We are involved in Eurasmus, and the group want to share videos between schools, but need assurances that they are being held securely. Can anyone recommend a reliable place to hold videos that are password protected? I was looking at CloudUp, but then found an option to view the videos without the password even though I had specified they were to be password protected, so that put me off.

We have removed Ranger at the 2 sites I work at, one has got NetSupport but we have nothing as yet at the other. It's a larger site and I can't really justify the cost for the limited reason I would use it. The main thing I really miss from Lan Ranger, is the abilty to switch on / off all PCs in bulk, or a selection of PCs, and log them in en-masse to the same userid. This is really useful when you are doing maintenance but not something I'm prepared to pay very much for. It really feels like there should be some cheap/free software out there that will do this. I also like the easy way you can remotely connect, but I can remotely connect using free tools, it's just not so easy.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a school wide account? I can't see anything on the website, but the head is keen to get an account set up for the school. thanks

Google Apps Suite has MDM options for Chromebooks which works really well. It looks like it has some very limited features for iPads. I can see it has picked up some of my iPads which have logged in using email addresses from that domain, but it only looks like you can remotely wipe them, or set calendars and email accounts on them. I wouldn't say it would take the place of a proper MDM solution.

Meraki is free if you have under 100 iPads, and I am currently using it, but I have to admit looking at their website now it's not clear if you can still sign up to the free option. We have recently bought a larger number of iPads so have moved to Lightspeed for these but it costs £5 per ipad per year.

This looks great, but they no longer offer the upgrade to teams for free. The other stumbling block is I can't seem to set it for 5 minute appointments. I could manage without the teams option but the minimum of 10 minutes is a big problem.

To be fair to Lightspeed, when I used my phone as a hotspot Apple Classroom was working fine so I do think it works.

I am trying to get Apple Classroom to work. I've got it all set up in School manager and Lightspeed and the iPads show up but all appear offline. I have had the odd one flicker on and then disappear again. I've just tried putting the teacher iPad and a pupil iPad online via my phone rather than the school internet and it worked immediately, which makes me think it's the firewall? Any ideas what I need to open to get it to work ?

I will keep my fingers crossed, the LEA owns the current domain, and we own the new one, but we purchased the licenses for the Management App when I bought the Chromebooks.

Yes, we have asked the parents to pay for the Ipads and part of them agreeing to that was that the kids could install games for use at home. However, they know we can see what Apps are installed and remotely lock/wipe the iPad if we see anything inappropriate. Our kids are 9/10 so I shop we won't get Betfair on there!

My understanding is we can use the managed Apple Ids for the iCloud, but they can use a personal Apple ID to make purchases. We will be pushing out school Apps from our MDM but they are allowed to buy their own apps for use at home. (Since they are paying for the iPads it was decided they should be allowed to put games etc on for use at home) Have I got that wrong?

I deploy apps automatically via the Free version of meraki - I did upgrade to the latest version but I have under 100 iPads so it's still free. The iPads do have to be supervised first. eI would love any advice on how best to set up School Manager for a 1:1 deployment, we will be using Lightspeed with 63 students in 3 classes at the start of January. I'd lik to get it all set up correctly at the start, as the ipads will belong to the students so if I need to get my hands on them to change something manually it will be challenging! We are buying them from Jigsaw24 and they should be linked via the DEP program so they have all the settings added automatically.

Yes and No I can buy school apps and deploy them without apple ids - this is what we do with our class set of shared iPads. However, the 1:1 ipads will be used in a different way. The kids will be taking them home, so they allowed to buy their own apps, for which they will need an App Store Apple ID which the parents will set up with their bank details, But if we want to use iCloud sharing / Apple Classroom to share work with the teacher then I think they need an AppleID for iCloud (which will be different to the one for the App Store). That what I'm not clear on as we haven't used Apple Classroom / iCloud or even emails on the iPads before but we do want to be able to do all these things now they will have their own devices.

We are about to launch a 1:1 deployment into Year 5, the ipads are all ordered and we have an Apple School Manager and will be using Lightspeed. I am trying to decide what to do about Apple Ids. I am happy for the parents to use a personal Apple ID to purchase Apps, any that school provide will be pushed out without an AppleId. However, for iCloud, I am thinking we should use Managed Apple IDs, my thoughts are that we want them to be easily able to share work with teachers / classmates etc, and knowing every appleid is in a standard format will be useful. We can group them into classes, and I assume there are benefits for the Classroom App but I haven't investigated that yet. Disadvantages; Some restrictions, App store/ Itunes store is ok, as parents will set up an AppleId for that. I can allow Messages and Facetime (presumably outside of school hours?), Find my IPhone concerns me but I assume Lightspeed will offer an alternative? I know Meraki does. Are there any other disadvantages before I set them up?

Our phone system is an Alcatel Lucent system, with a 4039 in the main office and 4019 extensions. We changed the answer phone message last week, and now have 2 problems. The message said Press 1 to leave a pupil absence Press 2 to enter an extension Press 3 to speak to reception. Then if they pressed 3 and reception was busy / didnt' answer, it would go to voice mail. It is all working, except that on 3, the phone doesn't go to Voice Mail anymore. Also, there is a further message which is still in the 'old voice' when they press 1 and I can't find anywhere in the menu where we can change it. We have changed the main part of the messages using this part of the menu Menu Operator – PASSWORD Expert Down Arrow Voice Mail Auto Attend You can then arrow to the left to record the 2nd part, but I can't find anymore messages recorded in there. Is anyone familiar with these phones?

I am running some SQL to see all the bookings made this year, but i don't think the recurring bookings are listed correctly? Are they created in the database repeatedly for each week, or is there just one record for the whole year?

We use ASC Timetables, I've used it for a medium sized middle school and found it excellent. http://www.asctimetables.com/ You can download it and create your timetable for free, but you will need to pay in order to print. however, it gives you a good chance to see if it will work for you. We have used it for the last 8 years, prior to that I believe they used post-it notes on the dining room table!

I;'m having similiar problems with My Maths and Scratch. If I go to the flash page, flash isn't installed but I can't update it as it just says chrome automatically updates flash.

We have been using this system for over a year and it's been working great, but this term we are getting loads of glitches. Bookings that appear not to have been made but then are actually there if you change the day and return to the original day. Is there any reason this would happen? I have it hosted on some webspace which I have purchased.

I am trying to enable this for staff, but they are getting the option greyed out. I've got the 'Hide Fast User Switching' set to Disabled in Group Policy, is there anything else that affects it?

I've tried following the instructions on the Spiceworks link but they still don't have access. If I put them in the Administrators group, then it works perfectly, so it's definitely permissions related, but obviously making them administrators isn't a viable solution.
