About 3 different ways that I can go but I normally only use 2 different routes, currently using a slightly longer route which I believe is about 20 miles and that takes me about an hour to go from door to door due to traffic / speed limit being variable ie 60 mph on certain parts and then slowing down for villages for a number of parts ie 30mph and having to go through an industrial estate etc If I go the way I used to go then between 20 to 30 mins but due to road works etc it is taking too long to use this route which is a pita as means I am using more fuel to drive the way I have to go now.

Not DNS related but put : remote.school.co.uk As an exception within IE settings via GPO so that it does not go through your proxy server out to the internet etc so its treated as a local intranet site Or do you need it to use dns to do that for other reasons ? Just a long shot / thought etc

Data backup as well as imaging so if it goes sunny side up you can at least get the raid re configured and re image if need be and then put all data back on etc

Before you swap the battery over is there no way to access the raid cards configuration before it boots into the OS ( normally an F key ie F10 or whatever ) and save a backup of the configuration to a memory stick or else where and then swap the battery ?

If you have an older Dell driver for video or other components it says Unknown or not a recognised device etc, if you go into device manager --> find the relevant device etc --> right click --> uninstall --> tick / check the check box to delete the driver DO NOT REBOOT and then go to the intel downloads site ( downloads.intel.com ) something like that to auto detect and install drivers and should be able to install from intel website, if you do reboot then it uses the windows 7 driver ( which may have been updated to the dell driver which then puts the dell driver back in ) update - website url for intel should be ( Click the continue button at the top left and follow that through and allow / install the add ons etc ) downloadcenter.intel.com

Restore BIOS to factory defaults and then adjust some items ie boot order and possibly SATA Mode etc and if you have any passwords on the BIOS to put those back etc and try again Also when you say drivers with ref to updating them, is this from the Dell website or from the manufacturers website ie Intel or whoever ? I noticed for the Dell E6400 and some other models that they have / make , the Dell website seems to have out dated drivers in comparison to say Intel or whoever ie broadcomm, Marvel Yukon etc etc so I prefer to download from the manufacturer sites ( not Dell ) for drivers etc, see if that helps at all ?

Can't seem to find a valid download for Nero Info Tool ( need to be able to see what my optical drive supports as far as writing to cd / dvd etc ? Does anyone know a valid link of where I can download the zipped up or exe version of Nero Info Tool ( whatever the latest version is ) or maybe another utility that will give me the same info ( without having to insert different discs etc )

Going from the above analogy ( I know this is an old post as stated above ) but can you get a Chocolate Network or any other flavour ?

If it is still under warranty then I would if possible try going down that route first ( so as not to invalidate the warranty ). If it is out of warranty you could try Do you get any display if you use an external monitor via a VGA or similar video connector ie DVI / Display Port / HDMI etc ? 1. Disconnect battery and mains power 2. Establish from guide(s) either hardware maintenance manual from RM website or via google to take the laptop apart so as to remove / disconnect the cmos battery for at least 10 seconds and then re-connect and using only mains power after re connecting the keyboard, touchpad etc then power it back on and see if this helps If you do move the laptop screen around can you see it vaguely ie screen is very dim ( back light may have gone or be blown etc ) ? Or when moved around does the screen come on ok and then go off etc or have any issues with the screen ie multiple lines etc Presume there is not much dust etc causing it to over heat to the point where by it will not power on as it gets too hot so the thermal safe guards in the BIOS are powering the laptop off as soon as you try to power it on etc ? I would say see what happens after dis-connecting and re-connecting the cmos battery to see if that helps at all and also clearing out any dust etc out of the notebook from where the fan vents and or fans are.

Make and model of laptop - as seems that different makes ( and or possibly models ) of laptops / notebooks tend to act differently with regards to power issues, ie got some Lenovo T400 laptops that have an issue where by if the laptops battery is run flat and due to these using onboard shared graphics memory ( the graphics memory which is shared ie uses RAM ) becomes corrupted and the laptops screen will only show you a blank screen yet you can see the LED's under the screen for hard drive, bluetooth etc all come on and some of the flash on / off etc To resolve this we have to remove the mains power and battery and then disconnect the cmos battery for about 10 seconds or so and then re connect the cmos battery, power the laptop back on ( which prompts to re program date / time / SATA Mode to the same as it was previously ) before it will boot back up again with the display working. Have you tried disconnecting the battery and mains power , re connect the mains power lead and then try to power the laptop back on without any battery installed / inserted into the laptop ? Also is the mains power button apart of the keyboard or is it separate or what exactly ? Only ask as got some other models of Lenovo's where by the power button is intergrated into the keyboard and to resolve this , is just a simple case of swapping the keyboard for a known working one, if that powers the laptop on then its an easy enough fix ( but then will mean you need a replacement keyboard for either one of the laptops. Again on the Lenovo's if they do not detect the mains charger ( AC Adaptor ) then more often then not it is the dc in cable that is at fault ( which if under warranty we book in a support call with Lenovo who send out an engineer to replace this DC IN Cable ) If the above is the case then have you got another battery from the same make / model of laptop that is charged and try this in the laptop without being connected to mains power and if this powers the laptop on then it may just be the DC IN Cable in the laptop itself. Just some examples and no doubt other makes / models of laptops / notebooks may vary in how you diagnose / troubleshoot the issues that they have

Not sure how much use this is now but reclaime is meant to be quite good, think it is a one off of £50 ( give or take a bit ) , failing that test disk ReclaiMe File Recovery Software TestDisk - Partition Recovery and File Undelete Don't restore data onto the same faulty or problematic hard drive and you should be ok

If it is on a website - just curious If you try a different web browser so google chrome / firefox ( is that any different ) , if so maybe remove all history / auto complete history and restore IE to defaults Try again in IE ? Also what version of IE are you using ( presuming you use IE of course ) ?

Not sure how much this helps but either 1.) In the system tray --> Click on the speaker icon ( windows volume ) --> Click on the blue link near the bottom that says 'Mixer' which should open a dialog window up --> hopefully you should have a scroll bar at the bottom of this to show / view more volume options, hopefully one for applications ? 2.) Control panel ( whilst in an icon view so where it states view by at the top right adjust this to either large or small icons ) --> Sound --> ensure that the relevant playback item is set as default so if using headphones then select the headphones option and click on set default button and try again 3.) Maybe need to look at the options that the realtek or audio utility gives you with regards to volume levels / ensuring that it has the headphones as the device it is playing back audio through, not muted and also volume is at a reasonable level through this utility. None of that works then I would say to do what @nephilim has advised regards to ensuring that the audio files included with the application actually work
