  1. use a policy restriction. User configuration, Policies, Windows Settings, Security Settings, Software Restriction, Additional, Add a new Hash Rule. Hope This Helps
  2. I would agree terminal server. or Have you considered appV. As in Terminal APPv
  3. Absolutely correct if you use a very week passphrase that’s easily calculated e.g. a word. Then it’s just as easy to gain access as wep. Put a number in there and it will take considerably longer.
  4. Yes WEP is very easy to hack but can take up 2 15 minuits. WPA and WPA2 if not being used is impossible to gain access. However If you have lots of had shake request and a very fast computer you can easily gain access within 5 minuits. (i have done this) I would still recommend WPA2. As its much harder to do. To be totally honest i wouldnt transfer mision critical secure data over wireless anyway.
  5. You would create a new offline address book and on Database Managment right click the apropriate Database on the Client Settings tab select the Appropriate Offline address book. This should point you in the right direction. Hope this helps.
  6. I have done. They state there is nothing we can do and they are looking at upgrading us. However they are tendering for a new EDIT in January so cannot advise me anymore till they know what they are doing. In January they are starting a trial to push out 100mb lines. However this could be a 2 year role out plan.
  7. Bit of an unfair test as remember our students are using it. however even if i run the test at 5pm. we still only get about 6mb each way. not good for 700 pc's 100 laptops...
  8. If you are a school i presume you do volume licensing. You will automatically be eligible for upgrades. Also if you are a TechNet member you can download trail software.
  9. Im with you. very slow results: http://www.speedtest.net/result/646215779.png this is on a 10MB EMBC line
  10. WPA2 is the most secure out of any. WPA2 and WPA is easy to hack if many users connect and disconnect. (can not be hacked when no inactivity) WEP takes the longest to hack (but can be done when no ones using it) Out of any i would choose WPA2 (with a random word / numbers)
  11. we do exactly the same. the sims slg. not very nice and takes a long time to setup. but it meets criteria.
  12. I am currently running Office 2010 Beta. as we are Microsoft volume license customers and TechNet members. It’s very nice. Loads much faster. Outlook looks slightly different and has a few nice features. Licensing is the same as office 2007. link to some photos of office 2010 Office 2010 - Advanced IT Services Forum
  13. If that were the case how could you install the first 2008 domain controller? You would have to install 2008 server add it to the domain as a domain controller this would involve upgrading the forest and upgrading domain. Domain prep tools. once that one is installed you can gradually go round replacing the remaining dc's. However once one is installed it will automatically upgrade the adm files to admx. Hope this helps Phil
  14. You can do an inline upgrade from 2003 to 2008. (im not really a fan of doing this) And I certainly wouldn’t try it for DC's.
  15. It might make sense to optimize the server memory usage. The /3GB switch works for all version of Windows Server 2003, but you should use it only when runnin Enterprise or Datacenter edition. Standard Edition can allocate to user-mode application at most 2GB.If the /3GB switch is used in the Boot.ini file, then the privileged-mode kernel is restricted to 1GB of addressable memory without the corresponding increase of user-mode applications. This effectively means 1GB of address space lost However i am not sure that SQL baring in mind its hevily integrated within windows would benefit from this.
  16. Using a program called ERD commandor I believe its been bought out my microsoft and is now called: Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack. (boot from the cd)
  17. Profile Broken. (windows 7 bug) With group policy restrictions a user using the short cut keys can change the display to high contrast but the shortcut keys dont change it back.
  18. A move straight to 2010 would be advisable. however i would vastly increae the ammonth of ram required. Exchange 2010 server role Multiple roles (combinations of Hub Transport, Client Access, and Mailbox server roles) 10 GB 10 GB plus 3-30MB per mailbox (4 core server) 14 GB plus 3-30MB per mailbox (8 core server) I would also seriously inspect hard drive configuration and mail database setup.
  19. To clarify, you have to build a new server and move the mailboxes. You cannot do an in-place upgrade, but 2010 will co-exist with SP2 perfectly fine. However one thing to note. You really need a 2008 domain controller (2003 still works) just 2008 is more efficient and outlook connectivity is vastly improved.
  20. i was mearly hoping netstat would 100% identify that machine being the culpriate incase any spoofing was going on. have you ever come across the command fuser. I am not sure if there is a in built windows command but a program like this would certainly give you the answer. from the website: "This is mostly for own use, but: If you've ever had a server which netstat showed was listening on one or more ports you weren't expecting, you can use this command to find out which process is listening there: fuser -vn tcp 4444 Which in this case happens to be owned by JBoss, and not some linux version of a windows worm:) For more info on fuser, check out the man page, or the simple help below: Usage: fuser [ -a | -s | -c ] [ -n SPACE ] [ -SIGNAL ] [ -kimuv ] NAME... [ - ] [ -n SPACE ] [ -SIGNAL ] [ -kimuv ] NAME... etc website How to identify the process listening on a port | Devon Hillard Tech Blog "
  21. The only time i have ever hit problmes is if a 2003 machine has been taken off without actually removing it. Even then it isnt that hard to clean it up manually.
  22. Noooo... exchange 2007 is far far far better... coudl you tell me in a bit more detail the problem so i can have a think... or even where is your school?
  23. Source Network Address: 10.42.42.201 Source Port: 53176 that part of the error should tell you the information. i would then suggest doing either a packet sniffer on that particular machine or on the identified machine do a cmd "netstat -a" Hope this helps
  24. There should be a bit more information after the 4625 error: " An account failed to log on. Subject: Security ID: NULL SID Account Name: - Account Domain: - Logon ID: 0x0 Logon Type: 3 Account For Which Logon Failed: Security ID: NULL SID Account Name: asdf Account Domain: Failure Information: Failure Reason: Unknown user name or bad password. Status: 0xc000006d Sub Status: 0xc0000064 Process Information: Caller Process ID: 0x0 Caller Process Name: - Network Information: Workstation Name: WIN-R9H529RIO4Y Source Network Address: 10.42.42.201 Source Port: 53176 Detailed Authentication Information: Logon Process: NtLmSsp Authentication Package: NTLM Transited Services: - Package Name (NTLM only): - Key Length: 0 This event is generated when a logon request fails. It is generated on the computer where access was attempted. The Subject fields indicate the account on the local system which requested the logon. This is most commonly a service such as the Server service, or a local process such as Winlogon.exe or Services.exe. The Logon Type field indicates the kind of logon that was requested. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network). The Process Information fields indicate which account and process on the system requested the logon. The Network Information fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases. The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request. •Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request. •Package name indicates which sub-protocol was used among the NTLM protocols •Key length indicates the length of the generated session key. This will be 0 if no session key was requested " If you could post the full event:
  25. Also was going to suggest a repair. Also may be an idea to take a backup of the database once it has been repaired.
