When the problems hits, I am able to ping any device on the network except the internal address on the smoothwall box.

OK folks I'm in need of help as my head is battered from trying to figure this out. I've just moved to a new school and we are in the process of moving from CC3 to CC4 (CC4 was commissioned from scratch on it own mini network) including changing IP ranges and introducing a Smoothwall UTM 1000 box thingy...... CC3 servers - Turned off all DHCP/DNS services to avoid any conflicts since the CC4 servers have now gone live on the network Everything seemed to be running smoothly until this week where we seem to have an intermittend problem access the internet and pinging the internal address on the Smoothwall box. Can ping the external IP address and also the 192 address on the smoothwall box. Now this is where it gets confusing........... it seems to affect random machines at random times and doesnt affect the entire network in one go. Example, 2 computers next to each other...... computer A will have an issue and computer B will be perfectly fine. Other times Both computers will have the same issue and other times computer A will be fine and computer B will have the issue. Smoothwall seem to think it may be a network issue, myself I havent got a clue since it happends randomly. Has anyone any ideas or suggestions I can look at next. Many thanks Mark

Hi Iain, if your going through stockport then its a no go! I wanted to go the same for my head and because the way the LA do things - pop, imap cannot be reversed NAT'd So looks like you will e stuck with OWA access only.

The school I work at is closing August 2012 and have offered training (although I doubt they will pay!) I am looking to get certified on Mac 10.7 and possibly doing Lion 101 and Lion 201. Does anyone know if there are training DVD's out there (similar to CBT Nuggets) or would I be better attending a bootcamp? Many Thanks

Short term the contract would be ideal, but you need to be thinking long term, in which case the course would be the far better option. As mentioned the course is a limited time offer and will give you better oportunities in the future.

Finish Wednesday then back in from the 28th (My Birthday) until the 30th Dec then finshed until the 3rd Jan...... Peace and quiet.... ahhh bliss!

When you rebuilt the station did you use the same Station name or a different one? Have you performed a health check on the affect stations to see if that cures it. Many be worth check the station ini file to see if it has been deleted or corrupt.

Have to say I love my job too. I have been doing this job since I was 17 (at my old school) and *cough* years later I still love it. No day is the same, new problems to solves etc..... could we say the say if working in a private company?

I need to wipe the drives of over 100 computers as the school I am working at is closing some buildings and moving everything into one building. The old hardware will be offered to other schools in the LA or scrapped but before all that can happen I need to wipe the drives. I dont fancy doing it one by one - so.... anyone know if it can be done via pxe and if so can you point me in the direction of said software etc.... Many thanks

I am having a headache installing Sonar 7. Basically the package works for anyone who has admin access to local machine, but normal student users, the software prompts to be registered. I found the post on the rm communities about adding writeaccess permissions for %AllUsersProfile%\Application Data\Identities\{CDD53BC7-9B4B-40fe-B401-838B3F5166D0} but it is not taken effect. You mean like the lack of support they are offering to the whole of the unison members at the school we are working which is closing? At a meeting arranged by school unison members, the local unison rep more or less said everyone for themselves! get out while you can! HR meetings - unison rep was a waste of time, just sat there, said nothing, wrote nothing.... Unison members at the town hall being made redundant were offered enhanced voluntary redundancy...... Unison members at the school - no such offers! After school unison members complained we managed to get the same offer! NOT the union (or if they had a hand in it, they kept it very very quiet!) In my 23 years of working in a school and being a unison member all that time I have never needed their help until now and they have been about as useful as a chocolate fire-guard.
