We use SCCM to deploy our images here and just have it encrypting the laptops as an extra step in the task sequence. Recovery keys are stored in AD alongside the computer account automatically and we've had no issues whatsoever. If build time is an important factor for you it's worth knowing that you have the option of either encrypting during the OS deployment itself or you can allow it to encrypt in the background after it's built. If you decide to allow it to encrypt in the background once it's built then you can easily knock ~4-6 hours off your build time and the overheads of it encrypting in the background aren't a massive issue as it will tend to only encrypt when the laptop isn't in heavy use.

Morning Guys, We have a strange issue here potentially with our inter-vlan routing. Basically when trying to connect to something on another v-lan the first time it will come back as not being able to find it but subsequent times it will connect fine. The annoying thing is it doesn't seem to do it all the time. Any ideas?

Just did my first run in about 8 months today. Just under 5k and took 32 minutes. Got talked into 10k for Thursday hence me getting back out there. No idea if I'm gonna be able to get back to that level so quickly but last year I went from 5k to 10k in about 5 runs so here's hoping.

We've been using Dolphin SaySo for a few years but it's proved to be unreliable in terms of deploying and activating so we're looking for alternatives. Basically just something that will read out loud the documents on the screen and enable students to control it fairly intuitively. One of Dolphins features is that all you need to do is hover over the text and it will read out the entire sentence. Any suggestions?

You could get Pro Plus for Faculty instead of A3. It's cheaper but like you say still an ongoing cost and I'm not sure if it comes with all the features A3 does. Worth investigating. Someone above pointed out that moving to O365 completely and not taking out any standard EES Office Licensing might be the way to go but not too sure how I feel about that.

Morning All, Either GOOGLE have changed the way they display their links or there's been a Lightspeed update over night but first thing this morning Google Search Result links were being incorrectly blocked and classified under the "security" category. Temporarily unticking the Security category fixes the issue. Trying to get through to LS to get a permanent fix sorted but there phone system appears to be down at the moment which makes me think it might not just be us... Hope this helps if anyone has a similar issue...

Ok good news... I have noticed I can add the Exchange Online Protection by going to "Purchase Services" and it appears on there. Good news. I've got a license and "paid" for it. EOP is showing up in my services however I have no link to access the settings for setting up the inbound and outbound connectors. I'm hoping this is just because it takes a while for the service to become fully active like various other parts of O365. Now my biggest concern is I want to make sure when I eventually change my external MX records to my tenant that the mail goes through EOP and onto my on premise mail server and not delivered into the provisioned mail boxes for users on O365! Does anyone know the process for making sure this happens?

Sorry I probably didn't word it very well! No need for mail migrations etc. All our mail is hosted on site on Exchange 2013. We're looking at this purely from a EOP point of view for spam filtering etc. All staff have primary e-mail addresses ending .org which currently go through RM store and forward. Students have .sch.uk addresses which are going through EOP. If we can't use the existing EOP tenant to filter mail coming from our .org domain due to the domain being in user elsewhere this isn't a massive issue as this will eventually become obsolete over time while we move everyone to .org I suppose now it's a question of how do we add EOP to our existing tenant which has the .org domain assigned to it.

Morning All, Just wondering if anyone has any experience with adding Exchange Online Protection to already existing O365 Tenant. Current Situation * We have two domains. One our old .sch.uk domain which was provided by the authority a long time ago (currently using EOP) * Our new .org domain (currently using RM Store and Forward) We have two tenants... * 1) We signed up for FOPE (now EOP) for the .sch.uk domain a long time ago. This works fine with no issues whatsoever. It was recently moved to EOP and has it's own tenant. The .sch.uk domain is assigned to this tenant. * 2) We signed up for Office 365 a while back using our .org domain which is assigned to this tenant. This doesn't have EOP on it and we don't use it for exchange although Exchange is listed as one of our services available. We purely use it for Office Online and allowing students to download Office 2013. Due to RM being incapable of resolving their recent issue with their Store and Forward being constantly added to spam blacklists we're looking into moving our .org domain to EOP as well. However due to not being the person who set up the original EOP on the other domain and due to the fact the .org domain is already registered to an existing tenant without EOP I'm not sure how to progress. Can I add the .org domain to the existing EOP setup (even though the domain is assigned to our O365 tenant) or can I use the current O365 tenant and add EOP to it? Any ideas how I'd go about this? Bit long winded but hopefully someone can help!

I've never had any issues pushing out WiFi using Apple Configurator. Are the settings being pusher out to the iPad and they just aren't working? Or are they not showing on the iPads at all?

First of all I don't know what the Exchange Online License entitles you to exactly. I can guess! But never used it myself. However for the ProPlus... You need to ask for it from whoever your reseller is that sorts out your licensing agreement. It's free and you just order a bulk lot to cover all your students. Then it will get added to your agreement and if you go on the Microsoft Volume Licensing site under Licenses > Relationship Summary > Agreement > Product Keys you'll find a key for O365 ProPlus Open for Student OSA. Once you've got that key if you go to... https://portal.microsoftonline.com/Commerce/ProductKeyStart.aspx On the right hand side is an option to sign in with your existing O365 Admin account and it will add the licenses to your O365 setup.

From my experience the A2 doesn't allow you to log into the Office iPAD app. We have the ProPlus (aka Student Advantage) licenses for students and it lets them log in fine. Staff with A2 for Faculty doesn't seem to allow them to access the iPAD app. Temporarily giving them ProPlus rectifies this.

Yes this is what they were telling me. Told me the best bet was to get rid of EES Office completely and to move to O365 Subscriptions instead for staff.

Spoke to the guy for about an hour. In the end the result was about how they were trying to move to subscription based for everyone so basically weren't interested in trying to fix the issue. Bit disappointing. In the end I said that if we couldn't get staff using the iPad App for Office we'd be forced to move to Google Docs in which case he said he'd get back to me... Still waiting.

Ding Ding Ding... that time of the year again! - - - Updated - - - How did that go?

Afternoon All, We have DIRSYNC to automatically provision accounts in Office 365. What I'm wondering is what's the easiest way to ACTIVATE and LICENSE these accounts en masse? Doing it manually via the O365 admin site seems like there's no way to do it in large numbers. Also is it possible to automate it at all if a new user is added to O365? I'm not keen on having to manually log into powershell every x days to activate any new students.

We have our Exchange on site and used FOPE as our mail filtering. We recently had our migration from FOPE to the new system although we haven't used our domain on O365 already so ours went without a hitch. I assume your MX records are still set so your mail is still going through the old FOPE? I seem to recall the old system remains up and running for 30 days after your "migration" so you should have more time than you think. When I'm back in tomorrow I'll dig out the new O365 settings that were pre-configured after our migration and let you know them. That should give you an idea of how you need to set it up.

I'm playing with it now but having issues. I can see the VMs when logged in as other users but it's pointing to the files under whichever user created the VM and thus giving me an error about about access being denied which is obviously correct but was assuming it would enable me. Any advice? EDIT- Ok I got it sorted. 1) Actually moved my VM folder to the new shared folder (duh!!!) 2) Had to edit one of the XML files (I forget which one as at home) it to point to the new location of the VM. All sorted now If anyone wants me to do some more detailed guide I'm happy to.

How much space does that take up?!!?

Had this issue before when the default printer has issues and it spent about 60 seconds trying to connect to it before failing. Long shot but might be the issue. Try setting default printer to one of the built in ones.

Morning Guys, Our permissions on our Student Home Areas are a bit of a mess. Only the students have access to them! Does anyone know of a nice easy way to add additional people to the permissions to all the sub-folders while keeping the correct student permissions on the folders intact? I'm assuming this is going to be a Power Shell solution?

We're thinking of having one VM for everyone that resets every time the user logs on by restoring a base snapshot. But like you are having the same issue regarding having the VM accessible for everyone that logs on. I've not followed this instructions but apparently this might help How to Make Multiple Users of a Windows Computer Use the Same Virtual Machine
