Does the printer get a valid ip address ie not APIPA etc, or have you manually configured the ip address, subnet mask etc onto the printer and done a DHCP Reservation in your DHCP Scope etc using the printers mac address When it is connected using these splitters, can you ping the printers ip address from a computer on the same subnet / vlan etc ? You adding the printer on a print server or onto a client or what exactly ?

Power Line adapter - would a pair of these be any good ?

If it is the laptop display then may as stated above just be a case of disconnecting and re-seating the display cable ( Ribbon cable ) etc

Wonder - is the laptop still in warranty , maybe a call to Toshiba or whoever, if it is in warranty may get repaired that way, if it is out of warranty then wondering if they can suggest anything else to try as like you said it was powered on and working and then ran out of battery power and just powered off, odd that it won't power back on just because it ran out of battery. Just had another thought - if you plug in an external vga or similar monitor and use the FN ( Function keys ) on the laptop to swap displays etc , do you get any display on the monitor Just wondering if the back light or similar has blown or stopped working so looks like you are not getting anything due to the screen not working or being very dim ?

What about trying to power the laptop on with 1. the hard drive out of the laptop 2. the cmos battery disconnected 3. Take the optical drive out - I have had a few faulty optical drives that keep trying to read media when there is no media / cd / dvd etc in the drive and it keeps trying to read and will freeze or stop from booting ( although doubt it in this situation as you would hear or notice the drive trying to frantically read the drive as you can hear it spinning around etc ) Also if you take the ram out and try and power it on, I presume you get beep codes with regards to it detecting no ram installed ? Also I presume it has the heat sink / fan assembly installed correctly so it's not that it is not powering on due to the CPU over heating etc ?

Only other thing that I have seen issue wise similar to what you describe is when or if a laptop has had a damaged USB Port and one or more of the copper pins inside is touching the outside of the usb port which shorts it out?? Failing that disconnect cmos battery for about 5 mins or so and re-connect and only connect the AC Cable back in ( not the battery ) if that works then insert the battery back etc @soveryapt

The original hard drive. Is that Sata version 1,2 or 3 in comparison to the SSD? Also I presume you have the issues on both drives? Also in the bios before you install the OS what mode is SATA in ie IDE Compatable, AHCI? Also either reset bios to factory defaults and are there any bios and or driver updates? Maybe also make sure the intel matrix mass storage drivers are installed and updated Also as Arthur mentioned if the drivers you are using don't work correctly then maybe try the Intel or relevant drivers from the manufacturers website for the component in question ie if the soundcard is by realtek / conexant / creative or who ever then get the drivers from there site not Dell / Alienware I think Intel have a system scanner but won't allow you to download the drivers if the existing driver is installed as it detects them as unknown and states your manufacturer driver is already installed so may need to remove existing drivers or find the correct driver yourself / manually on the intel site Also just out of curiosity not sure if Linux will have all the correct drivers but if you try a couple of Linux Distros ie Mint / Suse / Ubuntu Do they have similar issues with crashing / freezing etc Not related but I did have a Lenovo desktop that was in warranty and I burnt off a bootable diagnostics disc which could only test RAM and HDD and the RAM test ran fine and the hard drive one got to about 10% and the pc would reboot or freeze. They swapped the motherboard, the ram module and in the end it was the cpu that was at fault as in the processor. Once that was swapped it worked great Also warranty cover on the laptop I presume has expired and the only cover you have will be a short period of time from where you purchased it from ?
