Hi Folks, My school has been in partnership with Hamilton (Special ASD Primary expanding rapidly) for almost the past 2 years. They now have a new Head in place who is a fantastic guy, forward thinking and used to be my line manager several years ago so I speak from experience. The school is currently a specialist primary ASD, but are in the process of expanding rapidly and they need a Network Manager of their own, as we can no longer give them the support they deserve. This is a fantastic school, the kids are great and most importantly the staff are a laugh. The successful candidate will have a proper hand over (shocking!) and any assistance they may need. Well I didn't know that principal refers to a person, where principle to an idea until I just Googled it!

I've just switched back to Linux (Mint with MATE) as the only PC games I play now are Eve (which runs well under Wine) and Kerbal which has a native Linux client. Steam for Linux is limited to just the Valve games, but they do run well. If that's where Gabe is planning to go in the future, then I'm with him.

I'd like to take a look at this as well - Birmingham/West/East Midlands if possible.

Is your internal FQDN the same as your external?

I have this and our internal domain is the same as the external (schname.county.sch.uk). Outlook either won't connect using autodiscover CNAME, or errors. It then uses the "backup" via SRV record which takes forever as it hits the CNAME autodiscover for ages before trying the SRV record. As for a solution - no idea!

If you have staff time you could always connect to Outlook and save in a PST. Depends on the number of mailboxes though.

Yes manually sync the files then format the CSC cache and refresh the GPO.

It's quite amazing I've gone back to dual boot Win 8.1 and Linux Mint, and I've had far more problems with bugs and issues with 8.1 than Linux! When did this happen? Linux became more out of the box user friendly than Windows?!

This is driving me mad. Any site with flash heavy content has a massive chunk of empty white space at the top of the page you have to scroll down through. I've gone through all the internet options in GPP I can think of and it still will not resolve. Help!

For anyone going for the RTM of 8.1 if you have an ASMedia USB 3 hub download the latest drivers from ASMedia/ASUSTek (October 2012). The ones with 8.1 (August 2013) will cause any USB drives attached to spin down, disconnect and then error. It's a great start!

I've been using WebDav accessed via TMG. Sadly you can't buy TMG anymore!!

I'm fairly certain you can't do this, but I've had an inquiry as to whether we can centrally enforce email logon hours so nothing comes through to a mailbox between say 6pm and 7am. Any ideas?

You can't. Precedence of some poor chap in the US who was sacked and then sued by his school district for running SETI@Home on school workstations. In Birmingham it's all blocked anyway, you can't connect to the servers so the only way to do it is to download a package at home, run it, take it home and upload it. Even if the Head agreed, it's still a bit dicey.

Hi Folks, Does anyone have any SLA's they've put together for secondaries supporting primaries? We've been at a primary for 18 months whilst our Head has been Executive over there. They now have their own Head, and I don't want to dump the school, but we need something more formal setup. Any help would be appreciated!

If you are after a school job call every school in your area and offer your services free of charge. I do not have any IT qualifications however, for my first technician job I beat out 119 other applicants thanks to being sociable during the tests and tours and having a few weeks of voluntary experience in another local school. It shows willingness and it shows you are serious about IT in schools instead of school IT because the job is open.
