I am annoyed with management at my place - they agreed I could go, so I priced up train costs etc for the Friday as that was the cheaper day. Then got told to pick another day as another member of staff was wanted to go on the Friday as there was some seminars they wanted to attend on that day. I then priced up the train for Wednesday, submitted the prices to then play email tennis justifying the times I picked (leaving here 8am to arrive london by 10am, then leaving london at 4pm to be home by 6pm) They agreed 1st class on the way back as there was a meal thrown in. After they finally agreed on times, the prices had gone up again due to their time wasting. They then asked me to get the 7pm train back which I refused and was told I should have got the details to them sooner. Needless to say I wasn't happy!

Im looking forward to going if I;m allowed out to play... plus if they will pay for trains (hopefully 1st class :-) ) not been for about 4 years

Thanks for the replies and confirming our thoughts. I would love to have cisco kit but sadly cannot afford them so having to stick with the current Netgear kit which does the job but is a bit of a pain having to use a web interface on the edge kit.

Just introduced VLAN and so far it has been a slow process but all going well so far. There are currently 20 VLANs configured and wondered if those more experienced using VLANs could answer a couple of questions. Quick example - We have IP Phones on our network (on their own VLAN) but not all the edge switches have IP Phones connected to them. Do we need to tag the uplink ports on the core switch those edge switches which do not have IP Phones on them? We are thinking if they are not tagged then there is less traffic to be routed to switches that do not need them. (Does this make sense?) or should we tag all VLANs on all uplink ports? Thanks Mark

Nearly all our staff have ipads and as part of their AUP, they use their school email accounts for the school appstore purchases. We also tell staff never to use their personal credit cards on these accounts and to purchase and redeem itune vouchers against their accounts. HTH Mark

Im after help with finding helpdesk software which ideally links into Moodle 2.5 or can be configured to use LDAP Capture and retrieve AD credentials from the moodle login session. I know there system that use AD to login etc... but a SSO would be nice :-) Thanks Mark

I'm after some help and advice on how to setup and configure a webdav server. I currently have an XServe doing practically nothing and with the number of ipads increasing in school, we thought about introducing webdav so iPad users can connect to their home folders held on Server 2008 r2 servers. Would it be best to try and use the Xserver to install webdav link them to the home folders or would I be better using a Windows Member server with IIS etc Cheers Mark

At my previous school, we used the same software with a HP desktop and 19" touch screen fitting into a rack as it also linked into the sound system. Unfortunately I cannot remember the spec of the desktop and I cannot ask to find out as the school closed last august.

Its a shame some of the 'younger' ones won't experience the fun of the good old BBC Micro Model B, networked with Econet and those fiddly jumper pins for setting stations ids. The joys of programs such as "View" Word Processing, Viewdata (teletext editor) setting printer commands like *FX5,1 (local printers) *FX5,4 (network Printers) followed by *PS[station id] NOW I feel old :-)

Our Art Department have purchased several Easi-Scope Digital Microscopes to work with their Macs. (These things will also run on Windows) The Macs are running 10.8.3 and have the correct software installed. Software states works on 10.3 and above and no known issues. The Camera Work on Windows but not on Mac..... I find out that our SEN dept have the same camera, so I grab one and low and behold this one works on Mac, yet they are identical! I have emailed the company but they are little or no help! Cant send them back as they had the cameras in a stock room for ages before deciding to use them! Anyone had any issues using them? I had a similar issue to this which turned out to be ported being blocked by our isp/firewall. Once they were unblocked all worked fine.
