Using SCCM 2012 (SP1) on our network and had no major issues for the last 9 months. Noticed a few of our servers didn't have SCEP installed and after investigating appears while the client has been installed it's not working as it should. On the problematic servers it's only showing 6 tabs instead of the usual 7 and is missing most of the actions. The only ones available being "Machine Policy Retrieval" and "User Policy Retrieval". Clients are showing in SCCM Console and as "Active". Servers are in the same boundaries as the servers that do work and logs don't appear to show anything wrong with the set up. Any ideas or tips for trouble shooting this?

Is the time set correctly in the bios?

Morning All, We have a bit locker encrypted laptop that the user has entered in the pin too many times. We can unlock it using the Recovery Password but the next time it restarts we need to put in the recovery password again. I think I'm required to reset the TPM lockout but I need the TPM Owner Password to do this. Any idea where I can find this as we encrypt the laptops as part of a SCCM Task Sequence. The recovery key is stored in AD automatically but no Owner Password.

In the task sequence under the "Apply Device Drivers" section I told it to "limit driver matching to only consider drivers in selected categories". I then selected a driver category I'd created that only contained the drivers needed for that particular computer including the USB ones that worked!

Morning All, I've just set up my first ever test lab with a Server 2012 server and one workstation. I've set up DNS and DHCP and DHCP is dishing out addresses correctly however it isn't registering the DHCP leases in DNS. If I assign the workstation an static IP it shows up just fine. I'm probably doing something really obviously wrong but any ideas?

I had this exact issue. It was down to the fact the standard MS USB drivers didn't work and were too new and I had to force it to use older drivers instead. Literally made a TS specifically for this DELL computer which only allowed the older USB drivers to be installed and worked a treat. When I'm in tomorrow I'll take a butchers.

Good for you. I found the first 5k the hardest barrier to break. I think you'll be surprised once you can run 5k non stop on a regular basis how much easier it gets to just increase that distance. It took me maybe 3 months to get from 0 - 5k and feel comfortable at it but then only an additional two weeks to go from 5k to 10k.

I'm going to rant because I used to love Nintendo as a kid but they've really pissed me off over the years. Here's why... * Lack of any sort of online account or profile. While MS and Sony have been perfecting the XBL and PSN networks Nintendo have been fannying around with friend codes and not providing any sort of real account. This annoys me because it means no friend list and no way to redownload games on other consoles if you lose one. If I spend 100 quid over the year for downloaded games for my Wii or 3DS and then I lose the device then there's no way to recover those games and download them on my replacement console. This happened to me when I lost my 3DS a few years back and I must have lost about 120 quid work of downloaded games. Also their online store is so clunky and slow to use it really puts me off. * Crap controller and stupid gimmicks. Personally felt like they sold their soul with the original Wii and alienated a lot of their fan base by making it too kid friendly and adding the gimmicky controller. They made a quick buck by targeting the casual market like old grannies and mums but at the expense of pushing the long term fans away I felt. Same with the 3DS which just gave me headaches when playing them. So many games I liked the look of but I just found the controls awkward and difficult to use. * Their advertising is shocking as well. I didn't even know the Wii U was a new console until a few months ago. I always thought it was just a new controller for the Wii with a screen built in. Also I assumed the 3DS was just an upgrade to the DS and not a brand new console in itself.

When we moved to Windows 7 we used it as the opportunity to get rid of roaming profiles. It's saved us so many issues over the last few months and speeded up log on times considerably. We don't even give them permission to save to the desktop and instead they are forced to save everything to their home area. I suppose if you really wanted to solve the desktop issue you could just redirect the desktop to a folder in their home area.

As someone earlier mentioned... It appears that you can't install Acrobat on it's own. You also need to have at least one of the other CS6 programs installed otherwise it won't activate. No idea why this is the case but it's frustrating as hell but seem to have fixed it now. Thanks for your help.

Morning All, Hoping someone has some experience deploying Adobe Acrobat Pro. Here are the steps I've taken so far however when I deploy it it doesn't activate and instead runs in trial mode. 1) Downloaded the AAMEE 2) Run the AAMEE and pointed it to my CS6 Installation Media 3) Put in the key and told it I only want to install Adobe Pro 4) Finished it off and it ran successfully. It created the deployment folder and noticed it had created the Adobe Pro msi in the exceptions folder as expected. 5) Pushed out the MSI using the following command: msiexec.exe /i AcroPro.msi EULA_ACCEPT=NO REGISTRATION_SUPPRESS=YES SUITEMODE=1 INSTALLLEVEL=101 AS_DISABLE_LEGACY_COLOR=1 IGNOREAAM=1 TRANSFORMS=en_GB.mst /qn 6) It installs perfectly fine however when I run it it still asks for the activation key! Any ideas?

Just trying to install SIMS Discover and have followed everything in the instructions but getting this very non descript error message whenever I try and do anything in the Administration Utility. Looking through the log files I've come across as few instances of "Could not connect to a Discover redirect database" but unsure how to even start troubleshooting this error. Any ideas?

Nice and easy

Just a quick one, Can anyone explain how easy it is to rename computers that are running the SCCM client. Usually I'd just go to System Properties and change it in there but I'm wondering if changing the computer name will screw up the relationship between the computer and SCCM and what the best practice is for renaming computers that was running the SCCM client. Hope someone knows!

The secondary school I work at is now purely Windows 7 (x64). Everything else was binned. The primary schools are a bit more difficult as a lot of the hardware is so old it just won't be able to run Windows 7. Any new kit coming in goes on Windows 7 and I'm in the process of upgrading everything that will support it to Windows 7 but there are the odd standalone RM machines in classrooms that will probably be left until they break as they aren't on the internet or domain so it's not really an issue if they are still running XP.

I always find the better question to ask is "What do you need them to do" once you know what you want to do then you can find the tool that's best for the job. They've all got positives and negatives so it's just a case of working out what you want to do then finding the best technology to support that. So many times I've seen schools spend 10's of thousands of pounds on technology and then only after they've got them in do they think "ok now what do we do with them" and they end up sitting in a box in the corner of the server room for the next three years!

Adding the old domain on the new DNS server gives me the following error: The Server with this IP is not the authoritative for the required zone. On the new domain DNS I can see that under forward lookup zones I have both the new and old domain. Adding new domain on the old DNS server... well I don't seem to have the option of creating a conditional forwarded... it's Svr2003 for what it's worth. Also on the old DNS I can only see the old domain name under forward lookup zones however it doesn't seem to have anything under it apart from a record for the domain controller.
