  1. No manual on the site but if you google for one its in the downlads section and does exist, all 20 pages of a network install which I would have read. Anyway just remoted in to the server and I think it should be sorted now, changed the paths to the same location and hey presto can see the correct dat file being created and the msi being recreated (just needed to run the Network Setup file that was installed). Unfortunately thats as far as I can go at the moment as for some reason cant start a remote session on one of the PC's someone kindly did not turn off! Ah well thats a Monday job but confident it should work now.
  2. Would have done if it was there to read in the first place! Ended up googling for it. As said the install is pretty straight forward and quick, just not quite clear on the locatiin point and it did not name the dat file. Anyway presume you have never done anything like that? I admit I make mistakes, (usualy trying to please too many people by doing too many jobs in too little time) just glad there are sensible people on here like FN-GM willing to offer help me get things back on track.
  3. did the location for the registration dat file have to be the same location when you have to specify the path relative to the server and relative to the client? If it does...think I solved my problem! Ah! Just read a network install doc I just googled and it does so think thats my problem, now presume I need to re-install on the server to reset the two paths to be the same location so it re-creates the msi file?
  4. Anyone tried to set StopMotionPro Animation software up on their network?
  5. Yes ours is the same, when I get the chance I will be doing the very same job, here they can't even put the net books in to the right numbered holder Never mind plug them in or sort out cables.
  6. Save yourself the bother and just ditch the software, its hopeless. Use the cameras and then get the files off by using it as a storage device and use Movie Maker, Helium Frog, etc etc.
  7. Can anyone tell me the setting and its location that allows me to have full access to profiles when they are created. At the moment its not set and I find it a fiddle to go change permissions and ownership etc to get in and change things if needed. I know it can be done by default but dont know where or what the setting is.
  8. Looking at tablets and connection to the internet, we use the LA's proxy settings, no user login just an ip and a port. Read on here of others with issues over connection of android tablets, and using espresso a a proxy, would i have to set our old espresso box up as a proxy to allow connection? Getting slightly confussed?
  9. Yes, we have that! Did ask on here ages ago but never found an answer. Installed iTalc since and just shut everything down with that but would love to sort it out.
  10. Well we are arranging Toshiba to come and demo the tablets along with their management facilities for apps so getting on the net will be the first job, if it cant then it will a short demo and home early if they can through our network then all well and good.
  11. Looking at possibly buying some Toshiba AT100 (think thats the model) tablets but just thinking, can you access the internet via a proxy server with these as I know my android phine does not allow proxy settings.
  12. Well maybe I spoke too soon, works absoluetly fine on the server, service running fine, start viewpoint and a database shows up with the server name in it title bar showing its a multiuser database but....started from a client its just the single user access to the database, one can edit but everyone else is read only :-( Will give support a call later. Thanks for your help anyway, got it working so far, cant be too much worng.
  13. Well tried that and it didnt work, just same message, even went as far as changing the reg entry so it pointed to the new lcation. Will have to have a word with the developers and see what they say. Meanwhile how an I uninstall the service till I find out whats happening? Edit: Well I take it all back (gulp!), changed the location in the reg to an absolute specific location i.e. full path and hey presto it starts :-)
  14. Hit the nail on the head, thats our setup. Will look for that folder and try it.
  15. Trying to get the multi user service for Junior Viewpoint (database program) to run on our new 2008 server. Installed and ran fine on the 2003 server. The install just copies an exe and a dll to the system32 folder and then runs the install command for the service. The problem is it has installed the service as I can now see it in the list of services but can I as heck get it to run. It just fails with Error 2, the system cannot find the file specified. Lood for the file and its there, checkd the service properties and it lists it as being the correct file to run and the correct location. Must be missing something somehwere that hgas changed since server 2003 as we just ran the supplied batch file then and it worked. Have rebooted the server in case that was anything but still no joy.
  16. School is looking at buying multiple android based tablets, anyone know how we could manage them as far as installing apps, locking them down etc?
  17. Thanks, will look at that later, will check the folder read only properties rather than the shortcut properties.
  18. Yes thats it, desktop is redirected to a shared folder so i can quickly add or remove shortcuts for everyone. Made all the shortcuts readonly attrib but when i change a shortcut on a client it just warns me its a read only and says do you really want to change a read only file, say yes, and short cut changed!
  19. Would have thought a projector of that age it was not worth it. be better just getting a better new one with a three year bulb warranty. sods law says repair it for £150 then shortly after bulb goes then you would have to throw anothe 100 or so pounds at it, just not worth it.
  20. Got a global desktop set up on network and just found some of the shortcut names have been changed so looking at the security settings of the desktop share. All apart from domain\administrator, administror and system have write denied already set yet I can still edit a shortcut name on a client logged on? The users have local admin status(dont go down that route, long story!) so is that the issue or is there something else I should check? Sure we used to have it sorted before the new server was intalled last year and it was all moved over.
  21. Yes i got a large print of my dog which I also just happened to have on my memory stick Got school pencil, compass etc set from casio for daughter and the free board game she now wants to play so not bad.
  22. Thanks, usefull info that. Checked out from clients and evertything now up and running again phew!
  23. Whooooooooooo! Thats a good start to the day, changed the time and Bam...Bingo! It works! Many thanks glannda!
  24. Right done that and here are the scores on the doors, said it created the record sucessfully, opened a cmd window and can ping the old server by name and ip, can browse a share folder on the old server but \\ip address\folder but nbot by \\name\folder Any ideas, tried on a client and the same. Should I need to reboot or anything or is there anything else I need to do? Think I just spotted the error, its saying its clock is out of sync with the main server (notr slowing up to read error messages properly!) Going to just reset the time manually but how do I get it to sync up?
  25. Next question...do i tick the box to create a pointer PTR record and allow any authenticated user to update? Srry for the dumb questions but never messed with DNS before and it needs doing now rather than when I have the time to look at it a bit more as usual. Relies really appreciated.
