Spreadsheet? We all know how to install and image an iPad. I'm asking about the volume licensing process direct from Apple.

Hi Folks, Anyone have any experience with volume licensing app store apps? I'd hate to have buy each one 60 separate times! I know you're allowed 5 device installs per app, but I find the EULA to be so grey that I don't know whether this is legal (only home use and business of what education is neither). Ta

My sister in law had to go to her school this morning. Other side of the West Midlands. Her Dad drove her. Now they've closed she's effectively stranded as my in laws have spent the past three hours on the M5!

Both my schools are still on XP for class rooms, with admin mostly on Windows 7. Teachers have Win 7 laptops. I've got a couple of Win 8 trials out. We have a lot of old (and I mean OLD) software that simply won't work on Vista + which is being slowly replaced. I plan for both schools to go Win 7 during Easter. I also had licensing issues, that until recently we were primary only, then primary with a bit of secondary. Now we're fully all age EES licensing was needed, as we were fast running out of Office licenses and CALs. Rather than just buy new CALs I took the opportunity to get select licensing in place.

Yes and it winds me up no end. Tip is dependent on whether I have to chase them for the bill. My father in law has a great trick of just getting up and leaving. You'd be amazed how quickly the bill appears then.

Well it looks like a strategic role more than operational (assume seat at SLT etc.) Bit strange though. During my wife's years there (to 2000) it was a Maths teacher who tinkered with tech who was the de facto Network Manager.

We accept requests like that regardless. I was just wondering whether other schools who've come up against this put an official policy in place. I was going to whack a clause in the AUP and remind termly that it's opt out and if anyone does not want their name on the website to let me know.

Had a query from a member of staff who does not want their name on the school website. Website isn't mentioned on the privacy notice, but staff are aware that staff details go to the LEA and DfE and are probably easily accessible via an FOI request. Do we need an opt in/out for displaying staff names on our website? Does anyone doe this?

Our switchboard phone has died. Service Birmingham no longer provide these, and I'm having problems sourcing another one. Any Bham schools got one sat in a storeroom after an IP telephony migration I could pinch?!

I've got a HP laser printer shared on a Server 2008 (R1) box. It was working fine until the unit was physically replaced with an identical warranty replacement. The printer was set back up exactly the same (IP address etc etc) Now for some reason each morning unless I physically delete the printer from the server and add it back again the printer is shown as offline and will not work. Getting somewhat frustrating! Never seen anything like it. Any ideas?

Mark has hit the nail on the head. But as far as parents are concerned it's about the kit and the quality of teaching. My IT Coordinator (an assistant head) is a fantastic practicioner of IT in the class room, but without the infrastructure, training, support and guidance behind him, the lessons would not go half as well. And that's someone with a real interest in using technology for learning, a teacher who really doesn't care, or care for it would never use it effectively unless there was the appropiate support mechanism behind them. iPads are the great litmus paper for this. If there's no support behind them, a school will buy in to it, get a flashy consultant for a short time and then warehouse them. With a good support department them they work together to find uses for them before they are bought, and then ongoing support for as long as needed to make sure they are updated, upgraded, charged and a point for good practice to pass through.

Give Gove another 5 years and there won't be a Department of Education. Every school for themselves, poaching each others students for cash.
