It's a shame your not using MDT as you can launch a MDT sequence from windows by going to the share and executing litetouch.wsf. You could do this on multiple computers using psexec or something like that.

We use WDS for PXE services and from this menu we can pick our MDT images or one of many utilities both DOS and Linux. It just involves changing a few files on your WDS server. WDSLINUX - Syslinux Wiki There are a few posts about it on here, can look daunting at first but I can supply you with the configs if you need.

We just use DBAN via PXE.

Thanks, my title is a bit misleading but I was actually after the method people use to to enter a KS2 level and calculate a GCSE target based on 3 or 4 levels of progress. I think my stated method is going to work for us okay but if anyone has any better ideas I am open to them.

Yes they will require configuration because at the default configuration, all ports will be in the same VLAN. For this solution to work I am assuming that the traffic is being passed from that router or lan extension thingymebob with it's VLAN tag added. If this frame hits a port that is not configured to receive traffic from multiple VLANs (a trunk port) it will be dropped or just wont reach its intended destination. The lack of ports complicates matters hence their 2 suggestions, I do however think that these days you should be operating on a single domain with the necessary security and multiple VLANs/subnets for traffic control and security, but this would depend on the size of your network and would require routers or layer 3 switches. Okay I misread the equipment list slightly but yes you will need a switch configured with VLANs at each end. Port 1 Trunk from the router or LAN extension at the other end. Port 2 Admin VLAN uplink to rest of network. Port 3 Curriculum VLAN uplink to rest of network. You will need to configure the switches but I can give you a config if you let me know what ports you are using (assuming Cisco).

According to what they are saying the "LAN extension device" must be capable of carrying tagged traffic for both VLANs else they wouldn't suggest the two 8 port switches. Assuming some of your switches have ports in both VLANs at the moment you would just need to replicate the configuration of your uplink from that switch to another port that would connect to the "LAN extension device" so Site 1 Existing Switch with Trunk Port > "LAN extension device" > Site 2 Existing Switch with Trunk Port The port config on the switch would be something like interface gi01/1 switchport mode trunk exit You would just need to make sure your switches fabric at either side were up to carrying the extra traffic else new switches.

If the equipment either end of this supports it, it just needs to be a trunk port so it carries both VLANs tagged, or I suppose one port of a switch either end could be the trunk that this "link" connects to. As you want to keep the traffic separate, you would not need to worry about a router or a layer 3 switch at each end. What will be the connection device at either end ?

I'm looking at the best way of calculating our KS2-4 levels of progress for targets, I have done a template in the past but it didn't get used and now it's time to create another one. Basically I was thinking a template doing the following. KS2 points + 12 > conversion to GCSE grade + 6 (or 12) > Marks to grade (GCSE). I thought it best to add the 2 levels at KS3 so the low ability would get onto the conversion scale. Using the following conversion: GCSE Grade A* A B C D E F G Notional level 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 I was just after examples of how other people do it, is there an easier way in SIMS? Are my figures completely off ?

If the PC is not working through the phone then it will be down to the VLAN settings on your switch. The port will need to be in both VLANs so this usually means tagged in the Voice VLAN and untagged in the VLAN for the computer. That is how ours are all setup, you may also need some configuration on your DHCP server as well.

I use the pass through in some offices with only one connection, it's fine as long as you don't need a gig link or anything.

In that case the recipe in that book will help you use MDT to automate the build of a reference image. I have used hyper-v, VMware and virtual box to make images, they are all as good as each other pretty much but my only tip would be to avoid installing the tool sets on some of them and extract the drivers from them to use on your VM.

It's worth the time to learn MDT to help you. This book Deployment Fundamentals, Vol. 3: Deploying Windows 7 Using System Center Configuration Manager 2007 eBook: Chris Nackers, Mikael Nyström, Johan Arwidmark: Amazon.co.uk: Books is well worth the purchase at that price as it will basically tell you how to do it from scratch with some good custom scripts etc. Don't worry about it talking about SCCM as that is just the later chapters, just concentrate on the parts about making the reference image.

There will either be something very small somewhere stopping it or a part somewhere is too loose or something so it thinks there is a paper jam.

Probably had it for 2 years of regular use, if people have had issues with them I would imagine they are using them for too long as like all compressors etc they do have a duty cycle of how long you should use them for.

We have one of these as well, it's all you need, too powerful and you will end up damaging something.

They would probably use you for everything apart from the patch panel end although mostly it will just be pulling the cables. There are lots of things to consider though, working at heights, awareness of electrical cables etc.

Like you say I would just add a key for reference somewhere like HKLM\system\setup. Make sure you train them well as most of those Huskies/Malamute beasts I come across seem to be completely psychotic, as they obviously don't get the attention or training they need.
