You can map the drive specifying those credentials in a logon script.

Should also point out that rdp(with a secure system) would be better than vpn as the data won't be *leaving* the school network as with a VPN it would be albeit secured, but probably better to keep it all in in school imho.

The photos etc will be on the hard disk, you could use a usb hard disk adapter to connect your hard disk to another computer and copy these off.

I installed this software and can't for the life of me recall if I had to do anything special. Worth trying to give everyone full control rights just to see if it is a permissions issue somewhere, then work back from there maybe?
