Home internet issues...
mac_shinobi replied to Little-Miss's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Ive had all sorts of issues with virgin media with there speed throttling, traffic shaping / management to being over subscribed in our area and not being advised of this until after you've signed on the dotted line so to speak an the response from the engineers on numerous occasions was something to the effect of oh look speedtest.net shows 60mbps but then you try and do video streaming ie youtube / catchup tv etc and the videos were repeatedly buffering and they just left it as is and couldn't fix the issues. We were on the XXL Package for all of it and am not being funny but we were paying £70 a month for tv, broadband and phone and customer service was something to be desired oh and the super hubs regardless of version was far from super!! With sky now and ADSL2+ and the connection although slower has been rock solid and consistent and not had issues video streaming etc and customer service has been spot on and cheaper than VM in comparison. Can't get bt infinity in our area so can't comment on that -

Had to replace a laptop screen on a Lenovo and did not realise about ensuring the battery was removed ( the Lithium Ion not cmos ) prior to swapping the screen and ended up either blowing the back light on the laptop screen or the circuitry related to the back light and the replacement laptop screen was very dim, had to book a warranty call again to get them to replace the screen again and then was told about ensuring the battery and mains power was removed before doing any work. Upon looking at the hardware maintenance manuals that Lenovo do ( HMM ) it does state to ensure to remove the battery and the mains power from the laptop before doing any work on the laptop. So whenever I work on laptops now I ensure there is no power connected

You still have to re-fill or ensure water is in that kettle and I couldn't hear the audio but you would still presumably have to make your own tea and coffee with sugar etc anyway, not to mention pouring milk in and the other stuff in the correct order and with tea , remove the tea bags etc

lol I've done that a few times ( the first few times )

PM Sent Will stay subscribed but will say just ensure you disconnect both the laptops battery and mains charger / cable from the laptop when and during doing any work on the laptop. All other things I can think of to do are outlined in the pm 1. Try better quality RAM ( sometimes cheap RAM can cause similar issues if the laptops graphics card is on-board ) 2. Suspend any encryption so you can disconnect the cmos battery for however long and then re-connect the cmos battery ( will need to make a note of some bios settings, more specifically SATA Modes ie AHCI vs compatability / IDE Mode ) and will have to re program / re-enter date / time settings etc 3. Re-seat ( as mentioned above ) display cable connectors both the one going into the system board and possibly the one on the rear of the laptop screen One thing I forgot to mention was to possibly update the BIOS on the laptop and update graphics card drivers If all of that fails then cheaper to replace the display cable and the inverter cable before replacing the laptops screen. If the RAM Memory module fixes the issue then just buy a replacement RAM Module for the laptop As per @Koldov's comment - good call to clean out all / any fans of dust / debri's etc to reduce the amount of heat building up inside the laptop

I get the same thing - only thing I can think of and not sure how relevant or related it is. Just wondering if we have any add ons to do currency conversion enabled etc. That or maybe the proxy I am going through ? Update after going through the purchase process before you have to pay anything it shows the correct UK Price of £339 for the 32gb black model

If possible make sure you have a backup of all data before doing a firmware upgrade seems to be the moral of the story with NAS devices

Might be worth reserving the same ip address in dhcp so that dhcp is not trying to or giving that ip address out to another device ( so that the printer is always getting that ip address for definite ) Which drivers are you using on the print server and for the clients ?
