Ok... so how do I do this? And am I setting this on the new domain I assume?

YEs I can do this on the old DC and the old SIMS Server. I can add users from the new domain to items on the old. However I can't add users from the old domain to security properties on the new domain.

Ok on the old DC under Domains and Trusts I can see the domain name in the tree on the left... Nothing on the right hand window but I can go into properties and under trusts I see the new domain under Outgoing and Incoming trusts. Trust type = external. Transitive = No for both. When I click the button to validate the trust I get the same error about no logon servers being able to service the logon request.

Interesting... I can ping the IP of the SIMS Server AND the actual name of the server however I can't do an NSLOOKUP on it unless I use the FQDN. I can RDP to the SIMS Server as well using both IP and host name as well.

Not part of the same forest. Completely separate domains. I hadn't ruled out a DNS issue but I don't really know too much about that side of things to trouble shot unfortunately.

Morning guys, Quick one here and hoping it's a nice easy one for you Moving from CC3 to CC4 over at one of our primary schools. Both have a separate domain as apparently this is the "RM way". This was all put in place before I started. The current SIMS Server is on the old CC3 server although we're getting a new one in December that's going to be going on the new CC4 Domain. Trying to get the new CC4 built machines (CC4 Domain) to talk to the old SIMS server (CC3 Domain) and having a few issues. I can RDP to the SIMS server with no issues however if I try and map the S: drive to it or brose to it at all using windows explorer I get an error messages stating "****** is not accessible... There are currently no logon services available to service the logon request." Now I can brose the old CC3 DC and it's shares with no issues just not the old SIMS Server. Are there some security settings I need to change somewhere to be able to browse to it at all? Any advice here would be really appreciated as this is something I've not had to deal with before, Thanks in advance,

I'm unsure why the brand new CC4 Server seems to have almost a TB unallocated space and all the drives have been split into multiple parts. Not seen anything like this before and wondering if this is best practice or not?

Yes it rings a bell actually. Think it came up once when I tested it although I just ignored it and it still ended up working.

Yeah we did this as well although the IT teacher was adamant we try and get it in the system tray which is how I found this.

Yes had to disable that.

Hi Guys, RM got back to me and Similar to Chris above there was a reg fix for the issue. I'll post the exact response from RM in case anyone else has a similar issue in the future... 1) Please can you copy and paste the text below the line, into a blank notepad document, and save it as VolumeIcon.reg. 3. Once the file has been created, create a custom user registry policy, by cloning one of your existing ones. 4. Edit the new policy, and add the VolumeIcon.reg file as a custom setting. 5. Assign the new registry policy to a test user account, and then log them onto a Windows 7 laptop. You should now see the notification icons on the task bar, including the battery, default Windows volume control, and the network icon. Chatting to RM seems like their Volume Control program doesn't work with Windows 7. Their advice was to manually create a shortcut to the SndVol.exe and stick it in a program set although to me that isn't good enough as want to have the volume control down in the system tray. Someone mentioned a registry fix for this? Would you be kind enough to post some more details?

One of the primary schools I've taken over had what I'd consider a strange set up... All teachers have their own laptops which aren't joined to the domain and they basically keep them at home to do work. Then all teaching rooms also have a domain joined laptop hooked up to the projector \ sound \ IWB permanently and these are the ones they use when they come in. Teachers will bring in their work from home on memory sticks to use on the class room computers. To me this confuses me immensely... each teacher basically has two laptops... one for home (non domain joined, they have full access to it, local account etc, no backups) and one for work (domain joined, domain account, computer locked down, my documents on server and backed up). Is this a common thing? It doesn't make much sense to me to basically have to support twice the number of laptops when one laptop would do. The only argument I can see is that it enables support staff to be guarenteed that there will be a machine in a room at all times but it seems like this isn't the best solution to that problem! Just me or is it strange?

Windows 7. I did log on as admin. It let me manually set it to show the icons using the notification settings but it doesn't show to students.

Aye. Green tick for enable... Red tick for disable... Black for not set... I assume lol.

I did find it. However when I disable it it still doesn't show the power icon...

Hey All, Should be a nice easy one for you all! Been asked to enable the Volume and Power icons in the system tray on a load of CC4 laptops. Anyone know how I can do this? I've been though the various reg policies in CC4 Management Console and can't seem to find anything. Hope someone can help!

Evening All, We have about 20 out of about 500 machines that have the same issue where they will build (missing programs sometimes) and join the domain but no device shows up for it in SCCM. Even stranger is they will show up in AD but doing an AD Discovery to add it fails as well even though it picks up other non SCCM devices. Have removed all the "unknown devices" from SCCM and also removed the devices from AD in the hope that works but unfortunately no... same issue. Any ideas?
