Anyone stung by the email and password losses at Hamilton Trust? Mike O'Regan (of RM fame) is saying it's not their fault! If you can guarantee that someone's password has been totally compromised, you've been storing it as plain text.

Hello, Our partner school is once again advertising for a Grade 3 ICT Network Manager. This time they have listened to me (shocking!) and upped the hours from 32.5 per week to 36.5 per week to attract more applications. It is term time plus two weeks, but I'm sure accommodations for banked hours etc. can be made for the right person. This is fast growing school, with a young and vibrant staff who dearly need some in house IT Support. I can only give them 4 hours a week now, and it's showing! Hello, We're looking at dumping TV entirely. Currently have Virgin through cable (FTTC then coax), but frankly the saving's aren't that massive when you take the TV package off. I assume BT's infinity is also FTTC not FTTP so the last couple of hundred feet runs on copper. Assuming a house had issues with ADSL 2+ and the issue was never resolved whether it was the copper in the house, the copper to the cab or just a shitty exchange would BT's fibre be a risk?

It's crap. We've spent more time on Dave and Gold watching classic comedies than anything new. Even the Radio Times once a bastion of Christmas TV has remained almost untouched this year.

If all you do to open it is press down on the top, which pops the whole box open ...? Good idea, but just not practical. No security, and no way to avoid hamfisted couriers from accidentally opening it. I doubt many couriers would insure it either, as the box isn't secure enough.

Oh man I've literally just finished an epic night session to burn the last 50 of our 120 Christmas performance DVDs. Normally I use our 10 PCs in the primary IT suite - make 10 masters on my PCs and my techies whack them into the IT suite and every 5 minutes you get another 10. Sadly the DVD burners are never used and half of them make coasters. Hence why I've spent all night at home disc swapping. It's not actually that much time. My techie can print and insert 120 DVD covers, burn the discs and print a label on each in well under a single working day. The parents then get this free at a cost (minus man hours) of about a 100 quid. The bigger issue is that our camcorder is so shite you can barely make the kids faces out. I mentioned this to the Head about a month ago and was told it's too much money for a once a year event. Now he's seen the DVD I've been told to spend as much money as required! I even went in and said £300 would buy a very decent HD machine and I was told to spend more and get the best!!

Also clear you DNS out every now and again - never hurts to remove old client names which no longer exist.

Righto I'm in Handsworth at the moment, and I've found one at our partner school. Problem is it's VGA at one end attached to a wallplate at the other and cable tied with along with 10m lengths of USB, serial and phono leads. As far as testing goes - it worked before the BSS took it down. if you want it let me know and I'll see if I can make a detour to Northfield on my way home to Quinton

The best sat nav I ever had (and lost!) was a £40 eBuyer own brand jobbie. Hopeless mapping software, but after a few hours of Googling I found out how to install the Tom Tom mapping software onto it. Not bad for £40. It was a bit slow though - I have noticed that cheaper sat navs have problems about turns and roundabouts compared to actual Tom Toms. They seem to lag a bit. At the moment I'm using Maps on my iPad for navigation. That really is a nightmare.

840 Pro fan here. I'm my PC at home, at work, home laptop, work laptop. Have had SSDs from the old OCZ 64GB drives and none of them are as good as the Samsung 840s.

Surely it's easier to install from retail/VL media and use something like DriverPack Solution to install the drivers.

Have you tested the procedure with VMs first? Make a 2003 VM, customize it, back up. Create new VM, new OS, recover?
