I pay them £17.99 per month for up to 8MB broadband but because of my distance from the Exchange I only get 0.5MB. A friend of mine relatively close by pays £8.99 per month and gets about 5MB. I understand the whole distance thing and it's probably more responsibility of BT to get better cables laid but it still winds me up that I have to pay more on ADSL for poor speeds than most others who get great speeds.

SP3 - Packages Not Allocating CC3
gl3nnym replied to Hightower's topic in Network and Classroom Management
We had a problem where after installing SP3 no network packages were installing on a specific brand of laptop. Everything else was fine but this one brand where we had to manually "installrm". Turns out it was an incompatibility with SP3 and the wireless driver. -
This kind of subject can really split up differences of opinion. Personally I think that ADHD is an excuse for behaviour problems. Others think it is a genuine condition which can be distressing to a family. I am no scientist so I don't know.

Ah OK so if I went for the Standard then I guess I can only activate each piece of software twice. Not too bad I suppose. Thanks for the info. Really cleared some things up! (VHD link for Vista doesn't work unfortunately).

Sorry to be a pain but I have just read this article: Microsoft secretly yanks TechNet product keys ? The Register Does this mean I can only use a specific amount of software from TechNet? Of does this mean I can only use each bit of software so many times? I cannot find anything on MSTechNet. Thanks Again

Thanks for the info. I am now looking at the Standard one as that lets me use the software I want e.g. Vista Ultimate and Server 2008. So I will be able to play with AD and GPO with the test version? I don't want anything for production, just testing as you mentioned.

moving the documents to windows 7 from xp
gl3nnym replied to lionsl2005's topic in How do you do....it?
Can the Easy Transfer Wizard help with this? I would agree with EduTech's suggestions though. -
With regards to TechNet. I have seen that the Pro version is £234 per year. Surely this does not grant me full use of ALL software seeing as Vista can go for £170 alone? Need to read more into it but this looks good. Does anybody have a TechNet sub? Any good? @ajs: Brilliant thank you! I will grab that for when I need it! @busby Will try the link, thanks! I don't think work would fork out for a subscription for me but I suppose there is no stopping me getting it myself.

My plan is to run VMware off my laptop (which can happily run a few instances of XP) and have two or three trial Vista VM's setup. I would use this for maybe 1 or max 2 weeks then delete the files after I am done. @swhymark Thanks. Microsoft do allow use of Vista for up to 30 days (I think) without activation. The only trouble is finding them! I am not willing to use torrents or go down the illegitimate route. @ayatollahpies Thanks. Again I do want to use Virtual Machines but cannot find Vista to put on the buggers. The business manager was reluctant enough to pay for the qualification. If I ask him to shell out another £150 for Vista Ultimate he will probably have a stroke! Thanks for the advice so far.

Hi All I am probably right in guessing that most people here have taken a course or studies MS as some point. My question is, when it comes to revising for a course and performing practises, how do you do it without hands on? For example I am currently studying for the 70-620 Vista exam (don't hate on me, work are paying and it's toward my MCITP:ESA). I want to do these practises properly but I don't have the Vista Ultimate media. I will soon need to work on Windows Server 2008 but also do not have access to this anywhere! So how does one get hands on? I was going to try to use Vista Ultimate for the practises during it's trial period then delete it when finished but I cannot get hold of the DVD. I will never be able to get a Server 2008 DVD. I could buy the operating systems but I only want to try them for about a week or so then I have no use for them. Any advice appreciated (this is my first exam by the way, hence the n00bness). glennym

You could always try ESVA Virtual Appliance by Global Domination - GD - Home. I have been using this for about 18 months now and once setup correctly, never had any issues. It's free and has a pretty good support community. All it does is filter and AV your emails and forward them to Exchange.

8GB is a bit slow? How much traffic/users do you have? Maybe I am a bit behind the times and need to check out the capabilities of Exchange 2010.

Looks absolutely fine. One of those things maybe? -
I went from a 1.2 Fiesta to a 2.0 Focus. Quite enjoyable but won't be happy until I get the BMW 330i. Ohhhhh yeeeeh.

I am a bit of a petrol head so like the big engine cars. I do a lot of mileage and it's just more a matter of fun on which car I want, not convenience. I don't worry about having to use the gearbox, it is there to be used so I will use it appropriately.

Domain Admin Access to Teaching Staff
gl3nnym replied to reltihmd's topic in Learning Network Manager
Any time she screws something up just say "I told you so". I agree with CyberNerd, even technicians and NM's need only log on as a domain admin if absolutely necessary. This is why Microsoft have so many groups like Backup Operator, Power User, Remote User etc etc. -
It's so pretty!

Windows XP on HP COMPAQ 615 Laptop with CC3 - Page fault in Nonpaged area
gl3nnym replied to Richings110's topic in Windows
@Richings110 Now that you mention it. We had 4 of those laptops come in this morning with looping issues. They seems to be the same thing whereby after a bad shutdown (finger on button) they don't come back on. Not sure if there is anything to prevent this from happening as they seem very temperamental. -

Windows XP on HP COMPAQ 615 Laptop with CC3 - Page fault in Nonpaged area
gl3nnym replied to Richings110's topic in Windows
Hi Richings110 The laptops came with Windows 7 pre-installed and in the box was a Windows XP CD. We booted them all with the XP CD and had that installed then installed the drivers from the supplied driver CD. We then did a normal smart client on the laptops and let them build as normal with our standard package list. That was all we did! We logged on to them individually and setup the wireless but nothing else was done. Did you install drivers from the supplied CD? Or did you Ghost/image them all? -
Windows XP on HP COMPAQ 615 Laptop with CC3 - Page fault in Nonpaged area
gl3nnym replied to Richings110's topic in Windows
We have recently purchased a batch of the same laptops all downgraded to XP and CC3. Not having the BSOD issue though luckily so it could be an incompatibility with a package you're sending out? We are however having issues with 20 laptops trying to access the wireless all at once. -
Web Hosting Recomendations
gl3nnym replied to TLARWise's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
There are so many out there you are pretty spoilt for choice. Can you not host the website in house on a server? Personally I use PipeTen Windows Hosting and they work well for me but there are tons out there like 123-Reg, GoDaddy, WebFusion, MediaTemple... The list goes on. As a school, we host our website on our own server. -
If they are using it to get higher permissions then I guess there would be data protection issues involved. Otherwise I am guessing that they forgot their password and so have taken to using a colleagues that still has their password as "password1" or something similar. Soooo annoying.
