Hi all, How does everyone do a SIMS Backup test? As I have been asked if my daily sims backups have been tested lately but I have never done it as I assume we would need a spare server to do this? How would I go about checking this? I check my normal backups on a regular basis, but I havent specifically tested SIMS. Cheers Sean

Thanks for all the comments guys. When I moved in with my OH she had Sky, but we couldn't afford it anymore so we went with TalkTalk which was really reliable service, but we moved to the Cotswolds and went with BT (uh-oh). My dad has BT in Gloucestershire and he has had nothing but trouble with them.

Hi all, Just wanted some views on this issue I am having at home. Since moving house 9 months ago we moved from TalkTalk to BT as TalkTalk couldn't provide a service in our area and BT had a good deal going. Since going with BT, we have been having constant connection dropouts, I have continually contacted BT via the forum and directly. Its frustrating as whenever I contact BT directly asking them to look at the issue they say its the hub and they send me a new one. I have had 4 hubs in 9 months with BT. I have tried 2 of my own hubs in between and have told them that, but they dont listen. In October after going through the forum and speaking to a BT moderator, they got it sorted and all was good for 2 months, but since the beginning of December it has been terrible. What are your experiences with BT? Who do you think are a good reliable service? Or good prompt customer service at least? Has anyone managed to break their contract with their ISP because they cannot provide them with a reliable service that they are paying for? I know internet issues happen and can accept that its just it seems such hard work to talk to anyone and get things sorted and I am getting fed up with new hubs. Cheers Sean

Hi all, Tomorrow I am going to be replacing Backup Exec 2010 with 2015. With 2010 I have had issues with the media sets not overwriting or appending as it keeps asking for over-writable media. It got to a point that I have had to format the hard drive (we backup to 2TB Hard drives) each time, so that it would backup. Our backup procedure is: Daily (Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs), weekly/fortnightly (Friday Week 1, Week 2) and termly - full backups running at 11pm. How should the media set be setup? Any advice on this or just in general would be appreciated. Cheers

Morning all, Trying to get my head around an issue, where I have Google Chrome Enterprise installed via a GPO, it deploys fine. But for some users the program will not run and appears uninstalled. But if other users of the same group (be it student or staff) logon its fine. When I logon as a Admin the program is installed and runs fine also. Any ideas? Cheers

I have been connecting our Android tablets to Meraki System Manager. It has taken a while but I was hoping to break the back of them today. So I go to Google play download the Meraki System Manager Android App and install i then get: Profile provisioned: Please use the badged version of this app. The main app will now uninstall. I have also tried enrolling online using m.meraki.com but it sticks on 'registration complete, waiting for device to check in'. Am i missing something? Cheers

Hi all, This is an issue that is really bugging me as it seems to be intermittent, but I don't know if it is something I am doing wrong, missing, or it just is annoying. When I try to setup a Office365 email account through Office 2010 Outlook, now and again it will work, but majority of the time it just keeps asking for the password - i get two green ticks, but then it gets stuck. I have managed to get passed this occasionally by resetting the users password and recreating the account, but this time it is having none of it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all, I wonder if somebody can give me some advice. I am in the process of reducing the number of servers I have in the school (some are old and minimally used), moving things like Xibo, ABTutor onto one server rather than individual. On one such server I have glpi (0.83) and OCS on. I want to install the latest version of GLPI onto the new server and migrate the database. Can someone give me advice on the best way to do this or if you have done it the steps i need to take? Many thanks

Hi all, When I had a techie, I didnt need to worry about coding or web development. But now he has gone I am on my own, it is something I would like to learn. Can anyone recommend a good basic coding language and web development code to get me started? Cheers

For me it was reinstalling Backup Exec. Before half-term I couldn't find the license key, looked everywhere, spent ages and I am normally religious about organising license keys. So in the end went onto Symantec licensing portal (forgetting that Symantec and Veritas have split). The portal was on an old email address and I couldn't remember my password, so contacted Symantec and they changed my email account, but was reminded that Backup Exec is with Veritas. So tried Veritas portal, old email address on account - ahhhhh!!! Contacted Veritas and got them to change email account on their portal too, got on the licensing portal and ......... no Backup Exec license. Not happy but it was half-term and I had rooms to network and computers to image so left it, as it was on a 60 day trial. Anyway today I come in and think I need to get it sorted, so sit down and out of the blue remember that when I brought that version of Backup Exec we were a RM CC3 school. Go on to the RM website, licensing and low and behold - Backup Exec.

Don't you just hate when you have a problem you tackle with for ages, you don't get anywhere so you walk away. Then a couple of weeks later you decide to give it another go, then you realize the answer is so obvious you feel like a pillock? I'm happy, but thoroughly and utterly p**sed off!!!! Sorry don't know why I have posted this but felt like a rant.

My techie was really good with that sort of thing but we never got round to building a intranet. He left in the summer and they are not replacing him, but I am determined to build a intranet with timetables on. If I could speak to your techie, just to point me in the right direction really to get me started, I would really appreciate it?

I have used Command Reporter though it was a while ago. I started to create the intranet in sharepoint, will I need to scrap this in favour of another mean of creating it? Lets just say programming or web development, not one of my strong points.

Hi all, We have a someone working with the school in a advisory capacity. She gets her BT emails through outlook which are setup with the btinternet server settings. Her emails keep erroring out, I have explained its because of the school internet unable to access the BT email servers with those settings. But I have been asked to find a way around it, though I know removing the settings when shes in school and putting them back in when she leaves will not be an option, mainly as its alot of hassle for me. If I am being simple and missing something obvious, please let me know. It's more than possible. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers

Hi all, I am building a HTPC for use with LibreElec/Kodi and I am looking for a good DVB-S to use with it. Due to the case I brought: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008GBUHKI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I can't fit a card in the case so will need a USB DVB-S. These are the one I am looking at: PCTV 461e DVB-S2 Stick DVBSky S960 Are these ok? Has anyone got one of these? What has your experience been? Cheers
