  1. We stopped using sync at all the primary schools I look after a few years back, when we had a similar issue. We use a combination of onsite backups, offsite backups, remote desktop and Google.
  2. For some reason this did not auto update on my computers so I needed to re-download Google Drive (desktop) to get the new features.
  3. At one of my primary schools I will be introducing a 2012r2 DC to their 2008r2 domain. When I went from 2003 to 2008r2 I created a check list (listed below) and wondered if much has changed or if this is the correct order. run dcdiag and netdiag Check domain & forest functional level adprep /forestprep and /domainprep adprep /domainprep /gpprep DCPROMO Check replication run dcdiag and netdiag Transfer the FSMO roles Setup time service Setup DHCP Demote old server Raise domain & forest functional level
  4. Sorry if this was mentioned, I did have a scan of the posts. So far the Lib Dems are the only main party that would not do this, saying it is a completely bonkers idea on radio 4 yesterday.
  5. So did anyone in your family give you some 'special' mushrooms with your dinner?
  6. My wife asked if any of us do any work. lol Just trying to see if I can get everything from ebuyer. Currently GPU is with scan.co.uk and ebuyer do similar Gigabyte GPUs and I wondered what the difference is between these two. Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming 4GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card - Ebuyer Gigabyte GTX 970 WINDFORCE 3X 4GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI 3 DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card - Ebuyer
  7. Wife's schools does not have EES so no cheap OS for us. 8.1 pro is to expensive so getting 8.1 home. OK, the list so far Intel Core i5 i5-4690K CPU (Quad Core 3.5GHz Processor, 6MB Cache, Intel HD 4600 Graphics, Socket H3 LGA-1150) http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KPRWB9...h_pcggrtest-21 £179 Gigabyte GTX970 WindForce 3 OC 4GB Nvidia (Maxwell) PCI Express Graphics Card Gigabyte GTX970 WindForce 3 OC 4GB Nvidia (Maxwell) PCI Express Graphics Card * Scan Exclusive * - GV-N970WF3OC-4GD - Scan.co.uk £283 MSI Z97-G43 Socket 1150 VGA DVI HDMI 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard MSI Z97-G43 Socket 1150 VGA DVI HDMI 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard - Ebuyer £77 Corsair 8GB DDR3 1866MHz Vengeance Kit Corsair 8GB DDR3 1866MHz Vengeance Kit - Intel Haswell - Ebuyer £73 Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5inch SSD Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5inch SSD - Ebuyer £109 Corsair CSM 650W Semi Modular 80+ Gold Power Supply Corsair CSM 650W Semi Modular 80+ Gold Power Supply - Ebuyer £76 Fractal Design Core 3000 Fractal Design Core 3000 - Ebuyer £44 Windows 8.1- 32-bit/64-bit Eng Intl DVD Windows 8.1- 32-bit/64-bit Eng Intl DVD - Ebuyer £83 Total £924 Just looking at Gaming mouses and keyboards and they do have some very cheap ones, which should make SunnyKnight happy as he was not pleased at me using Dell
  8. OK decided on this motherboard Fractal Design Core 3000 - Ebuyer Next up, unless I have missed something is OS 8.1 home or pro? Just wondering if teachers get a discount as wife is a teacher or at what age pupils get discounts as I have a child in Primary school.
  9. @Sunnyknight I will not be using water or overclocking (much) any time soon and when I do I will get a decent case. I am still on a budget of sorts and saving money on the case seems better than cutting back on internal hardware. @sonofsanta Thanks for picking out some cases, I will have a look in a moment. Just so you know I am not one for over the top looking cases and will probably go with a boring looking one.
  10. Think I have got the type of case worked out (Full Tower E-ATX Cases) and have narrowed it down to these 3 very cheap cases Cougar Archon Gaming PC Case Black with Orange Interior Mesh Window - Ebuyer Cougar MX300 Gaming Case Black Honeycomb Front Windowed - Ebuyer Sharkoon VS3-V Black Case, Green Application ATX Case - Ebuyer Apart from one of the cases above having green lights would one of them be preferred over the others?
  11. What type of case should I get for the hardware I am getting. They seem to do ATX, Full Tower e-ATX, midi ATX etc. I am OK with the one in this post that @LeMarchand found but I can not find it on ebuyer. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/general-chat/147264-decided-not-get-ps4-xbox1-but-going-build-gaming-pc-any-advice-7.html#post1261167 Cheap Computer Cases Low Prices UK Deals | Ebuyer.com - Intel Core i5 i5-4690K CPU (Quad Core 3.5GHz Processor, 6MB Cache, Intel HD 4600 Graphics, Socket H3 LGA-1150) http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KPRWB9...h_pcggrtest-21 £179 - Gigabyte GTX970 WindForce 3 OC 4GB Nvidia (Maxwell) PCI Express Graphics Card Gigabyte GTX970 WindForce 3 OC 4GB Nvidia (Maxwell) PCI Express Graphics Card * Scan Exclusive * - GV-N970WF3OC-4GD - Scan.co.uk £283 - MSI Z97-G43 Socket 1150 VGA DVI HDMI 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard MSI Z97-G43 Socket 1150 VGA DVI HDMI 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard - Ebuyer £77 - Corsair 8GB DDR3 1866MHz Vengeance Kit Corsair 8GB DDR3 1866MHz Vengeance Kit - Intel Haswell - Ebuyer £73 - Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5inch SSD Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5inch SSD - Ebuyer £109 Total so far £721 - Corsair CSM 650W Semi Modular 80+ Gold Power Supply Corsair CSM 650W Semi Modular 80+ Gold Power Supply - Ebuyer £76
  12. You will not believe it but my mum has just transferred enough money to get the fence fixed and more. Looks like the PC build is back on. Just got to find the correct section in this 22 page forum that has all the info I need to start buying. Think I was up to choosing a case. WOW how things change.
  13. I have gone and done it and ordered a PS4 The bundle was GTA V, DriveClub & The Last Of Us for £339 from Game which is a good deal. Apologies and thanks to everyone and especial @Sunnyknight who will be muttering obscenities about now. My plan is to Play the PS4 for a while and start saving from scratch for a PC.
  14. That is how I am thinking but getting a PC did take me away from the 'Do I get PS4 or XB1' Issue.
  15. Bad news for my PC build this morning as our fence came down during the night. I reckon it's going to cost £400+ to get fixed. Which leaves me with £300 ish. I have a few options. Go down the PS4 / Xbox1 path or start to build a PC rig but in the knowledge it will not be running any time soon. As you can guess I am not feeling very happy today.
  16. Not at any of my Primary schools, sorry
  17. She does come with perks. So the trade off is worth it.
  18. We must have set things up differently. So long as a user has mapped drives while in the school they will get mapped drives while using the remote desktop. The way I look at it is they are in essence remotely controlling a computer in the school, be it a virtual one, but it's still in the school and the remote user is simply sending the mouse or keystrokes over the internet to the remote system. When they log in they are using a system that is part of the domain so any gpo's or scripts just run as though they are in the school. I would start another thread if I were you and see if anyone on Edugeek can help as I did not really need to do much to get it working.
  19. Thanks for the info. I will chuck something together just to get them started. One other question, When adding teaching staff to class connect what roles do you assign? viewer, editor, Owner or Admin. I assume Owner for general staff but wanted to check.
  20. The RDS server should work like any other computer on your network. If you network computers can map drives then your rds server and sessions should also be mapping drives. I have what the OP wants at all of my primary schools although I did end up using another server. Install server OS Install remote desktop services role Install terminal services gateway role Install terminal services licensing role Buy CALS which are very cheap That's a general overview of the process and worked for me
  21. Work is going to be very busy for the next few days so not much time to look. On a plus note the wife has found me an extra £100, YAY. So I have about £700.
  22. Just setting up some LearnPads at a primary school and wondered how everyone else arranges the desktop. Do you, Have one desktop/lesson for KS1 and one for Ks2 Have one desktop/lesson with each of the years as a category, so they have a Reception folder and a Year 1 folder etc Separate desktops/lessons for each of the year groups. Or do you have some alternative way of setting them up?
  23. In sql manager is the database set to simple or full?
