Deffo credit card - if something happens and the order is not fulfilled - you will be protected in law if you use a credit card directly - if you order indirectly via Paypal - you will have less protection - as the credit cards will have fulfilled their part of the deal if Paypal is paid, whether you get the items or not - and then you are into Paypal refund hell - and I can tell you from personal experience - its not somewhere you want to be...:mad:

I'd chat to his neighbours - see if everyone in that area is having problems - if not - ask who installed their aerial and get them in to align and boost his.

Here's another tip - don't buy a second hand electric shower and plumb it in yourself - then take a shower without testing it - teacher here did it last week - and found it a "shocking" experience (literally) - still twitching from the after effects and big bump on the head where he hit the loo on his way to the floor...

Are you having the problems when students are in the room? If so - it might be that they are pulling the network cables to try and get round the security settings that you are trying to apply. We are having a spate of this at the moment. Anyone got a firm fix for this?

Best of luck - we did this in Northants a few years ago - and frankly it was a right old mess - builds to increase the size of the senior and junior schools were late, but the middle schools still closed. The school I'm at more or less doubled in size and the management structures buckled under the load. We also inherited a lot of middle school teachers who found the transition very difficult - and couldn't deal with the big aggressive 16 year olds - all of whom have now left (many who have left teaching completely). To cap it all - the main reason (imho) that it all got pushed through - so that the council could sell off the middle school sites for building - all fell through coz of the credit crunch - so most of them are standing empty & getting vandalised. Happy days - no doubt Tony will have a positive take on this?

Hi Vik I was well impressed with your solution - but SLT vetoed the boxes because they didn't "look nice" and weren't a "branded" name - so we too have loads of Dell front plates being pushed in...*sigh*

I went to service one in a car parts factory - a little 386 that acted as a print server - every internal part was covered with about 1cm black grease and dust - I didn't dare touch it in the end - scared that it would never work again if I tried to clean it.

I would suggest that it depends on what software you want to use - I find thin client is very good for "office" type applications and light internet use - not so good for heavy multimedia with sound etc. Low maintenance at the client end - more skills needed at the server end.

Yes - I'd guess that BSF will continue in name - but will mean in practice that schools will be handed over to private companies/charities/religious groups to be run, but without significant investment - so that nationally agreed payscales for staff can be abandoned - thus "cutting costs".

Yeah - we've just bought a couple of the cheap USB Wasp scanners for the library - they were pretty easy to set up (about £44 from Insight)
