  1. Afternoon all, Bit excited as I've just passed my Microsoft 70-680 (Windows 7, Configuring) exam this morning :-) It's the first Microsoft exam I've actually properly dedicated the time to doing the revision for (I'd done a few CRM exams a few years ago when working in industry but found it rather dull), so I'm really really pleased to have passed it first time :-) Where to next though....my current aim is MCITP Server Administrator (and then onto Enterprise Administrator in the long term) (I know the 70-680 doesn't go towards this, but it seemed like the best exam for me to do to get me started)....I'm thinking 70-640 next
  2. We use date of birth followed by initials with a number on the end in the rare instance that we get duplicates. With regards teachers accessing student work, we allow read access but don't allow them to write back to the folder.
  3. Same here for Smoothwall....the only complaint I have with it, is that it has ruined my favourite Friday afternoon job of "spot the kid on a game and ban the site the game is on" as since Smoothwall went in, I don't think I've seen a kid on a game :-)
  4. I've just booked my 70-680 exam (first microsoft qualification I've tried to do), but essentially I'm hoping to do as already been suggested and work my way towards MCITP Server Administrator (at least to begin with). Apologies for thread hijacking, but what would people recommend for revision?
  5. You've got a window, what more do you need?
  6. I've been given the following link to a Hotfix from Microsoft for this.... Roaming profile users experience slow logons on Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 client computers Currently I've applied the registry changes to 3/4 machines (but not the hotfix as yet) and the logon times have come down to under two minutes....although I'm not saying the issue is completely resolved, it is progress :-)
  7. As far as I know, it's ecopy which does the link to Sims and then there is an extra bit which sits on the photocopiers (I can't be completely sure on this though).
  8. Depending on the version of Windows Server you're running, File Server Resource Manager should be able to do this for you.
  9. we use a product called E-copy which we buy through Canon (who we lease our photocopiers through) to do this for us.
  10. Thanks for the suggestion (I didn't mean to steal your thread, so sorry about that, I do already have a thread open on this and I'm working through suggestions now). We use roaming profiles for staff and mandatory profiles for students. Students are reasonable login times of a minute or two, but it's staff where the problem lies. Profiles are set to be no bigger than 100mb.
  11. 2 minutes! I'd kill for 2 minute logon speeds, we're currently getting anything up to 40 minutes!!!
  12. This was my thought, the job title gives me quite serious reservations about applying.
  13. + 1 for Ergo and CP LTD
  14. I presume they mean this one... Macclesfield College - Vacancies - Vacancies at Macclesfield College/LZ6 Only saw it over the weekend myself.
  15. The issue is too widespread for that, I think, we don't have many HP printers and it's happening in areas where the driver wouldn't be. I've already got this turned on, and the screen it gets stuck on just says "Welcome"..... I'll give this a try, thanks :-)
  16. Morning All, We're currently having a bit of an issue with regards logon times. Just for the background, we're running Server 2008 on our DC's and most of our other servers, with 2003 on the rest. Clients are all Windows 7 Enterprise (since being upgraded over the summer). Since staff came back in September their logon times have been getting progressively worse, the worst reported logon time currently stands at 72 minutes!!! They get to the login screen pretty quickly, enter their details and the PC sits there at the "Welcome" screen. This issue is only affecting staff, who use roaming profiles which have a limited size of 100mb in place. Students use mandatory profiles and aren't being affected. At this point, all we've done is restarted our servers and core switches. Any suggestions on where to go next would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Iain
  17. That's pretty much the situation I find myself in :-) Thanks for all your responses, I'm going to get myself a Sahara screen, thanks to CPLTD for being so quick on the phone :-)
  18. Morning all, Very general thing. I'm looking to replace a couple of our protable projector screens that get used fairly regularly when the school has meetings in areas that don't have a permanent solution in place (I've already asked and they won't let me put a permanent solution up). The two we have are quite literally falling apart, and as much as anything when we have them set up for parents evening it looks shoddy. I've done a bit of googling, but I've never heard of any of the companies, can anyone recommend anywhere? Can anyone recommend me a particular screen? Cheers Iain
  19. Completely different to everything else mentioned, but I've just pre-ordered Fifa 12 on ps3 :-)
  20. We've got a similar problem in one of our Science Labs at the moment, having changed the cables, checked the projector bulb life we found that the cause is the video splitter.
  21. Funnily enough one of my APC UPS' has just done this......6 weeks out of its 2 year warranty! Not impressed as I've now got to find more money to replace it (which I hadn't originally put in our budget requirements for this academic year) :-(
  22. I had this with a Samsung printer in our school, I updated the driver and it then worked fine. No idea if it will work with yours or not, but worth a shot :-)
  23. I've just had a phone call from a company calling themselves Millenium inviting me to a "mini Bett show" involving large numbers of suppliers.....has anyone else had this call?
  24. I regularly get asked to create reports in Sims however I now refuse to do them, purely because the school has paid for some members of the admin team to attend the "Sims Reporting" course and don't feel that it wouldn't be beneficial to my role for me to attend the same training. Therefore the people who have had the training can do report creation :-)
  25. We're in the same boat, I have it installed on a handful of machines being tested by one of our Deputy Head's
