Can anyone tell me what groups / security I need to give a staff member in AD to allow Password control to work. It works for administrators but I don't want to give administrator to teaching staff.

We have just got some brand new Stone PCs, which are having intermittent sound problems and Youtube and DVDs are running very slowly. I've tried redownloading the drivers from the Stone website but it's not helping. Any other suggestions? The music teacher is going mad as she uses videos all day long.

Would this replace LanSweeper in terms of the inventory side of things?

Well, it was going OK. Mounted first nuc under desk, sideways so it's unlikely to get knocked down. Feeling quite positive and then went to plug it in. We have under floor power boxes, and the plugs are about 2 inches tall.....

Ooh, I'm not back in school until next week but I will investigate that. That would be much easier. The desks are smart top, about 8 years old, and I think made by a previous manufacturer so possibly slightly different. RE drill. I think I will buy one. I don't often need one but it will come in handy. Sugru-looks interesting, I have never heard of it but I will look into it.

I need to install 32 NUC computers in our ICT suite next week (I can't get into do it until after the bank holiday). We have these desks so I can't mount them on the back of the monitors, and because of the way the desks close, having the computer on the desktop isn't an option either. My original plan was to mount the VESA plate under the desk and then attach the computers to this, but I tried one and it was not easy to attach to the desktop (although not impossible if I purchased a better drill), but then I'm worried as the PCs seem to attach by sliding down into a narrower slot and obviously we won't have gravity on our side, so will they fall off? My next thought is maybe mounting the plates back to back around a leg? Has anyone tried this? is it madness? My thought was to get longish bolts, and mount 2 plates back to back with 4 bolts, possibly adding some double sided velco in the mix to keep it secure? Then I can mount the NUCs vertically, into the mounts? Any other ideas? I am starting to panic about how I will do this.

We have received at least 30 extra Microbits, so I've got a spare class set for next year. When we used them this year, the initial program was a great starting point, and I'd like to be able to put it back on the machines so each class can start as if it was a new device. Has anyone found the program on the BBC Microbit website? Or is there a button combo that will reset them?

We have ranger installed on our network but I don't use any of the features and it has a tendency to crash and stop anyone from logging in. We are getting new PCs over the summer, but keeping the old server, so I'm thinking of doing without Ranger. I can set up everything I need using Group Policy, and I have LanSweeper, which I use to remotely log in to PCs and for inventory etc The only thing that Ranger is supposed to do, is log who has visited which website, but as we use Chrome it doesn't so that anyway. is there anything I need to know about removing Ranger? and anything that can log what websites have been visited using IE and Chrome?

I don't t hink it's that expensive compared to what we paid for our trolley. At the time I wanted to be able to sync the whole set, so cables and the ability to connect the trolley to the Mac for adding apps etc was crucial, but I do all that wirelessly via Meraki now, so it's extremely rare that I physically attach the trolley to the mac these days. We find the kids don't always plug the ipads in correctly (ours are ipad2, the newer chargers may be less problematic) so the idea of wireless charging would definitely appeal to me. The number one problem with have with both the ipads and laptops is that they aren't charged correctly.

I use Meraki rather than Lightspeed, but I set the wallpaper and device name using Apple Configurator when I supervise them and add the Meraki Profile. Then I do everything else in Meraki.

Interestingly, I have now had one bottom out. The entire clamshells section dropped onto the floor. Now looking for a replacement, but looking at this thread, it doesn't look like there are any good options out there.

I would also like this, we use Ranger but I want to get rid of it. The 'only' useful feature I find from Ranger is the list of who is logged in at any point in time.

I can't help with the webclips, but I have managed to hide Apps which was quite a revelation! I used Meraki, but the restriction is also in configurator. The bundle id's you need are here iOS 9.3 officially supports hiding stock apps, here's how to do it

That's excellent. I've also discovered that the Meraki option does work, it's just not obvious. The list of devices still appear on the iPad but they never reflect.

We are using Airserver in our classrooms, and I need to stop pupils from being able to reflect their iPads onto the screen. I can add a password using Airserver, but it still covers the screen and interrupts the lesson. Meraki suggests on this blog that you can block Airplay access to none approved devices, but I can't work out how. https://meraki.cisco.com/blog/2015/05/systems-manager-your-new-teaching-assistant/ I've ticked the box, and added a non-existent Device ID. But all the classrooms are still listed on each iPad in the Airplay section when you swipe up. Has anyone had any success with this?

I have recently done a fresh install of Junior Librarian on a standalone PC. We got a new library so we set everything up from scratch. I have 2 issues. First: the loans view doesn't show the date the book was checked out, nor the date it was returned. There is a column for due date but it is blank. I am sure I should be able to set a default loan period somewhere, but I can only find one for textbooks, which is a fixed 'end of term' date. Surely it should automatically set a 4 week (eg) period for each book as it is checked out? Secondly, I want to add the checked out date to the Loans view. Once you get the VPP account set up, it works quite well. You have to buy the apps on https://volume.itunes.apple.com/ then you to into the VPP page on Meraki, and 'SYNC' and the license will appear. Then you go to the Apps page and 'add' the app. Which seems like an unnecessary step to me, but until you do that you can't assign it to any PCs. On the 'App' page, there is a tick box on the specific app that says 'assign using VPP license' and that has to be ticked.

i've never had one 'bottom out', but we had a few where the monitor was pulled repeatedly and the lid developed a hole in the wood so the lids didn't stay shut. We have had a kitchen company repair the lids and they are working ok at the moment, I am also looking at ultra small PCs to mount under the desktops.

We have some which look like this. (the picture is interesting, as I don't know where they have stashed the PCs, ours were originally on the floor and we now have them in metal cages hanging from the desks) They are ok, but at 8 years old they are looking very tired now. Some of them are very hard to open, we have the occasional mouse/keyboard wire trapped but it's not a massive problem. My biggest gripe is if a cable falls out of the back of a monitor, then 8 screws need to be removed to push it back in. The power cables do seem to work themselves loose. It's also a bit of a nightmare to wire them all in, and remove them if you need to change a PC. For us, they have been the only viable option, our school is small and we couldn't dedicate a classroom purely to ICT so this way we can have other lessons in there as well. We had laptops before we got these desks, and I prefer these desks to laptops.

We are trying to run it here in Chrome and IE11, and having issues with the menus, and also are struggling to register new accounts.

What I have done, which maybe is wrong.... Using Apple Config 2, I added 2 profiles to each iPad, one is the meraki management, and the other just contains the Wifi Details (you can see this on the iPad in settings, and the details are all listed in plain site. ) It is set to Auto Join, but it doesn't seem to work. Even if I select the SchoolWifi in settings it asks me to enter the password. The ipads were also supervised in AC2. Then in Meraki I have a profile with the restrictions on, and a profile with the Wifi details in. I can see this profile on the iPad as well, but again, if the connection drops, it doesn't automatically reconnect, even through the details are there in the Profiles section. We have 2 proxies, one allows access to Youtube and one doesn't. What I was attempting to do yesterday, was switch the ipads between them via Meraki, so I could enable YouTube for a lesson and then remove it. I had 2 profiles set up, so I was removing one and adding another, However, as soon as it picked up the change, they just dropped off the wifi and I have had to reconnected them all manually.

We are using Huawei wifi, and I use Meraki to push out profiles. It normally works quite well, but I changed a profile in Meraki yesterday which kicked everyone off the Wifi, and then since they weren't connected they couldn't pick up the corrected profile. The ipads actually have a Wifi Profile on them from Apple Configurator, but they don't seem to use it. I don't really understand how it works, but there has to be an easier way to connect them all.
