  1. We're mainly an Extreme (Aerohive) trust. Really easy to set up and manage, never had an issue. We're using it in a couple of secondary schools 1200+ students and a primary. I'm also managing some of my other branded switches (HP, Dell and Cisco) that I've inherited with the same Extreme Cloud IQ dashboard. It's really slick. I can back up my switches running config with a few clicks and even created network maps with real-time VLAN mapping. Went out to test the market last year and Extreme was cheaper than Meraki and Ruckus by quite a bit. They were a little bit cheaper than Aruba.
  2. We're planning on using Extreme Networks for this. A few of our other schools are already using Extreme anyway - transferable licensing between devices, so if we want to upgrade APs / switches within the license period it's simple. Plus unlike one of our schools that went Meraki, once the licenses expired the switches stopped working. Not a nice thing to discover on a Monday. Generally been cheaper than Ruckus, Meraki and Aruba on pricing. Plus I can manage my other Dell, HP and Cisco switches from a single dashboard within their XIQ platform.
  3. Thanks for your response Paul. Much appreciated.
  4. Hi Paul, please can you elaborate on the edge that Lightspeed has on Chromebooks? We're a very Chromebook heavy Trust and trying to decide between the two.
  5. I would also like to know. Can I buy cheap consumer grade SSDs. Does it matter if I'm a RAID?
  6. I might be interested, based in Bedford... Do you know roughly the cost if only 10 places were filled? That way I can budget for the worst...
  7. I'm about to enable dedupe on my file server. Apart from compressed files, SQL and Exchange DB files. What other file types would you recommend excluding? I found one list but it was pretty much everything, which seems to defeat the purpose. It included pretty much all MS Office extensions... aac,aif,aiff,asf,asx,au,avi,flac,m3u,mid,midi,mov,mp1,mp2,mp3,mp4,mpa,mpe,mpeg,mpeg2,mpeg3,mpg,ogg,qt,qtw,ram,rm,rmi,rmvb,snd,swf,vob,wav,wax,wma,wmv,wvxaccdb,accde,accdr,accdt,docm,docx,dotm,dotx,pptm,potm,potx,ppam,ppsx,pptx,sldx,sldm,thmx,xlsx,xlsm,xltx,xltm,xlsb,xlam,xllace,arc,arj,bhx,bz2,cab,gz,gzip,hpk,hqx,jar,lha,lzh,lzx,pak,pit,rar,sea,sit,sqz,tgz,uu,uue,z,zip,zoo,edb,jrs Can I include Office files in my dedupe? Thanks
  8. Are there any files types you should exclude from dedupe? i know about SQL and Exchange databases but any file like .zip etc?
  9. That’s great. I was thinking when I created the rule “no one will ever type encrypted in the subject line unless they want to encrypt the email”.
  10. I'm having the same issue! You don't have permission to view this message This message is protected and you don't have permission to view it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
  11. We're also looking at Satswana. I think that we've got a meeting with them soon to discuss, so I'll try and remember to update this thread with my experience.
  12. I too would be interested in a ballpark figure Also... what is SNLM?
  13. Fair enough. But at least you can honestly say you did everything you could’ve.
  14. Thanks for this! I have question though... Why don't you need to implement this?
  15. I just had a quote from JANET and it was astronomical! Almost as much as we pay county but without the AV and Filtering! Does anyone else have any suggestion?
  16. Aerohive had free bee's that you could get. My little girl loves hers.
  17. Thanks for your reply! Do you have any more info please on Selective Sync (first i've heard of it). Also do you have a copy of your policies or can you tell me what your agreement is when it comes to breakages and lost laptops. Thanks
  18. Hi all, We're planning on deploying laptops to staff in the near future. What do you guys recommend? Do we keep them as domain joined devices or not? Also what policies do you have for laptop usage and how do you handle insurance, breakages and repeat breakage offenders. So far my plan is... deploy non-domain joined laptops with BitLocker and a local group policy set, using Forticlient (we have fortinet firewall) to provide web filtering, AV and Vulnerability scanning. Use either inTune or something you suggest for MDM. How do you guys allow access in to your network? VPN or RemoteApps or something else? If something else; can you perhaps point me in the direction of a good guide/tutorial. I look forward to hearing your ideas and would like to thank you for taking the time to read this!
  19. Hi Gareth, You can download the maps and use them offline for navigation, that's not a problem. Also from June a new EU legislation comes in to action that will allow you to use your minutes, text and data allowance within Europe for no extra cost! EU all set for free roaming from June - Consilium Hope that helps. Ant
  20. Thanks for the script Imgtfy! Does any one else know of another way of doing this please? Thanks.
  21. Gutted that I missed this offer! Will you be doing it again as I want to go with NetSupport! Thanks, Cola
  22. Thanks for doing this! Very good work. I would also like a copy of the word doc to browse. Thanks.
  23. Hoping someone here can help me... So I'm trying to set up and application whitelist using SRP and I can't get Softlink Alice to run even though i've allowed the UNC path to the .exe and even added a hash for it. I've successfully whitelisted other apps on UNC paths but can't get Alice to work. it will launch the initial loading screen but then nothing. I'm wondering if it calls a script/file on the users PC during launch that is blocked. Thanks
  24. Hi Steve, Thanks for your reply! That's exactly how I felt about the situation. There isn't an easy/clean way to facilitate this. Thanks, Cola
  25. Hello, One of our teachers has purchased a service, obviously without consulting us. I know! The instructions are as follows: 1. Ask your IT guys to set you up ONE email account for your whole cohort called 'markup@ SCHOOLEMAIL ADDRESS'. eg '[email protected]'. Please do this asap and send us the address. We can then generate a pass word. This should be an email address that can both send to and receive from [email protected] 2. ALL students should use this email address when submitting their answers and not their personal addresses or their individual school addresses - that way we do not know their name from their email address, only the school they are from. 3. When students answer their questions, they should just write their number and their school in the 'name' box. Eg Fictitious School 1. This means that again, the markers do not know their name. My question is. How would you go about doing this sensibly? It needs to be done for about 20 students. It just feels like a massive pain in the neck. Thanks, Cola
