  1. The crashes didn't happen over the summer, so I was wondering if it could be a bad port on a switch or network card in a PC that could cause an issue?
  2. The new or new server to us as it was from our sponsor, but everything about it is different from the old server nothing was carried over hardware wise. I just copied over the data. We run ESET anti-virus.
  3. Yeah the server doesn't reboot or anything it just stalls completely and I cant do anything with it. I can't mouse click, I can't access file shares nothing. All i can do it press and hold power switch.
  4. Hi guys, I need help. For a while I have been having an issue with our file server that we would have random server crashes. The server would just freeze up and I couldn't do anything. other than force shutdown and restart. This could happen a couple of days in a row other times it wouldn't happen a couple of weeks. Over the summer I changed to a another file server and moved all the files over to it, for more than a week everything has been fine, yesterday we had our first server crash on the new file server and today it has happened again. We have moved from a HP server - Server 2008 to a Dell server - Server 2012, I transferred the files over and it has been fine for over a week. There is nothing on the event viewer, virus and malware has been checked. I have reset all profiles. All i have left to check is if there is a problem with a switch or a PC ..... i just dont know what else to check!!! Any advice or help would be appreciated. Cheers
  5. Hi all, We are having a problem with SEN documents attached to a student when trying to view them from SIMS RDP. When we click on an IEP for example on a student profile, it either keeps asking us to save the document or it causes that staff members SIMS to hang. This works on locally installed SIMS on admin machines and opens the documents fine. Any help or ideas would be great
  6. Hi all, I am trying to find a way to hide the taskbar, in Windows 7 explorer. I have checked gpo's, but cant seem to find how to hide it. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers
  7. Thanks for the help guys. I have gone with Qustodio, i tried OpenDNS and wasnt happy with it. Qustodio seems really good, really impressed.
  8. Yeah its more the layout for another PC to run it on. I know that the spec doesn't have to be amazing though. I just wish it could be run on a raspberry pi it would solve the problem.
  9. Hi guys, I have setup the first PC for the kids to do their homework and though in the long term i would like to setup Sophos home UTM, we are unable due to finances. So i was wondering what people would recommend to filter the kids internet. I would like something that would allow me to monitor them from my computer, view their internet activity? I have looked at K9 Protection and OpenDNS both seem really good. Any recommendations? Cheers Sean
  10. *Head down shame* I'm blaming Friday Mate, I could hug you, but I wont dont worry. Cheers
  11. Thanks for the replies. The ABTutor monitoring only works with IE and I am trying to encourage the use of Chrome in school. What do you guys use for user monitoring? Cheers
  12. Hi all, We have been looking at the new user based filtering from SWGFL, I have been discussing this with SWGFL and our options and this is what I recieved from them. Please be aware that without user filtering you will not receive the user level usage reports that have become a requirement in the new Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance. Nor will you be providing age appropriate filtering Now I have checked the Keeping Children safe in Education revised for Sept 2016 and I see nothing regarding providing 'User level usage reports' all I have found is regarding 'appropriate filtering and monitoring'. At the moment we use SWGFL Safetynet for filtering and ABTutor for monitoring keywords etc. The school at the moment is also looking at a Sophos UTM, depending on funds, so do not want to commit to SWGFL UBF if we are getting the UTM, but I am looking at options which is why I am talking to SWGFL. What are others views on this? Are SWGFL just trying it on with their response? Or is there something in the Keeping Safe in Education guideline that I have missed? Thanks
  13. Hi all, I am setting up PRTG to monitor our printers, but I am having trouble. We have 3 models of Toshiba e-studio printers 262, 263 and 2040. SNMP availability on these printers is different, 262/263 - (SNMP - V1 & V3), 2040 - (SNMP - V1, V2 & V3). I have setup the printers to use SNMP V3, but still could not get it to work. Friday I found that the Context Names for the printers are different and I cannot change them. Does anyone know how I can get around this? Can i put in multiple context names in the PRTG SNMP printer monitor? Or can I use SNMP V2 and V3 at the same time? Or can anyone recommend an alternative monitoring system? To be honest it will mainly be used to monitor Printers, Servers and switches. Cheers
  14. Hi all, I am reviewing our Papercut setup, as at the moment we are using printer credits and have duplex and colour scripts and we do not chargeback (previous SLT would not allow this). I want to create a proposal for the new SLT on a new Papercut setup. Basically i would like to setup chargeback (department accounts for staff), etc. It would be really helpful if people could let me know how they setup there Papercut, and what they recommend? Cheers
  15. Hi guys, How does people handle forgotten passwords? At the moment we have around 2-3 students a day coming up to us with forgotten passwords, which is annoying enough, but if I am not here they cant do that. Does anyone know of any way of giving staff BASIC ways of resetting passwords for students? Cheers
  16. Yeah all original chargers and they are not plugged in.
  17. Windows 8.1 Pro x64. We have about 14 with this issue. We can use external mice with them, but this is not ideal. I have recently wiped a netbook, reinstalled a clean OS, downloaded all the latest drivers from the Acer website, but the issue is still there.
  18. Hi guys, We have got 30 of the Acer netbooks and we are having continuous issues with the touchpad either not working at all, freezing after a short period or freezing and locking up the keyboard and you have to close the lid reopen for the keyboard to work again and you have to avoid touching the pad. Has anyone had experience with these? Cheers
  19. Hi all, Thanks for the replies. dry - That is on my list for things to do/check Monday. DJ-101 - that was my thought. I have contacted them about it. I'm going to need a drink tonight!!!
  20. I never touched the admin network, so I dont know what the setup is on there. Ill need to look Monday. The networks are joined in such a way that allows them to share a printer, but that is it.
  21. Last night I completed a SWGFL router and modem swap/upgrade for one of our primary schools. I checked with the SWGFL engineer and all was OK on the curriculum side, until this morning when the school phoned me to let me know that their admin PCs cannot access the internet and they cannot print. I couldnt check the admin PCs last night as they has all gone home and I have never touched the admin side, so had no logins. The school runs on two separate networks Admin and Curriculum (I know its not my setup - inherited) and two separate IP scopes *.84 (curriculum) and *.149 (admin), the printers are setup on the admin IP range. By removing all static IP configuration from the admin PCs has enabled them to access the internet, but I didn't get round to the printers today as I couldn't leave my school for too long as my techie is away and there are interviews going on. I am going back Monday to sort! What could have caused this? Could the router have had a config setup for this? I am thinking the best cause of action is just to remove the admin network and move them all to one network. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  22. I like the look of the Moto. I am trying to avoid another Nokia/Windows phone as I wasn't very impressed by it, had nothing but trouble. Thanks for the recommendations.
  23. Hi all, After my Nokia Windows phone died in the middle of a 2 year contract, I am looking for a budget android phone to last till March next year. As I am on a tight budget I will be using Amazon vouchers I have received so wont be able to go above £60. Has anyone got any recommendations? I have looked at the Doogee X5 and Padgene S9? Any reviews or recommendations would be appreciated. Cheers
  24. Hi guys, Finally given up with my Nokia Lumia 735 Windows phone, had nothing but issues and I am about to throw it through a window, with a bomb attached to it. I have the phone on a 2 year contract from Virgin and my renewal is not until next March. So I was thinking of buying another phone off eBay/Amazon to keep me going for the time being, but would prefer to go back to Android if possible. So my question is, if I buy a unlocked Android and the SIM cards are the same size can I easily without issue put my SIM card from my Nokia (bluh!!) Lumia into a Android phone? Cheers
  25. Thanks both. We have got a Behringer Hum Destroyer, but this isn't helping. I think the problem is that, as when we switch off the power to the laptop charger there is no buzzing at all. Cheers Sean
