We needed to do something similar once. A teacher got some students to do it on a PC. Could be a modern day replacement for lines

Does it do the same on different projectors? Can you output on a hdmi port to see if this acts differently? Have you tried reinstalling the graphics driver? If none of these ideas help I would say it is a dodgy vga port.

Can I use word? Shall I bring my modem in?

I would guess the laptop is finished. I've had different models doing almost a similar thing and never found out what it was. As a last ditch effort you could try reseating the cpu, that would be my best guess, otherwise it must be a motherboard problem I would have thought.

Would be a pain depending on how often the community and open evening events were, but could you not use cheap keyboards during the school day and then replace with the nice ones when needed?

Never heard of anything like this, but would be interested if anyone knows of anything out there. You could just buy some cheap white PC keyboards. If they are going to wreck them regardless, it might as well be cheaply replaceable. We run Windows on our imacs so a PC keyboard can do the job, but not sure if there could be a key issue if you're using the mac os.

Well it seems that replacing the PSU in a PC that is intermittantly failing to boot solves the problem. It has worked 8 times out of 9 with 1 exception. Whether these PSU's will continue to work for the long term remains to be seen. Just as a note, the original PSU's were rev3 and the replacement ones are rev4 (the one exception that needed replacing was also a rev4). When the fault occurs it makes it look like the MB is at fault and that is where the confusion was originally, but I believe the PSU is doing something to the MB. When the power has discharged from a MB that has been affected, it is usually ok again. Also another note on this system, I don't know if it is related or not, but we were using a microsoft driver for the graphics. There were reports that some of the PC's were crashing with display issues and then shutting down. Then when you tried to boot back up, you got the usual fan noise as originally described. Changing to the graphics driver supplied by Fujitsu seems to have fixed this.

The interferrence is probably coming from the active usb. Try unplugging the usb for a second and see if it goes. We also found that there is also interferrence noise on the audio cable as well (again caused because we have to use the active usb). We are using the HDMI for video and sound so this cuts out that problem as the interferrence isn't affecting this interface. Yes we use the Smart Notebook, and also had the same problem. What you can do is launch notebook, go to the view menu and choose transparent background. It kind of gives you something similar. It looks like the normal ink layer you use on the smartboard is integrated into the smart driver which of course you can't use. Also found for us that we couldn't use the active usb in conjunction with a faceplate, so we have the TL550's usb tail cable connected to one 5m active usb going straight to the laptop. With this set-up the touch facility is perfect.

I know my boss had trouble with performance on the sims server for a while. In the end it turned out to be where he had taken a number of snapshots on the VM and it started slowing it all down. The answer was to merge them all back in to one I think, which was a slow process. Sorry if this has been suggested already. I don't work on servers so don't fully understand what has been said already.

Were there any changes 4 months ago that might have caused this? When in the day does the issue occur? Can you monitor the dat file and see when it develops the fault and then check event logs to see what else is going on?

You might find the setting is in the "C:\users\default" folder somewhere seeing as it reverts back after profile deletion. If you have an older image, you can try copying the default folder over the top of this one (or rename it first). May not be easy though it you have loads to PC's to cover.

This is probably not the case, but I use to find this if the paper was ultra thin. Also check firmware updates for the printer in case the fuser is getting too hot.

You only have 5, but still good to know. If you've never seen this particular problem in 3+ years you are either lucky or we have something different about our build or the parts inside. I don't think this problem is widespread, otherwise surely a lot more people would be out there complaining.

TechSupp how many E3521's have you got and how long have you had them?

Yes we brought extra memory with the original PC order that we inserted ourselves, has this got something to do with it?

Bump, These PC's are getting worst with age. I've worked out that it is almost certainly something to do with the PSU, but new replacement PSU's doesn't seem to 100% solve it. Anyone else suffering with these that can share any knowledge?

Bump! Anyone else experiencing this issue yet with Fujitsu Esprimo E3521's. To recap, on powering the PC on you hear a loud fan noise and the PC fails to boot. The problem is spreading to more and more PC's as time goes by. We can practically stop the problem by powering off the PSU's on the PC's at the end of the day manually and turning them on again in the morning, but this is a real PITA. At the moment we have to do this to ensure a full working room each morning. We've received some replacement PSU's from Fujitsu support, as this seems to fix the issue except for the odd one. It's the odd one which is throwing me and making me think its not the full answer. In fact this particular odd one crashed whilst already booted and showed coloured stripes on the screen (like a graphics issue, but it's onboard graphics). After powering it off you attempt to power it on and it's back to square one with the high fan noise on boot. This PC has now had 2 x PSU's and 2 x MB's replaced.

I played one of the first versions of cm in my youth (cm2 i think). I played it to death. Would get food and hurry back to the PC and then play it until my head started nodding, very sad I know. Went through so many seasons until eventually players wouldn't sign contracts because beyond 2 or 3 years didn't exist in the game. Also had so much money that the game crashed when i got past a certain amount. Had to restore my saved games to spend the money but couldn't because of the first reason i gave. There was also a bug in the game (later fixed), which meant when another team approached me to become their manager it would automatically accept for me. That was really annoying. A good game though. I dont have enough time to scratch my a*se these days.

I've had random results like this with a dodgy vga cable. Trying swap testing the vga coming out of the PC.

I also agree with the last post. The lamps were fine when there were no problems, but when we had an issue they were terrible. Long delays, lamps sent back to France at our expense (not cheap), when you spoke to them they didn't give a sh*t. Their UK location is just along the road from us, but i think it's just a store where they sent out lamps from. I now use a company called Wallis, good prices, brillant support when things go wrong and free chocolate with orders

You would need to use hdmi with it though to stop the interferrence.

Look on the ebuyer site for sanberg active usb 5m. You should be able to buy a couple and link them together.

Had three projectors go like this in the last year. All were DLP projectors and none of them even made it to a bulb change. Either bad luck or just DLP's for you?

Just an update in case anyone stumbles across the same situation. This is in relation to our TL550 that has the teachers desk around 5 meters away. We needed to use a active USB because of the distance, some active USB's didn't work and caused a jumpy cursor. One that did work was a Sanberg version. The mouse pointer is fine, but you then get interferrence on the screen if you are using it in conjunction with a normal VGA cable. Support advised that the VGA cable was not well shielded enough, but I brought a double shielded VGA cable with ferrit cores at both ends and the results were the same. We've had to reluctently move to using a HDMI cable instead as a sensible solution can't be found.
