  1. Love it as a tool - got a page on my website (Fun with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) | my world of IT) that shows some of the things I accomplished using it And yes it does work very well with command reporter.
  2. Hi all! New job, new firewall! After a good 2 years with a Smoothwall I'm now looking after a Palo Alto 3020. Its handling firewall through the virtual wire feature; DHCP and not much else. Currently running on version 6.0.6 and looking to move it to the latest version (6.1.5 via 6.1.0 which looks to be a prerequisite). Before I press the big install button later this week is anyone aware of any gotachas in the update process? Cheers, James
  3. Just to throw my 2p in here - this is one of the reasons why a few months ago we moved our Smoothwall to a virtual machine from physical hosts. With SSL inspection turned on I'm starting to see a rise in CPU usage and we just wouldn't have the funds to fork out for new hardware that often.
  4. As a bit of kit for personal use I'm over the moon with it - haven't asked it to do something that it hasn't been able to do yet (up to and including playing all of my games library at low/medium detail with the i5 128GB model). As with my Surface RT the WiFi in it is excellent - better signal strength than any other laptop I've had. Using mine with my original Type Cover for Surface RT (like that they kept backwards compatibility) and so can't comment on the modern touch/type covers. Expect to loose a few pens - the magnet isn't as strong as it could be and its not like the old HP TX series where there was a slot for it. Domain wise...no clue although I do hear Microsoft have released some tools to make enterprise class deployment easier.
  5. Saw this a few times myself - don't ever recall a true fix but converting to PDF and then printing the pages of the PDF seemed to work fine.
  6. In the version that we got you can activate it (under admin privileges which does it for all users of the PC) at time of install (details here - Deploying AirServer 1.9.6 via SCCM | my world of IT). However I'm pretty sure they were changing that licencing model so that this doesn't work anymore...either way worth a go!
  7. Considered setting up a DMZ switch and getting a Session Border Controller? Your internet connection would go into the switch, on one port would sit your Smoothwall and the other your SBC which would act as the firewall for the SIP trunk.
  8. Novatech here - came in the Intel box all good to go; didn't even need to do a custom spec on it as well
  9. Revised advert and suchlike can now be found on the school website - Oxford Spires Academy
  10. When you run nslookup against a domain do you ever get it timing out? Try some domains that your users might not normally visit (say cheese.com). If they are timing out now and again then its DNS, was recently helping out another school with a similar issue - something weird in their Watchguard firewall was making it such that the response from the DNS server was being dropped as an invalid packet (most odd!). Never managed to fix it but replacing the Watchguard with a Smoothwall Express appliance worked
  11. I use IE, I see no problem with it (no really!) Google Chrome is deployed for those who want to use it at work.
  12. Now that I'm moving on my job is up for grabs - Network Manager Will be published on school website sometime on Monday....Job Description/Person Spec and so on all being re worked
  13. YouTube allowed for staff here with no issues - not that I use your products but please don't use some horrible flash player that doesn't work half the time if you go with self hosted!
  14. Just having a tidy up and found 7x HP ProCurve Radio Port 230 WAPs - all in boxed condition and as far as I can tell never used. Not of any worth to me - only 10/100 and g class (https://h10057.www1.hp.com/ecomcat/hpcatalog/specs/provisioner/99/J9006A.htm) but if anyone wants them let me know! Will be off to the PC kit disposal guys on Monday 11th if I don't hear from anyone. Currently located in Oxford.
  15. I use a USB to serial adapter and then a normal serial to console cable as well. Only thing I can add is watch out for the cheaper cables with fake Prolific chips in - they can make the driver install a pain.
  16. No OMRLP on there? Shocked!
  17. Moodle has native LDAP integration Worth checking if any other services do as well.
  18. What firewall/web filtering solution are you using? Pretty sure what you are looking to accomplish can be done using the Quota feature in Smoothwall and I'm sure other filters have something similar.
  19. Got 3 here now - mighty happy with them as well, a few of the light sensors have been put in 'strategic' locations around the school
  20. Amen to that!
  21. Humm try this one - Public SCE HP and their silly URL design (queue someone posting about why they have h#####.hp.com in front of everything!)
  22. http://h22174.www2.hp.com/SimplifiedConfig/MauiServlet is what you are looking for
  23. Take a look at Visual Studio LightSwitch - LightSwitch great place to start out and do rapid design of database applications. You can get the 'Community' edition of Visual Studio 2013 now for free; not so sure if that includes LightSwitch but if not see if your School is signed up for DreamSpark.
  24. No problemo
