Thanks, that's what I thought would be the case. Pupil iPads wont be a problem, it's the 70 staff ones that will be a little trickier, they moan when they are given a new one, let alone having to wipe and setup an old one! If you factory reset an iPad will that release the licences, or will I need to remove all the allocations in Airwatch and wait for the licences to be release before resetting?

We currently have around 200 ipads but this will expand over the next few months as we move a couple of year groups to 1:1 devices. I currently use Airwatch (now VMware workspace one I believe) mdm to manage these which I've never had a problem with, except the price, the per device cost is very high. To save money, especially as we increase the number of devices I want to look at other options. How difficult have people found it migrating to a new MDM? All of our devices are enrolled via DEP. Would I need to reset every device to migrate? How easy was it to move app licences (all purchased through VPP, and now migrated to apple school manager) Anything else to look out for?

what CCTV settings do you use? FPS, Bitrate etc.

My settings are largely the same apart from the frame rate we have set to 8, which doesn't seem to miss anything on playback but saves us some space. -
Can anyone recommend a good ipad stand for use in our library? We want to enable the children to check their own books out, so will have a couple of ipads mounted in stands for them to access libresoft on. The main library desk is going as part of a refurb. It needs to have a neat way to get power to the ipad and allow the rear camera to be used for scanning book barcodes. From a UK supplier that I can order from would be great too :-)

All our laptop and ipad trolleys are Zioxi, all still as good as the day we got them.

I'd ensure the email was deleted completely then email the person that sent it, copy in their office at or head at address to say what you received, what you have done and advise that they should report the data breach in line with their policies and procedures. I don't think there is a requirement for you to do any more than that.

We want to standardise our signatures across the school. We use office 365 for email, and a combination of desktop computers using Outlook or the web client and a lot of staff ipads. Creating signatures in Outlook or the website works fine. If we want one on the ipad though the logo picture we have in it does not work. I have tried creating it within the Outlook App on the ipad - we copy an existing signature, paste it into the signature box in the settings, and then just change the name / job title. All looks fine in the box, and also looks fine on the ipad when we create a new email, but when it is received the logo is not there, but a box with a red X and "The linked image cannot be displayed. The file may have been moved, renamed or deleted. Verify that the link points to the correct file and location" The logo also does not appear in the email in sent items on the ipad. The logo sends fine from everywhere else. Is this a problem with our setup, or does having logos in signatures on the Outlook app just not work?

Default domain controller policy - SID rather than name
steveg replied to steveg's topic in Windows Server 2019
I've deleted them now :-) No IIS on the domain controller, so should be ok! -

Thanks, one of those things where I was 99% sure but wanted the reassurance before I did! -
Default domain controller policy - SID rather than name
steveg posted a topic in Windows Server 2019
Going through and removing a couple of things from the default domain policy that shouldn't be in there, before I did this I backed up the default domain and default domain controllers policy. Backing up the default domain controller policy came up with an error. I've had a look through the settings in there and there are some under user rights assignment that have SIDs starting with a * listed instead of names. They do also have the groups / local service etc accounts that I would expect to see in there. I'm assuming these are most likely for old deleted accounts that have at some point not deleted as they should, and I should be safe to remove them? Just wanted a second opinion before I remove them! -
I have a teacher isolating at the moment, they are going to create Loom videos. They are using the desktop version of Loom, which was running fine for the first 3 videos, now when they run it, it doesn't load. Task manager shows 3 Loom processes running, but we cannot see the program. If I right click and run as administrator it does seem to load, but this shouldn't be necessary and I don't want to give them admin rights (would also need the laptop back on site to do this) Have tried the obvious remove and re-install, temp disabled virus checker but still same issue. They ideally want the features of the desktop app rather than running the Chrome plugin

Email retention from the ground up
steveg replied to Jobos's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
We have ours set to 26 months for almost all staff except a few senior leaders and the HR person. We have separate systems for child protection and HR files so there should be nothing in email inboxes that is required to be kept that isn't already stored elsewhere, and 26 months lets them look up things from up to 2 years ago. We were formerly fully switch 2 with about 8 doors on it. I've now upgraded all the doors to Net 2 and all the old fobs and cards we had worked fine with the new readers and controllers, binned all the shadow cards when the last switch 2 controller went. Had about 5 different sets of cards and at least 3 different fobs. Not sure if we got lucky or if they are just all compatible.

I think it is to do with finance regs, the third party will have to be someone other than the school. If the school buys it directly then it would have been a hire purchase agreement and not a lease. Normally you can lease for another year and then the company can either write the goods off as no value, or as you have mentioned let you keep it indefinitely.

https://www.parentseveningsystem.co.uk/ has been used by us for many years and has been pretty faultless. Does video meetings for an extra charge too.

The most common cause of displays changing from duplicate to extended for us is when they do a powerpoint and it goes into presenter mode, it doesn't seem to change back afterwards. Disabling presenter mode stops it.

We are a primary school, Reception have a generic login, as do year 1 for the first half the year, we introduce individual user accounts for them part way through, then disable the shared year 1 login. Year 2 - 6 have individual logins with increasingly complex passwords. From a safeguarding point of view I don't know how we could manage with shared logins, with keyword monitoring and web filtering it isn't very useful to be able to say one of the 60 kids in year 3 did x.

I like the look of them, shame they need a hub as well to work with Alexa which takes them a bit over budget for me

We normally buy gifts for each other in our main office and as I line manage the caretaker choosing his gift is my job. He currently can't drink alcohol or eat much, so i'm limited on what I can buy! He is very into smart gadgets, has a lot of smart lights, ring doorbell and alexa devices. Can anyone suggest any good smart gadgets (alexa compatible) for around £50?

How do the prices compare to to the MX series?

This year we have moved to Arbor so have got the parents to input it themselves. I've shared it as a template, not sure how that works, never shared a form outside the organisation for other than for filling in!

I've had more of a play with this today and if I have a meeting with only ipads, it works fine. I tried from my phone to an ipad (both on school wifi) all was fine. We had an online demo today using Teams and had to join using our ipads. If I have a meeting with an ipad to a pc, or pc to pc it doesn't work. So this would likely suggest it is either the client software or something on the pc, although no changes have been made to configuration this week. Calls from a pc still work fine, so video can get through, just not when doing it as a meeting! We have on-site smoothwall box for filtering in bridging mode, with firewall being handled by the local authority, who aren't aware of any problems in any other schools. Will build a couple of off-domain windows pc's now and try it on there to eliminate any configuration issues

Thanks for the replies. We had another very productive meeting with Arbor yesterday to discuss the issue and are going to be put into contact with their product team for this development so we can work with them on it. It was just disappointing for us that at the moment it doesn't work as it should, or how we believed it would work after the sales meetings, which has resulted in us having to migrate this section back to our old system. We have also have a meeting with the sales team and they have agreed that there is learning to be taken from this, it certainly wasn't an attempt to miss-sell, but did highlight where they could improve in the future. Hopefully this development work will bring it in line with the rest of the system, which we have been very happy with.

Starting yesterday we have stopped having video working in most of our teams meetings. No issues with the cameras, they all work fine. The meeting starts fine, audio works fine and occasionally some people do get video, but most just get the initials / picture of people and audio. It seems to work ok for external people. If I do a call through teams rather than a meeting, the video works perfectly. There seems to be other reports of this on line with no solutions. I've tried removing and re-installing teams, but it also has same issues on an ipad, so I'm guessing it's a network / filtering issue?
