Hi @3s-gtech they use the local hyper-v manager to create VMs on a remote server, if that makes any sense?
-
Hi all, Hope you are well. One of the schools I work at the students have hyper-v manager access in one of the rooms. Originally they only had access through one account, but I have just found out it was a limited staff account setup, but students are starting to abuse it now, as they will, so it has been disabled. I spoke to the former head of IT and apparently they couldn't get Hyper-v manager working on a student account. Does anyone know of the permissions or a way in applocker to allow Hyper-v manager access for a student account? Thanks.

Finally sorted this for a MDT USB install. Had to alter the Task Sequence so that Format and Partition for BIOS and UEFI Disk number was 1 not 0.

Using a Fire TV, Chromecase or Roku in school
Theldron replied to Theldron's topic in Cloud Services
We have a separate WIFI that we use for visitors, Ofsted etc. I am sure we have the TV and ERA licenses but will check. Thanks -
Hi, The school wants to have a news channel or something playing in the dining room for the students. We have a TV but it is not smart, so was wondering are there any licensing or any other implications to the school purchasing a Fire TV stick, Roku or Chromecast? Anybody done this? Thanks
-
Cheers. Yeah I am trying to sort that, but I cannot get the MDT USB to format the hard drive, keep getting an error during the process, saying it cannot find the hard drive. Got the drivers but not sure if I am missing a storage controller.

Hi @dapaulio, thanks for the reply. I have checked and I have the ones that cannot PXE boot. Which is annoying. But we'll keep smiling.

Hi all, Hope you are well. We have some of the DFE Geobooks that won't PXE boot, so I created a USB offline media, to install but it keeps failing trying to find the hard drive. Initially I was getting an error saying it was trying to format the USB stick, so in the Task sequence I changed the Format and Partition Disk to 1 from 0 and now its saying 'Unable to determine Destination Disk, Partition and/or Drive.' Do I need to install a driver for the disk in the task sequence? Any ideas? Thanks

I know, Direct Access was setup before I started so haven't had to do anything with it. The only thing I have found is this, https://directaccess.richardhicks.com/2019/05/02/renew-directaccess-self-signed-certificates/ not sure if I trust a script to do this though. Microsoft state that you need to renew the cert, but no advice how to actually do it.

Hi all, Hope you are well. First days back with staff and they said that they haven't been able to access the school drives from home for a few days. I checked and the 5 year certificates have expired. I am struggling to find a way to renew them? Is there any Microsoft documentation for this that I have missed? Or if somebody could point me in the right direction? Many thanks

Hi, Hope you are well. We have had a big staff change in one of the schools, I look after, some without handover. Due to this, the new heads of department can't access the sharepoint sites created through teams. I was hoping changing the owners on the Teams groups would give them access, but they are saying they still can't see the sharepoints. As an admin is there a way I can see all sharepoint sites created? I have looked and can only see the ones I have made. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi @Gongalong did you get anywhere with this? Had Video editor in a previous build of windows, but changed the wim file to 21h2 and now don't have it.
-
Hi all, Hope you are well We have brought some Fujitsu A3510 Laptops and I am trying to image them with SCCM. All other devices mainly other models of Fujitsu laptops image fine, but these keep throwing wobblers whilst PXE booting into SCCM (loading the wim boot image) we get the error: 0xc0000017 An unexpected error has occured. I am sure I have seen this before, but I can't recall how to resolve it? Any ideas. Thanks

Brilliant ill give that a go, thanks all.

I know that having mapped drives present but not accessible when working from home, can cause issues of hanging etc, as file explorer tries to access it. So is there a way that the mapped drive is only created if the network is connected?
-
No, no VPN, we use Offline files for the user drive, but staff and studentshares are not connected. They are present but just have the red X on them when used offsite.
-
Hi all, Hope you are well. The head at one of my schools is having a problem, where when they are working from home, and using word etc. The laptop will hang for a short amount of time. I think this is due to the mapped drives being present but of course disconnected. I have had experience in the past where this can happen. Is there anyway in GPO that the mapped drives will not create if the user is not onsite? Or would that be through a script? Thanks.

Hi all, I have been asked to price up 16 PCs that will run Adobe CC, especially Premiere Pro and Photoshop. I have looked at the specs on the Adobe website and ok with the CPU, RAM etc. But just looking at the GPU. Do people find certain integrated GPUs enough, or have they had to go with a more high powered GPU? There will be no 4K stuff only HD at most. I haven't been given a budget either, just asked to price up. Thanks

Enabling Online Speech Recognition - Read, Write Gold
Theldron replied to Theldron's topic in Windows 10
Thanks, they use Dragon at another school and it setup fine. I am stuck with it at the moment whilst they are doing the exams. I just cannot get Read, Write to recognise Online Speech Recognition. I have tried all the registry entries etc. Everything seems in place, but it keeps saying To use Talk&Type please enable Online speech recognition. This is a locked down student exam logging, so unfortunately can't just go to settings and enable it. Running out of patience with it. -
Hi all, We are using Read, Write Gold for our exams for students that need it and they want to use the dictation part of read, write. It says that I need to enable online speech recognition for it to work, though I have set this following this doc https://www.saintlad.com/enable-or-disable-online-speech-recognition-in-windows-10/ I have tried to do via the registry (preferences) and GPO, but when I run it on the student login it keeps asking for Online speech recognition to be enabled. I am stuck, anyway around this? Thanks

Hi all, Happy Friday. We have had Unity for a while, but for some reason recently, we have been getting this error. I am wondering if this is a firewall issue, but wondering if anybody else had any ideas? Thanks

May 2022 Windows Updates may cause issues with NPS and RRAS
Theldron replied to free780's topic in Enterprise Software
Just had 4 days of nightmares because of this update. Had no wifi in one school and patchy wifi that kept dropping out at another school. None of the actual warning signs listed by Microsoft were present in the environments and the affected services have been completely different. But the out of bands patch for this update fixed both schools.
