  1. Hi all, Hope you are well. When I came to my school, they did not enable windows firewalls. We have done this now, but now we are having a few issues with SCCM and accessing the separate SQL server. What are the SCCM/SQL ports that I need to add to the firewall? When I am trying to do an SCCM update, the prerequisites failed are: SQL Server Service running account Site Server computer account administrative rights Domain Membership Unsupported Site server operating system version In the logs I get this: ERROR:Can not get sql instance regkey. ERROR:Failed to get Sql edition, Sql Server I believe this is firewall blocks. Any help would be appreciated.
  2. Hi all, Hope you are well. Something that has been brought up, does anyone use recycle bins on staff laptops? We use offline files for staff to use their laptops at home, but we don't use the recycle bins for them, if they delete anything. Does anyone use this? Is there a reason not to? Is it easy to implement for a mapped network drive? Thanks
  3. Hello, Hope you are well. One of schools I work for has purchased Dragon Dictate for students to use. I have installed the software but we are getting this error. speech recognition is not available because the topic and language combination specified is not valid Any ideas how to rectify. Thanks.
  4. Hi all, I have been asked to setup ready for exams in May, where the students need to access Dreamweaver and Premiere Pro, but they cannot have access to the internet. With Adobe software needing internet connection to open, the only thing I can think of doing is creating a internet banned device group in ABTutor and then once they have opened the programs they need, adding them to that group. I was originally just going to ban all web browsers, so that they could still open Adobe, but I have been told that they need a browser to test their sites. So ABTutor route is the only thing that I can think of. Anyone had to do this before? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
  5. Sorted the problem, delivery optimisation needs to be disabled (changed to bypass in GPO). Here is an article if anyone has the same issue. https://www.thewindowsclub.com/disable-delivery-optimization-via-group-policy-or-registry-editor
  6. Hi all, Hope you are well. I have come across an issue, where any of my Server 2019 servers will not download updates from WSUS. They see the updates but all get stuck on Pending Download. Any ideas? Thanks
  7. Hi all, Hope you are well. This error has reared its head again for us. It used to only effect Chrome so we would use Firefox for card printing, but now even Firefox is doing it. Not sure if a Windows update has caused problems. Any ideas? Thanks
  8. Hi, Not yet, it seems to be a firewall problem. We are still looking at it, got a card printing problem now. The only thing I was told, is make sure any IP addesses in your System - Salto Network, are available nothing is blocking them. Not sure if that will help. Take care.
  9. Hi, Hope you are well. We have 2 SANs in a management group that replicate, recently we had a couple of power outages at the school and when I went to look at the CMC it is saying the status of one of the SANs is: Cache Corrupt-see alarms, Storage System Offline, Manager Office, No in a management group. The company we have the warranty with replaced the cache battery, but they couldn't replace the module as the one they had was dead. Just wondering if it is likely the cache module that is the problem for that error? Anyone else had this before? Thanks
  10. Hi all, Hope you are well. Anyone had any issues imaging the DFE laptops HP and Dell via SCCM? I am trying in one school and: Dell - Go through imaging process, but then do not join the domain and I am stuck on an Administrator login after the build. HP - Going through the imaging process and then I end up with a black screen but can hear Cortana in the background wanting to choose a network connection etc. At another school I have built using MDT on the Dell and HP and they have imaged fine. Any ideas? Thanks
  11. Hi Spaceinvader thanks for that, how do you deal with the database, do you share it somehow? Edit: I didn't see the link you posted thanks. Will look through that.
  12. Hi all, Hope you are well. We have a Paxton mag door system and using Net Access 2 with a Paxton card reader to register cards. The server the net access is on is a VM on Hyper-V but I cannot see if I can passthrough the USB card reader to the VM. Is this possible? Thanks
  13. Hi all, We have a Salto system which was working fine before half-term but now, when we go onto online monitoring, it is saying all the access points are not connected and that an address is required. This is what we see, could this be firewall? Though can't see why it would just happen. Thanks
  14. That is an interesting one, hopefully it was just our setup. But if not maybe the below might help. Programs and Features in Control Panel, and repaired the Microsoft SQL entries. I ran repair on SQL Server 2012 LocalDB and SQL Server 2012 Setup.
  15. Fixed this, looks like the latest update, messed with the SQL Browser, plus other SQL stuff. Ran repairs, started the browser, plus VSS writer, plus the apps, and retrying the backup. So far, so good.
  16. Hi all, Our VM DC was working fine, but I installed the new Server 2012 r2 updates installed last night, and now I am seeing SQL errors and Veeam is not backing it up. Looking in Event Viewer there is alot of SQLVDI, WIDVDI BackupVirtualDeviceFile::PrepareToFreeze: failure on backup device '{B290FC54-DC3C-4C35-BC70-16DAEFF7F85A}4'. Operating system error 995(The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.). Any ideas? Thanks
  17. Hi, thanks for that. But isn't that for live accounts, rather than for staff that have left the school?
  18. Hi, Hope you are well. Just trying to find out if there is a maximum time you can keep former staff mailboxes for? I have read in a few places it is 1-3 months, depending on their role. Thanks
  19. Thank you so much, this saved my a**. Setup a powershell script to install the driver from a local folder (GPO copied) and add the printer queues via the Add-Printer command and it is now working. That has taken so much pressure off me.
  20. Hi all, Resetting some DFE laptops (HP 250 G7) to be using in school last minute job, I can get them to install my school image, but then they get stuck on 'Checking the connection to Microsoft, this may take a while', and it stay on that, my normal school laptops on imaging don't do this. Not sure what is going on, any ideas? Thanks
  21. Hi all, Hope you are well. I am attempting to setup some Occulus Rifts, that the school want to use as part of an IT course, but I cannot install the software, it says they can't connect to the Occulus Rift servers. Has anybody done this, was there any firewall rules that you needed to setup? Thanks
  22. Thanks for all the advice, have gone for full fat install. Spent so long messing with the VM installer glad I never succeeded now.
  23. Hi all, I am trying to install Sophos for Virtual Environments with Sophos Central, I download the application and go to install it and it asks about Security VM and Host VM. The Sophos installer has extracted files including Hyper-V disk images. I must be missing something, as I cannot find a decent guide on what I am supposed to be doing with any of this? Anyone know of a good installer guide? Thanks
  24. I had this, as BBC were wrongly identifying us as being outside the UK, had to contact BBC Iplayer support and get them to whitelist the schools public IP address.
