We still sysprep and capture a fat image and deploy via wds, we are a primary school with quite a lot of software, some of which is a pain to install. We have site licences for everything so only have to maintain 2 images, admin and curriculum.

I deployed 22 Unify SHD access points over the summer. No major issues, Radius working with smoothwall for our staff, 200 ipads and 120ish windows laptops all working fine with no problems. Bargain price and no ongoing licensing costs.

1 - They have a base station which they dock into which charges them. Not sure off hand what adaptor this uses, may be able to find an old one in the loft to check. 2 - No idea, don't think so! May be one when you install the software. 3 - They are essentially mp3 players build into headphones that use their own software to download stories to them.

Setting up new Unifi network with radius to NPS server. Previously with the old ruckus network, I set the client to the ip of the ruckus controller, same on the smoothwall and all worked. Did that with unifi and it doesn't work. Configured both with the ip of the access point and it works fine. Do I need to add each access point as a radius client with unifi and not the controller? Just want to check before I go and do it for all 20 aps!

Last year I deployed windows 10 education 1809 - supported until May 2021, plenty of time. We use wsus for updates, I haven't approved feature updates, and have group policy set to delay them by 365 days. I have booted some computers this summer and they seem to now want to install 1903 update, no idea why (maybe it's been out over 365 days now). I intended to go to 1909 sometime this term via wsus, because of the longer support date of 1909. I have now removed the 365 day delay group policy, and instead deployed the new one using the targetreleaseversioninfo policy, and set it to 1909, and approved the 1909 update in wsus. If I boot a machine that has been off for a while it seems to work as planned, takes a while to get the new policies, but then updates itself to 1909. The machines that have updated to 1903 though do not seem to further update to 1909. Is there any reason for this? I could understand if the delay 365 days was still set but it isn't, they should surely update to the target release version of 1909?

I did the more sensible thing in the end and replaced just the motherboard and power supply. Could have done them one at a time but she was desperate to get the pc back up and running. Been running fine since the weekend, so hopefully that's it sorted now!

Trying to decide between UAP-AC-HD and UAP-AC-SHD - the latter having an additional security radio, that supports Airtime and Airview, which while they seem useful for troubleshooting, I'm not sure how much value there is in having them - there is a pretty significant cost difference. I can find reviews from a couple of years ago, which talk of new features that the SHD is going to have, but can't find many details of these actually having been implemented in the software?

My son has a gt1030 low profile card in a small form factor Dell that I recycled, makes a great budget gaming pc and he's very happy with it. Wont play the latest and greatest games very well, but for what he does with it he's happy and was around £80. Is also passively cooled which helps, there was fairly limited space in the case for one with a big fan on too. Also didn't need any extra power connectors. Steve

That's good to hear that it works! I can get all 4x4 AC wave 2 points for about 3k less than the 2x2 ruckus solution by going with unifi

Looking to upgrade our wifi this summer, and spec wise the Unifi AP AC HD Wave 2 points look great, but I want to be sure the virtual controller is up to the job too. At the moment about the most advanced thing we do is authenticate our staff wireless devices using Radius, which also links in to our smoothwall appliance for filtering. Is anyone doing this or similar with Unifi access points at the moment? Any problems?

We were advised that deleting a team and then creating a new one next year with the same name can cause a lot of problems, so have named our teams based on intake year, with separate channels for different things, which means that the same team will follow the year group through their time at the school. We are a primary school however, so in terms of the number of teams we have and the way things work it is a lot simpler!

We're a primary school, we have a small desktop copier on contract with all our other copiers in the block outside the IT suite that serves that room and 2 classrooms nearby. Best thing ever not having to worry about toners / maintenance etc with printers - we have none in the school now.

What's wrong with youtube? We have hosted all of our home learning videos on there, made them public but unlisted and then linked from our website. Started creating year group accounts so teachers could upload themselves.

I agree it's not going to be a real upgrade in terms of noticeable performance difference, but having had a faulty pc for a number of months now, and using the one that I previously built her 5 years ago (which works fine, but too slow :-) ) she's fed up and just wants it sorted now. I can look at recovering some of the cost by selling components if i warranty any of them when I work out what is wrong afterwards.

Would be very interested in what you could do, if you can make use of the existing components I listed would be great to have it built by you guys, having purchased computers from you before.

My sister had a gaming pc built for her about a year ago (didn't ask me first!) and it has been nothing but trouble, frequently not powering on, then on occasion it will work for no apparent reason. I've stripped it down and rebuilt it, it worked fine for a couple of days then same problem. It is going to be a problem with the motherboard or cpu most likely, or psu / case, less likely. There is enough ram in it to troubleshoot by removing 2 sticks, and it has onboard graphics, so I can rule out graphics card. I don't have a spare cpu / motherboard to try. She now just wants to buy a new case, motherboard, cpu and power supply, and move across the other components. I can then try and work out whats wrong and warranty the faulty component(s). What would everyone go for now? Components moving across are: m.2 drive sata ssd sata hdd 64gb corsair vengeance RGB PC4-21300 (2666) ram (4 x 16) Geforce RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio 8gb graphics card. There is a water cooled cpu cooler as well which can be used if required, it's a closed loop one, happy to ditch it though. Current cpu is an i7 9700k. I'm thinking either a Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 9 now to replace it, with a motherboard that supports pcie 4.0 to allow a bit of future proofing for a graphics card upgrade in a few years. I know these support faster memory, but will they work with 2666? Case needs to be good quality and RGB. No specific budget as long as any extra money spent makes sense i.e no threadripper! Primary, and pretty much only purpose of the pc is gaming.

Would just muting all the students have the desired effect? That would stop them posting in the team. I guess it depends how many teams they are in as to how long this would take to manage?

This thread has been really useful, just applying policies now. In the Admin center under assigned policies for each user there are 2 policies that can be applied that i cannot find the name for to apply from powershell? the live events policy and one that is just called teams policy. All the others i want to apply have been fine.

They aren't the highest build quality, i'd imagine they would normally sell for a lot less, but they were the only thing in stock anywhere when we got them. Out of 18 we got 1 was doa.
