  1. Hi all, We haven't had a intranet in school for the last 6 years (everyone goes straight to google), but I would like to create a site that has the following: Students and Staff can see different items Link with AD Web links News board that can be set by group e.g. by student, staff, year group etc. IT Knowledgebase Subject links Papercut widget SIMS individual timetables if possible I know I dont want much. We have got Sharepoint though Office365, so I was thinking of using that, which would make sense, as I want to use more of it. Would that do everything or at least majority of what I want? I also need to create a Medical form, that the first aiders can fill in with what the accident was, what treatment was given etc, but also will allow me to create reports from it. Any recommendations? Cheers
  2. Its that time of year again, when I get in all staff laptops on a rota and check them over for anything nasty, run defrag and cleanup, ensure updates are running, anti-virus is still ok, make sure staff haven't put anything they shouldn't have on them. Last night I started to build up a USB of software to use for this I was thinking what software everyone else uses when checking over a PC or laptop or if anyone can recommend anything? Cheers

  4. PhilNeal - Thanks, I did see that but I couldn't see how to add, for example a Riddor checkbox to a medical event. So if a member of staff is adding a medical event they can select if that single event was an Riddor event or not? I can only see to add it to the main Medical panel within a Students details. Sorry am I making sense?
  5. Hi guys, I am being tasked with moving our medical records onto SIMS from an old Access database. But I notice that there are some things missing that we could really do with. For example whether the event was Riddor, if they were given treatment in school (e.g. paracetamol) or sent home etc. We could really do with extra fields for this. Is this something I can do or will I need to contact Capita? I also need to do this for Staff. Cheers
  6. Zag - That is basically my dream for my setup. What remote control do you use? I take it you would recommend Linux over a Window Kodi install?
  7. I have found out that only our telephone company (in this case South West Communications) can complete this task, unless I had been on the System Admin course - which I haven't.
  8. Hi all, I have been tasked with removing an option from our Alcatel auto-attendant options. When people phone up the school they are asked to choose from the following options blah blah ..... One of the option are no longer needed it is through a Alcatel-Lucent 4039 phone. Anyone know how I go about doing this? Many thanks Sean
  9. I must say I am leaning towards Plex, mainly for the android sync as we are getting the kids android tablets to use on long car journeys (the continuous "are we there yet?" is making me tempted to jump out of a moving vehicle ) and being able to have their media on them would make life so much easier. With Plex you have to pay a small amount for the extra features, in comparison with Kodi, is it worth it?
  10. Does Kodi or Plex come with Parental controls so that the kids (4 and 7) can only watch what is suitable for them.
  11. I always liked the way that MediaPortal and I know Kodi does it would download and give information and thumbnails for films and TV Series. Does Plex do this?
  12. Sorry meant to say - I will be running a windows PC.
  13. Hi all, I am building a home theatre PC, but I can't decide what HTPC software to use. I want to use it for freesat (buying a DVB-S tv tuner), DVD etc. I have heard good things about Kodi, I used MediaPortal a long long time ago, not sure how that has developed since though. Can anyone recommend anything? Cheers
  14. Hi all, I am interested to find out what other schools do regarding Youtube? Do you completely unblock or block and white-list videos on request? We are just setting up RMUnify and User based filtering with SWGFL, so trying to look at the best way to deal with it. Cheers

  16. I have checked and not its not. Its set to scan on File Open, File Creation, File Execution and Media to scan is local drives and removable media. So wondering if the Real-time protection is causing the server to meltdown. Have contacted ESET to see what they recommend. Edit: Haha found hidden setup in Real-time file system protection - Additional Threatsense for newly created and modified files - Runtime packets, self-extracting archives.
  17. Well it has been two days since disabling ESET Endpoint on the server and no crashes. Still watching and waiting!! Fingers crossed!!
  18. Congrats on that mate, nothing wrong with routine lol. Its my first, my partners third, im crapping myself shes taking it in her stride.
  19. Drugs, sex and .... i must be doing IT wrong lol. You get one thing sorted, then something else comes along and bites you on the backside. Don't get me wrong I love my job, just a bad week. On the plus side, its my partners 20 week scan today (reason im off work), find out if its a girl or boy - proud daddy!!
  20. The OS and data are on seperate drives. HPlum - Yeah good point. I think I am just frustrated by it all, so annoying.
  21. Forkies - That was a thought I had had, but tracking it down is going to be a bu**er. Was wondering if something like data deduplication would help? I have just read up on it. Trying to find a damaged file is going to be fun. I am off work today but I am watching the disk activity remotely.
  22. I need to check on the spindle info as we were given the server from our sponsor. But we are a small school of 320 students and about 150 PCs of which about 90 will be used at any one time. We have about 2TB of disks in RAID 10 on the server and about 850GB of data.
  23. No it only seems to happen during the day, when the files are being accessed. I was the only one in over the summer and it didnt happen then. I have disabled AV at the moment, so see how it goes. If it is the AV what would be the best way to get round it not locking the shares?
  24. 3S-GTECH - I have checked RAID and all seems well, I have checked the disks, temperature is fine. The new server is a different name and IP address. HPlum78 - No it was a lift and shift, I robocopied all the data over. Its not a SAN or anything, its just a file server. A Dell PowerEdge 2900 on RAID 10.
  25. No its quite random yesterday it was 3:30pm today it was 9:10am. Previously it was at different times of the day as well. I just have disabled ESET (dont like doing it) so will see how it goes?
