Have you checked out the proxy settings to make sure they are allowed access to pull down .exe's etc? Do you have WSUS at the site you could set up for your boxes to use, that way you have a single place to troubleshoot/look at downloading from the outside and you control what goes out to your boxes and save some bandwidth from them all going to the internet.

Yes, this happens on my acer work laptop and it is an absolute pain in the backside. I disabled the touchpad and use a mouse now, it's just easier and less dramatic than crying when you completely type the wrong stuff into a terminal.

If you use a common account for the whole class I'd personally create a "group" for each class and make the class account a member of said group then do the Desktop Redirection for that "group" (you can do multiple of these inside a single policy). Then you could set the teachers to the directory "above" each of the class ones so they can nip in and do whatever. It depends how you ideally (technology aside) would like them to see and interact with the system.

Assuming your server goes through the same proxy with the same filtering as your clients it does look like it could be browser/group policy related.

Yup, works for me. Are you on a filtered internet connection? I've seen occurrences similar to this when the user is actually filtered from seeing the movie (which sits in front of the message saying "you need blah blah".

You could install something like Poweriso/daemontools to create a virtual drive to mount this iso into. It's a bit bigger than a normal image but sometimes windows does make these values up so if it came from a reputable source it may burn onto a dual layer dvdr.

Yeah, I would imagine you've installed something such as mailx or such with which exim4 has pulled in as a dependency of which wasn't a problem until the box rebooted. (Reinstalling zimbra won't fix this). Run dpkg -l | grep exim4 to get all of the exim package names (I don't like wildcarded removals) and remove them one at a time taking note of any other apps it may wish to remove.

Before reinstalling do what powdarrmonkey suggested so we can actually see what's wrong.

If the network is completely open beyond the LA switch outwards I'm glad you put a device in on your end to stop the spreading of bad stuff etc. We were fortunately very lucky with my previous RBC as they had tight controls on the network (yay) which meant that schools did not see other schools so we felt somewhat safer. Other RBCs like yours it seems don't quite share this view of security and if I were you I'd stick as you are until they at least prove commitment to improving security. Not using LA assigned numbering can become a problem if they employ any simplified sign on systems or resources which are only open to 'ip ranges' with limits on how many hits from the proxy etc. Sitting down and talking to them like adults is probably going to help rather than this company going around telling people to bin their working solutions. (They bought them for a reason!)
