I reckon electronic readers will really take off when they're good enough to read (quality) newspapers on - think how convenient that would be - no more presses, distribution, paper boys, waste papers - just your newspaper delivered immediately - I've tried reading them on the web - OK for short bits - but no fun for reading serious articles...

We pay about £1700 for FMS, but we don't have Sims - so they might've bumped the price up.

Also (and I don't know if its just oyr setup) - delprof onlt seems to delete the "kosher" profiles - lots of ours have multiple profile areas where staff & students have just pulled the power - these never get cleaned up and we had to script it instead.

Yes - the indirect taxes mentioned above are very unfair to the lower paid. Progressive income taxation (if there's confusion) is where the percentage rate paid grows steadily as the rate of pay increases - which was the practice until until about 25 years ago - bad for the rich - better for the bulk of everyone else. I'd agree wholeheartedly about the second point - a friend of mine (self employed) reckomed that if you pay any tax at all - you need a new accountant - an understandable attitude, but allowing this sort of thing to happen is just morally and practically wrong in my humble opinion

We use Citrix here - its a very nice (if not cheap) solution - and gives access to most of what staff would have on their internal desktop.

Call me an old leftie - but I really can't see why we can't have a properly progressive taxation system - so the more you earn, the more you pay (as a percentage).

Hi Not really sure where to ask this - but I've been requested to look around for a system that can do the following: In a classroom or reception area, if there is an emergency of some kind - to press a (on screen) button or type in a code, so that an emergency help request is generated and is sent to various members of staff, so they can give assistance at the site of the emergency. Any one know of a computer based system that can do something like that - I guess an easy to use front end to some sort of SMS texting service would be the thing. Cheers

Thats working lovely now - and sorted the BBC thing too - it was entered as a non authenticated site (because of previous problems with iPlayer I think) - so deleted it there as the Flash version seemed to work fine now - so many thanks for all the help - and this "naughty pupil" whitelist is a bonus.

Cheers Rob - I'll give that a go. Strangely though - we noticed yesterday (by accident) that the Barred users COULD access the BBC site - but no others??? I'll have a go at configuring it up the way you suggest and give things a test.

Hi Just wondered if any SW gurus (hi Tom) had an answer to this - we've started used the "Temporary Ban User" feature - which is nice....but...is there an easy way to simulate this feature to force a user to a "Whitelist" so they can get to our internally hosted VLE, but not to any external sites? Just would be really useful to be able to say a user is banned, except for Moodle, SAM Learning or whatever. Look forward to any suggestions.

Yeah - its the IE enhanced security thing - completely confused me the first time - you have to add your server to the trusted zone - or you can uninstall the whole thing if it annoys too much

Panasonic all the way - they are Which best buys in every category apart from 1 Sony model. My folks have a Panasonic in one room and Samsung in the other and they really wish they'd bought 2 Pannys now - the picture quality when out of the shop environment is just tons better.
