  1. I agree! I'm an Apple user (iphone, ipad x2, macbook pro) but I can't understand the justification for 1 department to spend over £2000 on an idea that because we've got a new wireless system they suddenly NEED iPads to work efficiently.
  2. The HOD wants them for her staff. So they can fill in progress sheets and other stuff apparently...
  3. Thanks for the replies guys! We currently don't have any laptops in our school (bonus), because our Business Manager thinks that they're too fragile and the amount of support time spent on them can be huge. I agree with that. I just worry that iPads are going to be the next big pain in the backside.
  4. Hey guys, Our ICT department keep asking for iPads for ICT teaching staff. I've got a meeting about this today at 11 and want to know if Anyone has had a similar request? What were their reasons for wanting them Pros/Cons from a school/IT management perspective I can't see what benefit an iPad brings over having the PC in the room already that justifies a £300 - £400 price tag. Thanks, Ant
  5. Wouldn't the username/password for the VPN/Team Viewer, then the password for the Windows login, then the password for SIMS login be enough authentication?
  6. We've got McAfee but it didn't seem to detect it! What's everyone else using?
  7. Well I think we had it in November originally. But have had a couple of cases since!
  8. We've had the same thing. If you look at the security settings on the shortcut it tells you which user created them. Usually the user who downloaded / opened the virus.
  9. Well I don't want to get in to an arguement about anything but without knowing our contract details with them (business managers arrangement) I think it unfair to right them off due to using compatibles. For all I know we might of signed a contract that didn't specify originals or was agreed that to meet a price point they might supply compatibles on occasion. After looking at my stock I would say 85% of it is original.
  10. Whoa!! I wouldn't black list them! Their support is great and if we do need an engineer we get one next day but often sameday. Plus after speaking to my account manager he has assured me that we will only be getting originals from now on!
  11. The company we use are called AltoDigital. Their support is great but they are supplying us with "compatible" toners at the moment.
  12. We've got the exact same problem! Plus the printer says its "adding toner" after every 3-5 sheets!
  13. Okay so what I had to do was set Unknown ID Job to "Permit" on the printer itself. I logged in to the User Logging/Job Accounting using the default Admin username (Admin) and password (Admin). Hopefully this will help you until Kyocera get their drivers sorted out.
  14. *bump* We are also having the same problem. Solutions please! We are trying to turn off job accounting but it's not having that either!
  15. Hi guys, I am also thinking of deploying Lync. Andrew: What are the specs for the server you have Lync running on because according to MS they look ridiculously high and out of my budget range atm. Thanks
  16. Okay no problem. It was a bit late last night. The script actually copies a working folder across. For example the one created with your local admin login. *VBS SCRIPT* On Error Resume Next ' Use the CreateObject class to initiate the File System Objects Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") ' Designate file for the File System Object If Not objFSO.FolderExists("u:\Application Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS6\") Then objFSO.CopyFolder "\\SERVERNAME\FOLDER\Dreamweaver CS6", "u:\Application Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS6", True End If *END OF VBS SCRIPT* Hope that helps!
  17. In the app data folder the Dreamweaver folder is not being created for some reason. Dreamweaver can't create it, so we made a script that looked for the Dreamweaver folder in app data and if it wasn't there, created it. This solved the problem for us.
  18. I think it's important to note what PICNIC said. If your asset tag ends: B4J then it is likely that your laptops are from a batch with faulty hinges. That could be a point for contention with the support guys in India or your account managers.
  19. Ours end in B4J!! I had never noticed that before. Thanks Picnic, thats excellent detective work. I love EduGeek members.
  20. Thanks for your replies gentlemen. I have since called Dell back and I got through to another guy you explained that it was a known manufacturing fault in a certain period. It explains why some of the same model we brought 6 months after have been fine. It will be replaced under warranty!! I have also been through my records and this is now the 8th hinge repair we have needed and had under warranty. My advice is to not give up and argue the point. If all else fails contact your Dell account managers (If you can ever get through to them!)
  21. Hi Guys, I'm relatively new at posting on here. I have been a member for a few years and have always found the information helpful. Hopefully it's now time to return the favour. I work in an upper school with roughly 1400 students. We have around 150 staff members and roughly 50 of them have Dell E5500's. We have had about 6 of these suffer from hinge breakages. The cause? The screws that hold the hinges together come loose over time (teachers opening and closing the lid every lesson when moving rooms) the hinges then start to flex, then snap. The only thing holding the screen to the body is the plastics. Within a few days the plastics also break. We contacted Dell's "fantastic" customer support and they told us it was misuse and the laptop must've been dropped. After an arguement and sending them photos they agreed to repair it under warranty. We have now had 6 repaired under warranty, still having to send photos every time despite previous case references etc. However today I rang up with the same issue and was told that the warranty no longer covered this and that it was 'wear and tear'!!! We can pay for it to be fixed etc... My question is... 1. Has anyone else had this issue with Dell E5500's 2. Does anyone know how we can go about getting this recognised as a manufacturing fault? I'm hoping that we can get a list together of schools that have had this problem and hopefully get Dell to see that this is a problem and perhaps even set up an extended warranty for this fault! Thanks for your help.
  22. If you are running Windows server 2008 R2 edition or 2003 but with Group Policy manager installed on a Windows 7 PC then you can find this policy in Group Policy editor and it will take effect for your Windows 7 machines. Computer Configuration, Policies, Administrative Templates, Network, Network Connections, Do not show the "local access only" network icon Select this to enabled. Logoff and on and this will make the yellow exclamation icon disappear. Hope this helps, Anton
