For texting, you could get the swipeIT keyboard.... My favourite way of writing texts! You swipe your fingers across the on-screen keyboard, a line follows, and when you take your finger off the screen, it gives you a choice of words. Get it free from Android Market!

Or you could buy the GT540 on O2 and do the same!!! (Can you tell i have the 540???) LOL!!!

You could buy the San Fran....get it unlocked....and then join O2 text and web PAYG! That is unlimited web + 300 texts. That's good for me, as I hardly use the actual phone bit, but like surfing the net...and I don't get the shock of watching my credit disappear!

IMHO..... First impressions were of a cluttered screen, but then after a few seconds, I began to like the presentation, and decide that it's not as cluttered as it seems. Some kind of optical illusion going on there, methinks! Am surprised to see the home menu on the left, as well as the home menu bar. Would've thought that one OR the other would've been sufficient. (Mind you, I'm not a web designer, so take my thoughts with a pinch of salt!). Overall, I think it has a very crisp and clear view (despite my initial reservations), gets across everything that you need it to, and looks very good.

I have to say..... I still LOVE my GT540....especially since I got the 2.1 upgrade. The San Fran looks a really decent piece of kit, and had I been looking NOW for a phone, I would deffo go for it. As it stands, I'm not gonna be swapping, but I'll look again in a year or so's time! As long as Gibbo is happy with it, then that is excellent news!

Gibbo, I think you should do a full review on it! After reading the reviews on the site, I wish it had come out a month earlier, and on O2!!! Wouldn't mind having it myself!!! Good choice, fella!

This is a quick update from my first post...... They came in twice to us, as the first visit couldn't get it all in the van! Still free, I found their guys to be very professional and very good!! Anyway, this is the email (or part of) that I received this morning! It would be worth shutting off "Background Data" as some apps use this to update in the background. This also uses a lot of credit.....unless you have an unlimited plan!

LG GT540 is NOW Android 2.1 !!!! I have just installed the new OS, and it runs like a dream! Buy LG....you won't be disappointed!!!

Congratulations on your event. Nothing went wrong, so there's no egg on your face. But, now that you've got the children interested in trying to find a way around the filters, don't be surprised if they manage it in future! "If you don't try, if you don't put your neck on the line, if you don't trust what you do - what's the point?????" - Agreed, but I would like to find a better way, than challenging children/adults to hack the filter!

Mind you, I should also qualify this all by saying............ I have no idea what the Orange plans are like, but with O2 I have Text and Web..... As long as I top up £10 a month, I get 300 texts and unlimited web access..... Oh, and the Orange branding is supposed to be quite invasive on the LG and the San Fran.....But, you pays your money, you takes your choice!!

Hi Gibbo.......... Just seen this, and thought I'd put my two-penneth in!!! I cannot tell you about the San Fran, but the GT540 is deffo in my sphere!!! I've had this phone for nearly a month, and I certainly don't look on it as "crippled" by 1.6. I actually LOVE my phone, and there is hardly a day goes by when I don't have my missus saying something along the lines of "Put that bleeding thing down, and do something constructive"!!! She doesn't take well to my answer that I AM doing something constructive!! Back to the OP....2.1 (Eclair) is supposed to be being released in the VERY near future for the 540, and apart from the improvements colour-wise, I cannot see how they can improve the OS. The phone runs quickly, battery life has settled down, and all in all I am very very happy with the LG. I would hope that a San Fran owner comes forward, in the interests of balance, but as a first smartphone, I think it's hard to beat the LG, on a budget!

My Android phone took the exchange settings straight away............... I know that's not much help, but it's gotta be another nail in the iPhoney's coffin, hasn't it??? LOL!!!

Have you tried YOUR account? If it works on Android 2.1, then it should be fine on the iPhone. My guess is that the apple rubbish is at fault! ("The apple rubbish" is MY opinion, and should not be taken seriously!)

When I lived in Brentwood, Eseesx, and drove into London at night for work, I had a 1.2 Kia Picanto. Tiny car, tiny engine..... However, despite being underpowered around the M25 and A13, it'd still do 70.....But it came into it's own once I reached Central London. See a gap? Go for it! Snappy acceleration and lots of fun. It was a breeze driving around the city. Now that I live in the sticks, and although I really need a 4WD, the Scort does the job, especially on the back roads of Suffolk!

Staff on our network are unable to view outlook web access from remote/home locations after leaving the network with their laptops. This is in IE, and has been causing headaches for the last couple of weeks. I would like to implement a group policy for our remote/laptop users so that the DNS is flushed, this SHOULD clear the problem. Therefore, the question is..... Anyone got a clue how to do it?? Having just read through the WHOLE thread....I can honestly say that I agree with Timzim. What sounds like a really good idea is actually pretty flawed, for exactly the reasons that Tim gives. I have nothing but absolute faith in our filters, here, but I wouldn't want to expose them to the efforts of a group of parents....mainly because you never know when one of them might be an IT guru, who will get round your filters in a moment! It is worth YOU putting on a mini-demonstration of what the filters do, and then an explanation of what happens should the policy be breached......but encouraging people to crack the filters AND offering an incentive to do it......Hmmmm I cannot believe for one second that my ICT Manager would sanction that!
