I've moved from a Sky (TV)/Virgin (everything else) mix this month and with a TiVo and a second HD box in my office I'm saving well over £50pcm. They've changed the throttling recently and tend to traffic shape P2P traffic more. That said on the 60meg package I haven't noticed any problems. I've RX/TX'd 70GB/66GB over the past two days on P2P with no problems. The rest of the internet (iPlayer, large ISO downloads through Technet etc) is rock solid at around 6.1mB/s I've got a SuperHub now and I've had no problems with it over the past two weeks. No resets, no connection drops. HOWEVER! This could be a result of it running older firmware and not yet having the latest "update" applied. I've still got the old Netgear router in case it does cause problems. I'm sure my inlaws have had it for months and they've had no problems, and they download far more than me! One other thing with Virgin is to keep checking their packages. If they make a change say better TV/broadband combo, or even replace your current package with a new one, they will not move you across or inform you! I was on a three year old Medium TV/phone/net package for £44pcm which was a complete rip off compared with the XL package with TiVo and additional HD box with a mobile contract for £75pcm I'm on now.

Anyone had any problems with proxy settings? Win 8 Ent at work does not pick them up via GPO and when you enter manually the metro apps still will not recognise them. I remember this feature from the RC build.

Oh! I like that change start screen monitor. I've been trying to figure out how to do that. I'd rather have it on my secondary monitor, so it doesn't disturb what I'm working on. Perhaps Balmer isn't a complete idiot. I also like the Metro Mail app, much more functional at home that having Outlook open for work emails all day.

Changed my mind a bit. The Start Screen takes longer to organise, but when you do it works well. I've been using it a bit more and I'm getting to like it. Including the Win+X shortcut which brings up power user tools. Sadly installed on my XPS at work and it cocked it up completely - rebooted with the LCD panel off, on, off, on etc. Not sure why. On my home desktop it has problems with a USB 3 RAID hard drive from Buffalo during some power ons, and my internal Yukon gig NIC. The Windows driver will only run at 10meg, whilst the offical Yukon driver has to be force set to 1000mbps, but you have to do this each boot (from auto-set, no network, to 1000mbps, disable adapter, back on). That has surprised me. Such a glitch is a beta problem, not release code.

2003 R2 purely on our CMIS server. Cost far too much money to migrate it to a new one just for professional pride.

Is this for the data drives or the OS?

On a Core2Quad Q6600 with 8GB RAM - 80GB SSD, 3TB on USB 3 external drives. It's awful. It's actually slower on my PC than Windows 7. The new start screen even with dual monitors, one being touch is irritating. Having your old jump list icons on your desktop feels like going back to Windows 2000 again. Gave it a day, now downloading Win 7 from VLSC again. Tried it on a tablet and SMART Board and it's fine. For a desktop/laptop power user - nope.

I've been using it with Office 14 on a Dell Duo and I'm quite impressed. Not enough to install it on my desktop at home yet though!

Well I've just had Virgin round and my internet is now purring along at 60meg. Shouldn't take long to download! Seriously good offer free superhub, free installation, 60meg internet, phone, mobile, full TV package with a 1TB TiVo in the lounge and a HD box plugged into my monitor in the office all for just under £60pcm. I was paying that just for Sky in the living room!

Pffft at one school I inherited (run by a reputable local educational specialist firm!) the pupils had access to all staff work areas (along with the staff having the same access), and even worse all staff had access to the SLT shared area - you know the one with SLT meeting notes, everyone's pay grade, all the pastoral discussions, who's getting the sack etc. GG!

Anyone know why Virgin mobile has two carriers in the UK - one as Virgin (cap V) and the other as virgin (lower case v) which seem to randomly swap between the two. Being anal I want my carrier to have a captial V not a lower case! And I'm interested as to why they have two - is this two virtual networks on two different primary carriers?

The guys in the office are stars and tell them in the nicest way to sod off. It gets to me if they are phoning day in, day out and I tell them to sod off in a very direct way! One supplier even figured out I was split schooling from my email sig and when my main school told them I was offsite they rang my other school, for a sales call! That did not go down well. I wish they'd learn the more you hassle, the less business you'll get. I HATE it when they ring up and say "So, you're budgets in now what projects can I help you with?" If I have a project running I will contact you at the appropiate time. Not vice versa. /rant
