Redirected start menu empty
ihaveaproblem replied to ihaveaproblem's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Permissions seem correct. Students have read and execute list folder contents read -
I'm having the problem where a redirected start menu appears empty. Using server 2008 R2 and the clients are Windows 7 + SP1 I've tried some suggestions what others have said such as running a registery fix, ticking move existing contents. Anyone any got any more ideas how to fix it? I beleive the policy is set up correctly. \\server\shared$\start menu Grant user exclusive rights to Start Menu Disabled Move the contents of Start Menu to the new location Disabled Also apply redirection policy to Windows 2000, Windows 2000 server, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 operating systems Enabled Policy Removal Behavior Leave contents

Anyone used any of the services available before and recommend one? Thanks

Anyone know of some FREE software that is quite good at recovering files after a hard drive partion has been formated? cheers EDIT Nevermind I shouldnt of been lazy and searched first. Lots of topics on this, sorry. Feel free to delete.

Thanks both. I'll look at your suggestions. WesternUnion wanted a 30£ fee, so i'd rather not use them.
-
Thanks Steve. Have you any reccomendations on which prepaid to use? Half the website look dodgey for these cards from what i've seen.. Or, is there an alternative method to sending a one off payment ? I know of western union but they charge a nasty % fee, so i was thinking a prepaid card might be best.

Anyone know any prepaid visa cards that can be used with paypal? Im searching now and came across some but worried some might be a little 'dodgey' thanks as always.

Thanks both. 5gb sounds tiny to me then. He's limited to either Sky or BT so I will see what deals they are offering.

Hi, I have a question about internet usage. My brother has recently moved house and looking for an internet provider. On some of the packages they have 5gb, 10 gb monthly usage allowances. He's been asking me how much he can get done with this, but i'm a bit unsure. Is it as simple as if he downloads a 5gb file it would use up all the 5gb monthly usuage? The main things he will be doing is, general web browsing, messenger/skype chat, bbc Iplayer/youtube etc and playing the PS3 online. Ive got no idea how much of the usage stuff like viewing a video or playing a game takes up. Thanks for any replies.

This is cool. Did you make this? Is the person on the video you? -
hi, Has anyone got a script that deletes all local user accounts, except ones I specify such as the administrator account and service accounts and also enables and sets a password for the local admin account. Its for windows7. Thanks
-
I thought it only showed this the first time it was ran?
-
It just hangs and never gets an IP. How do I got about finding what the correct .com file is?
-
It would seem so yes, but if i turn off the 3com services and try to pxe boot nothing happens, it doesnt connect to anything, WDS or 3com. Surly if wds was fine it would connect to that when 3com is disabled. The 3com pxe is on the same server as dhcp if it makes any difference.
-
Now when i pxe boot it loads up and gives me the boot menu i created in the guide i posted in my first post. From there i select the ghost option and it loads 3com and boots up ghost. Maybe i can add something to the boot menu i created to list the wds options?
-
They both seem correct. Option 66 is pointing to the wds server name (not ip) and option 67 is set as wdsnbp.com I guess wds will just need to be reinstalled and hope that works
-
WDS is started. Not to sure what you mean by the rest. In the WDS server properties the 'default boot program' are set if thats what you mean?
-
thanks all. I tried disabling the 3com services but than nothing loads during network boot. Not the best of times for this to happen when preparing to deploy the new images!
-
I've not heard of bootland before. I'll take a look into it. Dont suppose you have a guide on using it with ghost? Yeah i guess reinstalling wds will be easyiest way. Do you think this will defintly fix it?
-
Hi, I can no longer see the options for wds when i boot a computer into pxe. I followed this guide to set up symantec ghost pxe Enterprise Support - Symantec Corp. - How to use the 3Com Boot Services with Symantec Ghost thinking it would just give me the extra option to boot to ghost, however i now only have ghost as an option and none of the options from wds. Any ideas how to get these back and keep ghost?

I really enjoyed it. The best gualifiying session i've seen for a VERY long time.

Thanks. Think i've got this sorted. I couldnt get the shutdown script to work... i really dont know why. In the end i set my answer file to prompt for a computer name, then the SetComplete.cmd ran the join domain script and also in the setupcompete is the command to do a restart after 1 minute. Works good:) and exactly what I wanted.
-
Sorry to be a pain. Both those shutdowns dont seem to work either? I've tried both and copied the text to the end of the script an on the second one shutdown.exe is in the same location it's pointing at. Am i doing something wrong? Also I plan to copy the delete command at the end as well to delete the script once ran.
-
Thanks. I will give both a in the morning back at work. It is suppose to be unattended... everything but the computer name that is. I want that to prompt me before joining the domain. EDIT I just tried the line you suggestioned Steve For me it gives an error saying 'type mismatch: "user input"

I've took this script from another site and it seems to work, but it doesnt prompt for a computer name or automaticaly restart. Do any of you clever script people know if its possible to add the above to this script
