Got it sorted, was a Vista driver issue with WEP AES security, updated it fully and got it to look for an updated driver, it found one and all was well

Got a Sony Vaio laptop with Vista on it which I have just restored toits original state due to it not connecting to the internet and it still wont unless I stick a Lan cable in. It finds the wireless network, picks up the IP form DHCP connects, shows goo signal strength etc but wont connect to the internet. Tried pinging the router with the LAN cable and it returns OK but pinging the router via wireless gives a no reply from 192.168.0.21 which is the PC itself rather than no reply from the router address! (router is 192.168.0.1). Any ideas where to go next, thought a restore of the c: drive would sort any issue but alas no. Its as though wireless internet is being blocked over wireless but not LAN cable. No AV at moment, firewall off etc.

Just got Italc working here (Whoopee! took a a bit of doing) but anyway, as we have all our class (Primary) using the same class login I dont know whose screen image is whose? It only shows the logged in user at the top of each window. Can I get it to show the PC name instead?

Sophos.. again
TechSupp replied to Bluetooth's topic in Yorkshire & Humberside Grid for Learning (YHGfL)
Got the dreaded not updated since xxx here again. Got one uptodate with a restart of the Sophos Update Manager service but not the other. Just looking at the subscriptions what should I have selected? I have the 9.7 recommended selected but just noticed there are other 9.7.x etc versions listed below it? -
Yep had that with one teacher who was trying to save some work they had just done in class. Not seemed to have reappeared again so presumed it was off issue...or not as it may now seem!

Thanks for the replies, forgot about it having to vent outside which is a problem as the room is in the middle of the building and no windows! Anyway removed the window about the door to day to at least let the warm air generated vent. If thats not enough may just purchase a wall fan and point it at the servers to aid air flow and the space above the door will allow for air flow. Now to find a small wall mountable fan

Just having a look at trying to cool down our small server room (read small walk in store cupboard/area) and wondering if there is such a thing as a cheap portable small aircon unit we could plug in there?

But that misses the vital bit when Lewis in the first instance twitches his car towards Maldonado (which is why he probably got a ticking off for) and then Maldonado retaliated (silly boy). Hamilton not blameless in this at all but Maldonado was also wrong to retaliate. Hamiltion getting a habit of accusing others of hitting him delieratly, didnt he accuse Massa of driving in to him deliberately to take him out at Monaco (ah yes thats where he got a slapped wrist there as well and hit Maldonado).

Glad you had good experience with them, have mine (desire) through Tmobile and needed it repairing under warranty, they apparently use HTC for repair yet it took them 6 weeks (2 attempts) to sort it out.

Thats the one! Thanks, meant to bookmark it but forgot! No definate plans at the moment to purchase just pipe dreams for me and the wife. Window shopping as it were.

Hmm, didnt realise they played normal DVD's as well! Whole new can or worms, any good suggestions?

My Samsung home cinema DVD player just bit the dust (too costly to repair) so on the lookout for a new DVD player and recommendations. Not bothered abut the home cinema bits as room layout not suited to it and didnt use it much bit DVD player must have USB connection and ability to be able to play recorded videos from a memory stick. So many out there just dont know which to pick. Seen this one SAMSUNG DVD-H1080R DVD Player - rose black | Dixons | as its similar to the one we had and seems to do most things, any other suggestions to look at?

Picking up our new puppy on Sat, a Cav King Charles, 11 weeks old, daft as a brush, cute as they can be

Usually get the A101 (think thats the number), find them great and image brightness/quality seems to last OK...plus it has now got a big filter and at least shuts down when its blocked rather than just keeping going and overheating!

Maybe try that, firewall turned off, and no other one on it.

Bit stumped on this one what to try next so open to suggestions? Asked to connect an old PC up to the admin network (just a workgroup which uses the copier/printer which is set up on the curriculum domain network). All the other admin PC's work just fine printing and getting the internet this way. This old PC can see the other admin PC's, I can map and use drives on the office master PC but can for the life of me get it to browse or ping our curriculum server or get the internet! I can ping the other office PC's fine and the office printer. At the moment this PC is in an office with one office PC (which works and connects to everything it should) and one network point. Added a desktop switch and connected the PC to it so I know its connected to the right connection point in the cabinet as the other PC is fine. Removed and added the network card, added a separate card, changed its ip settings so that its used the same as the working on (obviously changed the working one to something else and that still works!), and kind of run out of ideas why it just wont see the curriculum side server or the gateway IP the admin use to get internet. Failing all else will have to reinstall the PC, not a preffered option, must be something stupid I've not checked or set surely?

Thanks for the suggestions, used Clonezilla in the end, created an image on a USB disk, will try and use it when I get to school tomorrow.

Got a few W7 laptops to setup, whats the best (read free) way to image them as they have multiple partitions. Going to image to an external USB HD. Usually use Partimage but only ever used this on single partition XP images and not sure how it would work doing it with W7 with multiple partitions (unless anyone could enlighten me). Probably a better option. Need quick and free options as its to se them up before Friday and I'm only in for two half days at thise schools. Got one set up how I want it as the base image, just need to image but what with (and any gotchas with W7 imaging!)
-
Given you some Rep for that
-
Well done, had Helium Frog running on my W7 netbook no problems (not your modified version though). Just starting to look at other software.
-
Had a similar thing but just on some netbooks I was imaging, image worked fine but just got flashing cursor, turned out I need to change the flag on the partition to make it a boot one, restarted and it was fine afterwards. (did have an isse with creating partitions to image to, used Gparted and the version was forcing me to have a 1mb space at the start, could not get around that and that stopped it booting. Used an earlier version of Gparted and that was fine).
-
Thanks for the replies, will probably just encrypt afterwards to be on safe side. Not enough time to back track if it does not work! Usual case of new laptops ordered at last minute yet teachers want them for summer working!
-
Thanks, have just set it so will see.
