I would like users to be prompted to change the password as they log in otherwise you could end up in the situation where students know each other’s password and start messing around with others account. .

I think I asked this somewhere before (Can’t really remember if I did and certainly don’t remember the answer) How hard/is it possible? Would it be to make this an app for iPhone’s etc.? Personally I think it would be really good if you could use this from your phone because I usually end up in the situation where a student cant log on because someone has left the computer locked, and I’m nowhere close to using a computer of my own to load this application. Most people always carry their phone around, so if you could use this from your phone it would be really awesome and handy. I really have no idea if this is possible or how much work it would involve though

Using scripts here for all drives apart from the user home network area. I tested mapping the drive using GPP on an affected computer but the problem still persisted. I'm also getting a problem where students loose access to the redirected start menu and desktop on some laptops. Again it seems to be computer specific because any student who logs into that computer can’t access the redirect, but if they log into a 'working' computer that’s not affected by this problem the redirect works perfectly fine for them. Again a reimage of the laptop fixes this...Would like to know what’s causing it though if anyone has some suggestions

I copied and pasted the extracted files to C:\windows\PolicyDefinitions and I still cant seem the find the new options. Is there anything else I need to do?

Can anyone help me out with this please. I want to use the templates from here Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Office 2010 Administrative Templates and OCT to set up some policys for MS Office. I've had a search around the internet and only confused myself more. I'm a bit unsure as to where all the files that get extracted need to go to? There's so many.. Thank you. Also there is a 32 and 64bit version. Do I use the 32 bit version since thats what the clients use? Or do I need 64bit since thats the server.

I've had a very similar problem. Win 7 Enterprise 32 bit, Server 2008 R2 It's like this for me 1) Only occured on certain computers ( Laptops and desktops, Completely random ) 2) Effects all student users that log in saying their home mapped drive is not accessible or disconnected. ( If a member of staff logs in they can access their home mapped drive without a problem ) Is rather annoying because as of yet I've not been able to figure the cause of this. Permissions are set correctly because if a student logs onto a different computer they can access their home drive fine, so it has to be a computer specific problem. Only solution I have is to reimage the computer and after that all mine with this problem have been fine. Would be nice to know whats causing this though.

I'm being silly and making more work. The main reason I was looking to find an alternative way of achieving this was because I was hoping to set the policy Per User instead of Per Computer. That doesn’t seem possible, so I can just go back to using the .adm file method that works perfectly for me because I understand how to set it up correctly:whoo: Thanks to all though. The help is much appreciated and it's always nice to know more than one way of achieving a goal (Even if I’m unable to get it working!)

Software restriction did the job Arthur, Not sure why i've got the winhlp32 because machine i'm testing GPO's on is a clean win7 build. Maybe a windows update added it. Anyways it's blocked now so it doesnt really matter! Thanks all=]

Hi, Sure. The name 'Test' is the name of the GPO. I created a new separate policy and named it test whilst i'm testing it. Here's a capture of the policy I'm fairly confident that it's set up correctly after reading the links i've been given. The error I see in event manager is this

Hmm still struggling. I beleive i set the policy correct now but it doesnt seem to be working and I get this error in event viewer Why would access be denied? Also if I try to manualy change this key value to a9400100 I get an error saying 'cannot edit attributes. Error writing the value's new content'

It seems this can only been done per computer basic again then? I guess that will be ok. To add one of these regs using GPP does this seem correct? ( I keep getting confused if I need update/repalce etc )
